I watched it last night.
>if you like the grabber, you'll like this cause they listened to fans and had more of him.
>director/producers have a white + latino(a) fetish
>more of gwen
>delves deeper into the paranormal aspect, which fans wanted
also fun fact, this is kinda Scott Derrickson's vision for was doctor strange 2 (nightmare as the villain) before marvel demanded wanda be the main villain and he quit the project.

Reposting from last thread

Watched 3 horror movies in the morning. So here's my brief and pointless thoughts:

>The Jester
Absolute shit. 80% of the movie is crying over their dead dad. Jester stuff was nice, but the effects are bad. It's even poorly shot, although the acting isn't as bad as you'd expect. Skip it.
>The Jester 2
Miles better than the first and can be watched as a standalone. The effects are still bad, but better. Didn't like the Jester removing most of his mask at first, but it grew on me. Still prefer the one from 1 though. I liked the plot and main girl, although she's a 22-year-old playing a 15-year-old. It's not a good movie, but I think it's average and did enough that I'd watch it again. Weird that (MAJOR SPOILERS) they basically kill him off and end a potential series before it gets going.
>R.L. Stine's Pumpkinhead
Oh boy, here we go. This is a 4/10 below average movie. The scarecrow costume is so basic that you immediately think "that's just a guy in a cheap outfit". If herky jerky movements are scary to you, then I guess it'll work for you. Everything about this movie is pretty bland and boring. The only reason to watch it for how it ends. That just seems a bit unnecessary for a tween horror movie. Other than that, watch any of the other superior tween/teen horror movies that are out there.

>>215322039
Cemetary Man is a masterpiece, Spider Baby and Blood For Dracula are really great.
>>
>>215322050
>>director/producers have a white + latino(a) fetish
its the most common interracial parring, especially in places with high latino diaspora which includes Denver.

I can personally vouch for Spider Baby, Theatre of Blood (Vincent kino) and Cemeteray Man.

I just saw Picnic at Hanging Rock. I’ve seen this movie classified not just as horror, but COSMIC horror. But it turns out they’re just a bunch of Australians. And mostly dykes.
Actually kind of reminded me of Weapons. Except for the dykes.

What are some horror movies that cause you physical pain knowing anyone is enjoying? For me is Black Phone, the worst horror movie of all time, how did it become the most popular horror franchise of this generation...
>>
>>215322976
It's a great movie but no one should really classify it as horror. I guess you could say the mountain is reminiscent of Hill House from the Shirley Jackson novel. David Lynch was also inspired by Picnic at Hanging Rock for Twin Peaks. The movies has its creepy moments but you could find other stuff. I liked the soundtrack.
>>
>>215323568
It's still Hereditary for me.
Even when I greatly dislike something I can still see why other people like it. Not so with Hereditary. People are still talking about it 7 years later and it's really baffling to me.
>>
>>215323679
Agreed with Hereditary. It's a total piece of shit even if you "get it." I think casuals just got really affected by what happens to the little girl in the first half and thought it was epic.
>>
>>215322976
if i remember correctly, the editors of the book the movie is based on removed the last chapter in which it turned out the girls were abducted by time-warping aliens or some shit

Watched Late Night with the Devil. The premise sounded fantastic. The movie was dreadful. Seriously, what the fuck is the matter with these modern writers? Why does everything have to EXPLODE in an over the top way? It's not scary, it's retarded. Is it done just to impress literal mouth-breathers and third worlders?

Regan making the nightstand slide open in the Exorcist is way more disturbing than these ghosts with literal superpowers. Fuck outta here with this shit.
>>
I did not like The Tingler. It's not bad, just kind of drags too much of the time.

>Is there a single 21st century remake that's actually decent
I have enjoyed the following:
My Bloody Valentine 3D
Fright Night
Sorority Row
Friday the 13th
House of Wax
House on Haunted Hill

Of those though, I would say that only Fright Night is a genuinely great horror film. The rest are all good enough and entertaining but Fright Night is the only one I think I would rewatch. Makes a great date movie.

>>
>>215327882
(No, it's not. And it's the worst one in the Universal Drac series. I watched and reviewed them all.)
Dracula’s Daughter (1936) – A weak Worth a Watch for historical interest only, this snoozefest out-nods even the original Dracula’s soporific second half. With only a fog bank or two to show it’s *supposed* to be a horror film, the supposed “Daughter” never shows fangs or transforms into anything -- all we have to go on that she’s a vampire is her insistence. She is not even shown stooping over a neck! (She hypnotizes her prey with a magic ring, which is cool.) With a serious dearth of gothic backdrops, this sequel only has several moments of Carfax Abbey in the intro and a minute or two of Drac’s castle at the end to amplify the creep factor. The balance of the movie is spent puttering around generic drawing rooms and listening to Van Helsing’s snide psychiatrist friend Jeffrey, who is SUPPOSED to be getting him off the hook for murder (of Dracula and Renfield), but is more interested in lame parties -- one of which Drac’s Daughter just *happens* to attend. Basically, the titular vamp doesn’t *want* to be a blood-sucker anymore; hoping to be rid of the family curse, she steals Dracula’s staked body (a wax replica of Bela Lugosi) from the police station, burns it, and throws a cross at it. She has her own henchman: a dour, flesh-faced man who sniffs around hoping that she’ll make good on her promise to TURN him. That being the case . . . it’s a completely moronic that he’s helping her in her attempts to *purge* her Dracness at the start of the movie. But this is a Universal monster movie, and script-writing is usually not a primary concern. (*Entertainment* doesn’t seem to be a concern with this one, either.)
>>
>>215327882
Yes and no, you can unironically view the movie as both progressive and conservative because while it shows a female/female relationship on the big screen as far back as the '30s, it also depicts her attraction towards the same sex as a curse that she isn't proud of.
>>
>>215327945

The director, James Whale was gay, but none of the many screenwriters involved in it were.
People are just desperate to read something into it they'll go cross-eyed trying to do so. If Whale had been black member, they'd be talking about how the exact same film was acktually about miscegenation.

No, women are just food and she doesn't care about them. (It would be *more* controversial so show her feeding on man back then.) She falls in love with Van Helsing's psychiatrist friend, and gets all stupid over him.

Speaking of Frankenstein, I watched the Hammer version with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. It was good vibes and Cushing was obviously great as the doc but I don't think that Lee quite had the material to shine like he did with Dracula.

I would overall rank it below the OG Franky with Karloff. Kino ending shot, though.

I hate this fucking "le lets take this expired copyright and turn it into a horror slasher haha!" thing, but that's not really an unpopular take I think many share that sentiment, I guess legacy requels are getting tiring too, id rather just see straight reboots preferably if they wanna dust off an old ip.

The only horror I watch these days is found footage J-horror. I recently discovered the first ever one from 1988 and it is worth a watch for sure if not just for the novelty of it. Rewatched the first one yesterday actually. The cast is mostly fine, music is good, the mask is good but for the most part it misses the mark. Its too Rob Zombie - edgy for the sake of it. Does not even compare to the original. RZ Halloween II may be the worst movie in the franchise, its barely Halloween and mostly nonsensical. That being said, Green's stuff sucks too. I remember not liking even the 2018 movie.
>>
>>215328617
Scout and Danielle were good as Laurie and Annie, McDowell was also a good Loomis but the movies suck ass. May be better than Green's tho
>>
>>215328617
Just in regards to RZ first one, they're similar - in that they focus on Michael being a gigantic raging brute which is a good choice. Somehow Zombie's one is the less stupid one plotwise. Green writes fanfic and just paves over plotholes. Zombie writes smut.

Just finished. Really wtf premise but very half-baked movie. Failing sculptor rents an apartment and discovers a talking hole in his wall that spits out little flesh balls that if he incorporates into his art, makes people horny and buy his art. Of course the hole eventually starts wanting him to fuck it, and things get complicated. Makes little sense and doesn't really go anywhere. Bad acting and not much style. Has an og Little Shop of Horrors or Motivational Growth vibe, if anyone's seen that. Still glad I saw it.

So I'm watching Scream tonight for the first time (when I was in high school back in 1998, I thought I was too cool for anything so hip and current). Tomorrow, thinkin' about Bone Yard, Septic Man, and maybe something else.

This year has been mostly Worth a Watches of various grades, a few Excellents. No Hot Garbages or Good Job! Not Worth Watchings (reserved for artsy films too tangled and plodding to enjoy. Hell, I even watched my first Jean Rollin tittypire film and it was pretty decent. I've got Together and and Wolf Man downloaded. Needed some good new body horror, and The Substance last year was amazing.
