How far up your own ass does one have to be to make a film like this?
>>
>>215283467
Whooosh!
>>
>>215283467
>I can't into kino and I'm mad about it
Okay, but who asked?

How far up your own ass do you have to be to not find this movie hilarious
>dragging the body behind the truck
>I need HOLLOW POINT bullets, these were supposed to be HOLLOW POINTS
>>
>>215283622
That house violates building regulations.
>>
tits :)

This film is LITERALLY more kino than 99% of Hollywood slop. You think the director of something like Tron: Ares wasn't uo his own ass making that movie?
>>
a big problem with western flicks, is they can use "classical" / biblical imagery as an inherent shield against criticism
>>
It's a pretty good film and mostly Von Trier self criticism.
>>
>>215283467
this movie was supposed to be funny right?
>>
>>215285507
Yes.
>>
>>215283467
it's called Kino you wouldn't get it
>>
movie is kino for the descent into Hell alone
>>
It is really far up your ass, because it reads as performative
They didn't even had the vision to actually put people in the water, it's just photoshoped there, the struggle doesn't read as real
>>
>>215283467
How does it compare to Mother!
>>
>>215283616
I never thought I'd laugh at a dead child but here we are, thanks Lars
>>
>>215283467
i always felt this moovie ripped off the prison escape scene from batman. trying to dress it up with virgil to pretend its not stolen. shameful.
>>
The men mowing the field, and the ringing of hell stuck with me
>>
>>215283467
>Y-YOU'RE P-P-PRETENTIOUS!
>Y-Y-YOU'RE UP YOUR OWN ASS!
>Y-YOU T-T-THINK YOU'RE B-B-B-BETTER THAN ME!
What other things do insecure people say?
>>
>>215285278
This. Behind every "non-pretentious" film is an idiot who believes he's a genius.
>>
>>215283467
>How far up your own ass does one have to be to make a film like this?
We're not at liberty to discuss that.. that's considered classified information.

However, I think this is safe
to say that... it's a considerable leap up the ladder.
>>
>>215283467
>LVT
He's just Danish.
>>
lol imagine if his name was jeff instead and when virgil showed up he went
>my name jeff!
lmao just laughing thinking about it haha
>>
if I remember correctly, he also made several movies that were grounded with no cgi based on could-realistically-be-true stories
so he can have a masturbatory movie too
>>
>>215283467
"far up your own ass" means doing something that only you yourself is able to understand or "feel"
this does not at all apply to The House that Jack Built, it's a straightforward and easy to understand movie who only illiterate retards would think is impenetrable
there are self references sure, but even if this is your first Lars Von Trier movie you would still understand it completely, again unless you're an illiterate retard
>>
>>215285467
If you actually watched this litty little flick, you'd know that's not the movie at all
>>
>>215285992
>My name is Hubie Halloween
>>
>>215283467
This movie is disgusting in a tasteless way.
>>
>>215283467
Requires talent and bravado. I like this movie. Also OP is a fag.
>>
>>215287596
Anybody but Uma Thurman
>>
>>215287552
notice how much of the praise hinges on the ending sequence, not the beginning or middle.
>>
>>215283467
The film was kino as fuck.
>>
>>215283467
I liked the concept that the constant screams of a 100 billion people all at ounce just turns into a single whine.
>>
>>215287819
The film is kino from start to finish. Not even in just a memeway. Some parts like the scything and breath of the wind are really evocative,
>>
>>215287819
In context of the rest of it. Larry Trier says it's Hitchcock.
>>
I might be broken but this was just a very watchable comedy for me and didn't feel pretentious, the rest of his films do sound gay though
>>
it has the most hilarious credits needle drop ever
>>
>>215283467
Didn't take the shot out of five.
>>
It’s a lot like The Killing of a Chinese Bookie
>>
>>215288259
Movie instantly went from a 1/10 to an 8/10.
>>
Imagine trying to shit on one of the most uncompromising filmmakers that we still have today. You might not like it, but at least he still makes actual art.
>>
I took a date to see nymphomaniac vol 1 and 2. It was okay.
>>
>>215285507
The rain, Uma's character, the range all done well
>>
>>215283616
>hey you haven't spoke much since you took that pill
>>
>>215288345
Mind numbingly boring with only one good actor to keep the audiences attention?
>>
the movie is funny
>>
It should have been Bruce Campbell
>>
>>215283467
Antichrist was worse. this one was actually hilarious.
>>
>>215288500
I think he got diagnosed with some old people's disease and that impairs him from making new movies.
I think the last thing he did before that was Riget S03 (it was great).
>>
>>215283467
I liked it ( ( )

That movie was awesome despite how grisly and dark a lot of the content was. Moments like in your image were the best parts. The entire ending was AMAZING.
It was a hell of a movie, no pun intended.

>he also made several movies that were grounded with no cgi
anon he was one of the authors of Dogme 95. "no cgi" is a fucking understatement. They thought sets were for fags, and the idea that the actor doesn't have to look like the character as written e.g. dogville.
>>
>>215283583
>can't into

That's so cute! Real insider lingo. And if I don't like it I get called a "newfag".

KYS, lazy piece of shit
>>
>>215285467
Oh, Lars knows he's going to get criticized for his movies. He always does. You're just retarded and picked the wrong movie to drop your stupid theory on.
>>
>>215288500
This is a board full of underage mentally ill brown thirdworlders who only watch capeshit and franchise trash.
>>
>>215285573
Watch the actual scene. Photoshop can't make moving water. It was clearly filmed in a tank. Lars has never been short on vision. I don't know who you're trying to impress with your terrible ideas.
>>
>>215288977
the implication is the imagery gives the movie false-depth.
>>
>>215289011
>it insists upon itself
maybe you should stick to capeshit and cartoons until you get a little older
>>
>>215288345
Ew. No it isn't. I finally saw that last year and it was lame as shit. It was like a less enjoyable, less coherent Only God Forgives.
More and more each year I resent Ben Gazzara for taking so many off-putting roles and being so off-putting in them. He's just like that Ciarand Hinds fucker.
>>
>>215288712
>>215288019
edgelords of course attracted to this thread.
>>
>>215288950
Dogville at least had lighting. And the most obvious set set of them all.
>>
>>215289011
How could the movie be any more deep? In the end they even go DEEP down. Again, the implication belongs in some other thread about some other movie.

Literally the opposite.
This movie was him realising he was up his own ass for all his previous movies, and making fun of himself for it.
You are a very stupid person and should feel bad about yourself.
>>
>>215283467
I liked the part where he bashed the woman in the face and also the part where he dragged the woman behind his van and it rained and also the part where he yelled at the woman and her nipples got hard.
>>
FAME
>>
>>215288559
>Uma's character
Doesn't the movie start with her having like three opportunities to get out of the car with the serial killer, but she keeps on insisting he give her another ride.
>>
>>215285573
>They didn't even had the vision to actually put people in the water, it's just photoshoped there, the struggle doesn't read as real
>sees a shot that was extremely difficult to capture
>assumes its fake
>>
>>215283467
It's Trier's 8 1/2, a great film.

If you watch his and Matt Dillon's interviews it's clear that Lars has some serial killer instincts deep down, and so he made this film to fully explore what that would be like, including the conclusion.
>>
>>215288977
>Lars knows
Does he know anything anymore? I thought he was put in a home because he is like senile or something.
>>
>>215292241
he has Parkinson's, not Alzheimer's
he is planning most likely his one last film called After which would explore death and his condition but is obviously having trouble starting production because of his state
i saw an interview way before he got diagnosed where he was already shaking like crazy, it probably got much worse now
i think the drugs that help with the symptoms are very expensive, and despite the common misconception even famous filmmakers are rarely super rich, actors usually make more money even, Michael J. Fox once went to an event without meds to show how bad it gets without medication (he is an activist for more affordable Parkinson's medication) and he wasn't just shaking but flailing all over the place, it really gets awful
>>
I liked this film, you're just acting like Peter Griffin right now
>>
Is there any good movie left that doesn't filter /tv/?
What does this board even watch?
>>
This movie tried way too hard to be deep. I still liked it, as a comedy. Runtime could have been cut down by 40 minutes though.
>>
>>215285507
LVT is def taking the piss in a lot of it but it doesn't fully coalesce into something you could call a straight up comedy, which is esp annoying since he's always been pretty open from a cinematic perspective and easier to assess (tho Nymphomaniac really pushes it), now it's like tonal whiplash where you have the Uma Thurman and OCD shenanigans then one of the most sadistic child murder scenes of all time
>>
>>215283467
>Hollyweird's psycho-sexual mass murderer obsession is worthy of contempt, satire even
>Director's in a Cold War with Tarantino aesthetically since forever
>Natual Born Killers
>"Dogville's the best script I've ever read." -- Tarantula
>>
>>215293708
>it's like tonal whiplash where you have the Uma Thurman and OCD shenanigans then one of the most sadistic child murder scenes of all time

We can't clutch pearls when we're simulating Terrifier style abominations for 'entertainment' on an industrial scale. The contrast makes it more funny/absurd, by dint of being that perverse (and finding a way to actually shock us out of it).
>>
>>215293754
I see where you're coming from but it's pretty clear Lars gets just as much a kick out of being reactionary and pushing audiences' buttons as he does any intent about putting the violence into perspective, it taints those moments big time - though I suppose the question then becomes what's an alternative that would be just as impactful the way that you read it
>>
>>215288932
You should be in an asylum, you fucked up troon.
>>
>>215283467
I haven't seen many of von Triers films but I really liked House that jack built.
>>
>>215293801
You are also likely on multiple watch lists for viewing dark web content
>>
>>215292723
as /tv/ spokesman, we watch just that which is fit to consume in this intermission era. See you round the watercooler, watchfag.
>>
>>215283467
Maybe like 6, 7 percent of the way up there.
>>
>>215293846
FAGGOT
>>
>>215283467
it's a great movie you pleb, stick to capeshit
