Why can't the 21st century produce horror icons such as Jason, Freddy, Michael, Ghost Face, Pinhead, etc. ??? All existing horror icons are from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

And then you have all the serial killer tv shows like Dexter and Hannibal. You're just being disingenuous.

How tho? Nobody knows him outside of reddit
>>

I find it interesting these characters can sell merchandise even when they don't have a new movie for over 10-20 years
>>
>>215351244
Nope. meme at best. Icons are characters people watch movies to see more of. The only reason people watch terrifier is for the gore porn. Art is barely a character.

Jigsaw for movies but most post 2000s horror icons are video game stuff or creepypasta stuff now ala Freddy Fazbear or Slenderman.

A better question, why can't 20s/30s horror icons from Universal Monsters era be brought back to success in the 21st century?

>>215351590
Probably because the Slenderman story is now tied to a weird attempted murder of two middle schoolers trying to kill their friend for Slenderman and I suppose from Hollywood’s perspective it’s not worth the trouble. I remember Marble Hornets was cool but that was over a decade ago
>>
The Ring girl is pretty iconic. Billy the puppet from Saw as well.
>>
JigC Baskin band

Art the Clown and The Grabber(yes, that's his name) from Black Phone are the modern day horror icons
>>
>>215352480
>The Grabber
Fuck off just because Universal or whatever is shilling this shit everywhere from Fortnite to Fanta does NOT mean the GronkleBonker is iconic. It’s soulless. I refuse to believe any of that

Lol
>>

the grabber isn't there yet but the last movie set him up pretty well as a freddy replacement

jigsaw 1 was released in 04, pennywise is from 1990, and patrick bateman isn't exactly the definition of a horror icon; more a psychological thriller with horror elements.

i do think the closest thing we ever got was the IT remaster but again, it was a remaster.

had there been a film with the same hype and a different character and plot (AKA OP's REQUEST), yes, you'd have an icon on your hands.

but that we don't.
and we won't.

horror is mostly seen as an easy crash grab, unfortunately.

horror is something that demands care and respect. something these movie producers could care less for nowadays.

all comes down to money, who would've thought? you can kiss new IP's goodbye.

>>
>>215352033
And the Friday the 13th movies aren't? Basically all horror is slop.
>>
>>215351134
In order from best to worst (IMHO):
1. Jason
2. Freddy
3. Micheal
4. Leatherface
5. Jigsaw
6. Pinhead
7. Chucky
8. Scream
>>
>>215351134
because the world is dying dumbass.
all media is stagnating.

"art the clown!"
so original, just gore for the sake of it.
seen worst in the 80s.
>>
>>215352656
Freddy’s all around the perfect horror villain. His design and glove are iconic, Englund did an amazing job, so I always thought the pedophile thing felt tacked on. It never really added to his character
>>
Art the Clown isn't great but he works as the demonic adversary to the Job/Michael/Christlike Sienna Shaw. If Leone can stick the landing and get even more biblical I will rate the series highly despite Art being a lot weaker than other icons.

Three Finger's an icon by now. Then, definitely the Creeper and Mick Taylor. Maybe the Collector could be seen as an icon too, if only his movies were more widely known.

Those movies came out when franchise slop was the peak. People are more interested in a different kind of horror nowadays, no one cares about slashers anymore, it's a dead genre. People want supernatural stuff or deeper things that explore the emotions.

The Strangers are much bigger icons than that weak motherfucker. His movie was lame too
>>
>>215351623
Because retarded postmodern writers keep trying to turn all of them into tragic antiheroes
>>
>>215351643
It came out in 2018, it's PG-13 and complete and utter dogshit
>>
>>215354939

I dunno, maybe Dracula and the Wolfman you could do that with and pull it off
>>
>>215355039
They only did those because werewolves and vampires were slight exaggerations of jews.
>>
>>215354155
>seen worse in the 80s
Lol yeah ok. The only thing that comes close is The Thing and that’s not even a slasher
I haven’t seen anything worse than this.

Leprechaun sucks Brad Dourif didn’t even want to do a Chucky vs Leprechaun because he thought they were lame
>>
>>215351134
The horrors of the 21st century can't really be encapsulated in a "fun villain".
>>
>>215354760
This anon’s right. Franchise slop wasn’t a thing until the 80s
>Psycho 2: 1983
>TCM 2: 1986
>Halloween 2: 1981
>Superman 2: 1980

>>

Yeah, it was better that they didn't commit to it in the original. What a shame that the remake was so bad it killed the entire franchise.
>>
>>215351623
>dark universe movie about capturing and examining monsters - fail
>dark universe park, which btw uses 100% same concept of victoria capturing all monsters to experiment on them - is successful

can someone explain that?
>>
>>215355719
Honestly, if it were me I'd make him a victim of a witch hunt by parents who thought he was a pedo and that's why he becomes a vengeful spirit.
>>
>>215355968
I thought that was the original plot, but then I looked it up. It makes more sense that way since he'd be haunting their children as revenge.
