Also the montage with the wife isn't about her being manipulative, Paradise Falls was Carl's idea to make it so she didn't spend the rest of her life lamenting the loss, and similarly her message was to tell Carl that he didn't have to spend the rest of his life regretting she wasn't there. It's just that he ironically spent years not being able to keep going through the remainder of the album and missed that message entirely.
