The lake subsists as a purgatory of dreams because the murders were unsolved. Instead of a hockey mask, the Grabber wears hockey skates. Instead of grabbing you with a claw, he skates circles around you until the thin ice breaks and you fall in. Then he drags you to the bottom. Two of the kids he drowned were blacks who couldn't swim because it was a racist Christian camp. The white owners of the camp who refused to teach them swimming lessons drown at the end with the Grabber. The camp is also located on a Native American burying ground but this is left ambiguous as a spin off or the next sequel
