Don't listen to the naysayers, they're all NPCs with no internal monologue. BWP is not merely a found footage gimmick, it's a horror classic with great pacing, a visceral sense of escalation and impending doom, tragically spiraling characters and evocative, mysterious world building. The final scene is phenomenal horror if you are even the sligthest bit empathetic.

Well, the Blair Witch relies on pagan magic rules, so a good way to start would have been destroying those effigies when they found them.

I would've been carving the Algiz elk rune on every tree surrounding our campsite for the night, protecting us from the VVitch.
>>
>>215284826
Hell no, that would have made things even worse. Shit doesn't start hitting the fan until Josh knocks over that pile of rocks.
>>
>>215282291
I bet she has a really nice ass though.
>>
>>215284855
Rock piles are cairns. He knocked over a cairn, initially.

The rock piles the witch uses are part of a binding spell, that was causing them to never leave the forest, and she was doing it at night so she couldn't be discovered.

Destroying the effigies could have been a good move because effigies are not meant for the one being effigied to discover them. It gives the creator power over the individual who is effigied, so they can cast spells on them, so it would've made things harder for the witch to fuck with them.

It also might have angered the witch and made her even more direct and aggressive, but they were doomed by just mindlessly hiking every day to begin with.

If they believed in pagan magic, carving the Algiz rune would have counteracted either the binding stones or the effigies, possibly both. Protection runes are very powerful, which is why witches and sorcerers usually choose non-magic adept targets to fuck with using spells. But again, only if they believed they held power, would it actually work.

>>
>>215282351
If you're interested in watching a group of people legitimately lose their minds with fear, then yes it's really interesting. (coz the actors didn't actually know wtf was going on and their reactions in the film are genuine).
>>
>>215285188
This is incorrect. Stop spreading misinformation.
They were filming a horror film and were told that the crew would fuck with them during the night and that they should try to act naturalistic.
You probably think Eric Andre pranks are completely organic and involve random members of the public.
>>
>>215285188
Well, they knew they were making a documentary, and they were fed directions on what they were supposed to do, but their "lines" are almost non-existent, so almost all of the dialogue is just natural speaking. They weren't completely oblivious.
>>
>>215285280
>they knew they were filming a horror movie
My understanding of it
>>215285292
Is that they were told they were making a documentary under the guise of a student film. They had no idea that the people they encountered and interviewed were plants by the directors, and they had no idea if the Blair Witch was real or not. That's about as far as it goes though. They were also given smaller and smaller rations throughout, and surprised occasionally by the crew in the night unprompted.

It's pretty clear from context that once they continue INTO the woods after Coffin Rock that they get locked in. At the point of Coffin Rock it may have been too late already (really nasty shit happened at Coffin Rock, as she explains), but if they had turned back right then and there they might have gotten out. By that point we're about a quarter of the way into the movie so it makes sense for the drama to ramp up around that point (the oppression begins, confusion and distrust start to set in at first, then some rain...)
>>
>>215285791
It is possible that the rock piles at coffin rock were a binding ritual to keep the spirits of the dead bound to the earth, and they mistook them as graves. Not sure what magic kept them rooted there specifically, but their presence definitely alerted the witch to them. I think knocking over one of the piles is a red herring. What really locked them in was staying the night, giving the witch time to bind them in, since they wake up between those stones again. That's when officially get stuck.

Fair enough, but I don't agree. My take is that the shots right after Coffin Rock are when they get stuck, but they haven't realized it yet. They're just starting to realize that women suck at navigation, but it's actually them being trapped. Would have to re-watch for details but I've always taken that daytime period as "the moment". You could reasponably reply that the witch is strongest at night, which is certainly borne out in the film.
>>
>>215286252
I'm still not even sure if the Witch is acting alone. As it's mentioned early on, there was the guy who killed the kids, Rustin Parr, and then the woman, the Blair Witch, who's feet never touched the ground and was covered in hair.
>>
>>215281819
Literally just more people. There is power in perception itself because perception shapes reality. The more people you have the stronger "consensus reality" you can build vs a fractured one.
>>
>>215282291
She lived long enough to become the witch
>>
>>215286455
It definitely makes it harder for her, since there is a larger amount of people for her to take account of, and be wary of being caught by.

Less-so of consensus reality being a thing, and more-so just too many people to capture and work magic against.

Do you think they fucked during filming?
>>
>>215286436

It was certainly the Witch/Rustin IMO, and maybe some other doomed spirits floating around. The seven cairns clearly refer to Rustin's victims, a number already established early on, and there are shown to be about ten or so stick figures, with one big hairy one (Elly) in the middle of it all. The three discovered cairns plus the above clearly show that the three are being added to the collection. The children who harass the tent at night are also clearly the ghosts of Rustin's victims.

There is also an interesting (a)-symmetry between the two groups of victims. Rustin's MO was supposed to be that he would take the children in pairs and have one stand in the corner while the other was killed, matching the finale of course. But Rustin had an odd number of victims! So the odd kid out may have been a protean first murder, not yet fitting the MO, or perhaps the fourth and final pair had one kid who escaped and got back to the village, but this doens't seem to be the case, as Rustin comes into town himself and calmly states that "he's finished", fessing up himself. In either case, the odd kid out lines up with Josh, another odd kid out.

There's a reason why she works the magic at night, when people are sleeping or when you can't see 20 feet in front of you. Even in a situation with just two people, in broad daylight, staring at each other and having no blind spots she can't make them hallucinate or change the topology of the forest.

>Is immortal
>Can be reborn in new bodies of those trapped in the forest

>Can be reborn in new bodies of those trapped in the forest

>>
>>215289119
In the crappy sequel movie (which the writers of the original DID work on) you see the process of someone becoming a new Blair Witch body, but the outrage over it being the Blair Witch had them later retcon it to a "creature in evolution".

The Blair Witch (Elly Kedward) has spooky long limbs because when she was tried for witchcraft they tortured her by hanging heavy rocks form her limbs while she was tied to a tree. Stretched her out like Gonzo in Muppet Treasure Island, I guess.

>In 2020, she formally changed her name to Rei Hance. Hance stated in a 2021 interview that she was paid a sum of money for the use of her likeness in the sequel, but that it had followed eight years of "constant failure" in her life, and so she "took that money and just drove around North America, getting shitfaced for about two years, and hoping I would die. Like I did not want to be alive anymore." She subsequently relocated to Freedom, Maine, and became sober.

That's not a normal behaviour. And she obviously doesn't have kids, which kind of proves how crazy she is since no one desided to marry her.

How can some people look like this when they're 50 but then you get Salma Hayek or Liz Hurley who haven't aged since their 30s?
>>
>>215281819
Box the shit out of her
>>
>>215292121
She probably got driven crazy by everyone telling her what her motivation was, THAT was her motivation!

I assume this because if I knew her IRL I'd literally drive her crazy telling her about her motivation, because I can't help being a dick, and THAT'S my motivation!
>>
But, the movie was the first viral marketing campaign. They really did have a fake police commercial on the radio talking about the missing three and the Blair witch. Back in that day, it felt real and you actually thought that it happened. It was actually pretty convincing. I remember seeing it for the first time at a friend's house, came home and was so freaked out I slept on my parents floor lmao

That's really strange. I read about it before. They still dont know what the cause was, they said it was due to public hysteria but even that doesn't really explain it.
>>
>>215286628
This is literally why you dont fuck with anything that looks like an altar in the woods. Touch it, destroy it, bad shit is going to happen. Even if you believe in that sort of thing, people do, but I've always been skeptical about any form of witchcraft. Just leave it the fuck alone.
>>
>>215295773
Ergot poisoning doesn't seem too far-fetched.
>>
>>215288199
>the witch herself
If I saw that after me in the woods, or really anywhere else id probably shit my pants and die.
>>
>>215286167
What about the paranormal stuff? It kind of fucks you your theory when you dont adress that. And having a speaker playing the sounds of kids is pretty stupid.

I love when women wear overalls with a tiny t shirt underneath. The straps press down and show off their soft tits and hard nipples poking out

To Americans in rural parts of the country, do you have a lot of these urban legends going on in your wooded areas? About weird witches or mountainfolk?
>>

I sometimes hear owls in the woods late at night. They make creepy sounds. It will freak you out if you're not familiar with owl sounds.
>>
>>215296754
Screech owls, foxes, etc. They all make fucked up sounds. A fox sounds like someone screaming.

NTA, but thank you, anon. I have your post saved now and if I ever have to deal with one of these PMS cranky bitches, I'll consult it to escape their fangs of the bitch. Do you think it could hinder me from accessing my smartphone? Does these spells affect electronic devices?

Not up where I live. Usually the explanation for anything that goes bump in the night in the forests up here is cougars. Their call sounds like a woman screaming, so the go-to advice if you're in the forest and hear someone screaming is to run the fuck away.

I love her so much in this. That scene where she's apologizing for bringing them there is legendary. It sucks that she's a fat hippie now.

Most profitable movie ever, to this day. It likely will never be dethroned, at least I don't see it happening.
>>
>>215289165
First, the creators of the original didn't work on it, they just took the check and executive producer credit, I think. Second, in the credits, that thing is named as Blair Witch, so they meant for it to be the actual witch and their backpedalling isn't supported by the movie (which is a giant piece of shit)
>>
>>215281819
Do a 360 and walk away unironically
>>
>>215292560
All the cast members got screwed out of their residuals big time. The movie made a gazillion dollars and all they got was a small independent movie paycheck, plus some money from the magazines, photoshoots, talk show appearances, etc. They went from complete nobodies to planetary stars on the cover of Time magazine and back to being nobodies in a short span of time. She just didn't take it well or couldn't adjust, probably went through a severe depression. Everyone's different. Josh went on to have a successful acting career and Mike went into a different line of work, showing up in movies here and there (I remember him in Altered).

Most of the dialogue was just the actors improvising, it's why the film feels so natural, so the woman acted like a woman.
