>cultural relevance disappeared after the first movie.
>movie sequel after 20 years
>half of the cast is almost one foot into their grave or replaced

>2D animated movie based on adult cartoon
>post Fox Disney buyout.
This is either going to be a recipe for disaster at the box office and kill The Simpsons for good. Or it will give The Simpsons another 30 years of being on the air, revitalizing 2D animation, as well as adult animation.
FOX has too much faith in this.

bro marges voice will be gurgling noises by that point, let them go, free them from this torment.

The IP has worldwide recognition, all they have to do is write a decent script, it's really not that hard to make money off this shit why wouldn't they do it.

Does gen alpha even know what the simpsons is?
>>
>>215351715
I wouldn't be surprised if they've seen Homer retreating into the bushes and things like that. It may not be relevant or respected enough that people actually want to watch it nowadays, but I don't think it's the kind of thing you have to have been there for to be aware of its existence. Futurama would be more like that.
>>
They better nuke the town at the end of the movie so all it's finally over

The Simpsons has always been a normalniglet show. ‘Spiderpig’ was the normalniglet meme of the year back in ‘007.

anyone else think its weird lisa is an 8 year old and her iconic look is a tube top knee high dress

In the same way I grew up knowing about Gilligan's Island, the original 60's Batman, Peanuts, Garfield, and other old shows and IPs, young kids today will probably have seen or come across the simpsons one time or another.

They haven't been able to do that since Bill Clinton was in office.

an early 90s thing that's still kind of around, that'd be like whether 15 year old me in 1999 would go see a movie about something from 1969. Like thunderbirds. I think they did make a movie of that and yeah i didn't go see that
>>
>>215351470
Simpsons should've ended with the first movie

Apparently the last couple of seasons have improved?

I'm not saying it's GOOD but from the couple of episodes I've seen, I'd say at least it's not complete slop
>>
>>215353986
but then they wouldn't have gotten this opportunity to make a good movie

what do we do if it's actually really good?
It could happen. All they need is one good writer, really.
>>
>>215351470
i had the simpsons movie on dvd and my mom took it away because bart's cock was in it
>>
>>215353962
I did used to watch a lot of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet as a kid though. And old Hana Barbera and Loony Tunes, and sitcoms that were twenty or thirty years old at that point.

That was just television then though. There was only so much new stuff that was even on or interesting. A lot of time was spent watching repeats.
>>
>>215354561
The show has spent two decades being awful. It could happen in the same way that getting struck by lightning could happen.
>>
Simpsons movies are a hard one to crack, because it's a family sitcom about suburbia. How do you up the scale sufficiently, and should you even try to?

Why did they never make an actual Futurama movie? That could have had potential as a thing. Just a big cinematic adventure, with those characters, which is what the show bordered on at times anyway.
Maybe not now, but like 2010 or something.
>>
>>215354630
Right but did you go out and see the movies of them as a teen?
>>
>>215355909
I went to see the Garfield movie when I was a teen.
In fact I may have gone to see both of them.
>>
>>215355884
>up the scale sufficiently
Why? Why do this retarded shit? because a movie has to use an effects budget (?).
You know what movie people liked? Pulp fiction. Just like.. do that, you know
>>
>>215351810
do you do what a spiderpig does? no? didn't think so.
>>
>>215355947
Because there's a bias there. People expect a big story where the town is at stake or something, which is what they did in the first one.
You could write a two hour movie about Bart learning to play the piano, but they're probably not going to do that.
>>
>>215355930
garfield is not that old, and i used to beg for a new garfield book at the store, in probably 1994. not anywhere near as much dead time between
>>
>>215351715
Simpsons is like seasme street in that it is so recognisable every generation will have some exposure to it growing up at some point. Despite the quality of simpsons for the last two decades people in this thread are dreaming if they think it won't still make a fuck load of money, it's not some niche thing for gen xers, everyone watched it growing up
>>
>>215355992
Garfield has been running since the 70's. That was at least 30 years old by the time the movies came out.
>>
>>215355991
>people expect
For one thing that's retarded people who post on r*ddit, mike st*klasa etc.
More importantly, people don't decide/know what's good for them. Did the people in 1990 say "we want a show about a rabbit family redrawn as ugly yellow humans"? no.
People who are talented make something and then the audience goes "oh... !" because they wouldn't have though of that and how it's good, that's the whole idea
>>
>>215356018
we're not talking about when something's run started, but when it ended in the public mind. I'm saying that as a kid I loved Garfield in mid 90s.
>>
>>215356045
Okay, so what would you do as a Simpsons movie plot?
Personally I'd probably delve into the past, and do something across several generations. Maybe something with Jebadiah Springfield, something with Abe and Burns as young men, something with Marge and Homer in the 70's, and something focusing on Bart and Lisa in the current day, with some plot thread holding it all together.

>>215356045

AI can basically replace them lol

>2D animated movie based on adult cartoon
Let's be real, here. It's probably going to be 3D animated like the Spongebob movie sequels.
>>
>>215351470
It could have been interesting if they made the 2nd movie the grand finale for Simpsons as a whole, and ended the show shortly before it came out.
It would attract audiences who stopped watching a long time ago but are intrigued by
>wow, it's finally ending, I wonder how they'll pull it off
BUT they're not doing that, the show is already renewed for more seasons beyond it
>>
>>215356781
We've already seen 3D Simpsons in various forms, the novelty is gone. It will be 2D and visually consistent with the show, as the first movie was.
>>
>>215356952
>It will be 2D and visually consistent with the show, as the first movie was.
I seriously doubt this. There's no money or craft put into the animation anymore. They aren't capable of making something that looks like peoples' idea of what the show should look like. If a trailer looks like what the show actually looks like now, people will be stunned that it's a theatrical production and not some kind of web short.
They will 100% outsource the animation, and it'll go to a 3D CGI studio so there's no expectations to be met. It'll be marketed as a stylistic reinterpretation.
>>
>>215351470
The movie will be their way to either end the show (unlikely) or shake it up with some big changes like a timeskip, they wouldn't bother otherwise
>>
>>215351470
Holy shit it's actually real, and it was announced a month ago. The Simpsons has really lost all cultural relevance if they can announce another movie and nobody even hears about it.
>>
>>215354561
>All they need is one good writer, really.
the first movie was written by 5 of the show's best
>>
>>215357036
>They aren't capable of making something that looks like
You don't know who will be doing the animating and how capable they are or not.
Also forgetting that the 2007 movie had a $75 million budget (the show is now being produced for more like $4 million per episode) and that it did indeed use 3D animation for some shots, but in a way that still matched the 2D style and characters.
If it was going to be constrained in all the same ways the show is now, then they wouldn't be making another movie at all

Is AI based or cringe for this pitch

Title: The Simpsons Movie 2: Rise of the Streamers

Plot Summary:

Springfield is hooked on streaming. Homer’s binge-watching Doomsday Train while avoiding Marge, Bart’s pranking for clout, and Lisa’s trying to warn the world. She uncovers StreamVerse, a global tech giant that wants to own people’s minds by turning them into content-consuming zombies.

Telon Busk, StreamVerse’s CEO (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya), has a terrifying plan: make everyone’s life an endless, algorithmic stream where privacy, thought, and identity are controlled. The Simpson family gets involved when Marge is offered an influencer deal by StreamVerse, and Homer, loving the perks, joins in. But soon, they realize StreamVerse is manipulating everyone’s lives — and worse, it’s helping spread misinformation, toxic politics, and creating a world where Donald Trump’s digital clones are everywhere.

As they uncover the truth, Homer becomes a reluctant internet hero, and Lisa teams up with Sideshow Bob, now a “white-hat hacker,” to expose StreamVerse’s plans. Bart, battling his own social media addiction, helps hack into the system.

They go head-to-head with Void in a futuristic battle of tech, where Homer wins by doing the most unpredictable thing possible: being himself.

The showdown ends with Void’s collapse as the Simpsons reveal StreamVerse’s global data-mining scam. In the end, Joe Biden gives a heartfelt speech about the importance of real connection, while the Simpsons realize it’s time to put the phones down (occasionally). They leave the internet world behind… except Homer, who’s already checking out a new app for pizza delivery.

The Simpsons 2 is a fast-paced, satirical look at today’s world of tech addiction, fake news, and the illusion of control. It’s cringe, chaotic, and definitely relevant.

Post-credit scene: Trump’s clone runs for president again.

well, at least AI isn't writing better than humans yet.

They should either use the movie as a final hurrah for the existing voice cast or as an introduction to a new voice cast.

>>215351470
You're joking lmao they're not making another fucking movie, unless this is to send Julie Kavner off lol just lol

The biggest problem for the Simpsons. Kudo's for Julia for doing the voice for so long. I wouldn't care if they replaced her at this point.

You're not wrong that it's weird but that's also how it is right now. Pop culture has been frozen in time for 20 years. Nothing new is allowed to happen and nothing "established" is allowed to die.

The Simpsons really fumbled the back by not making Sneed and Chuck regulars as the MAGA stand-in characters.

I think everyone would've appreciated that.

>It will be 2D and visually consistent with the show, as the first movie was.

The movie was half way between season 19 with digital ink and paint, but with hand drawn animation. And season 20, which went HD and further into digital animation. The movie was the first Fox animation project to use ToonBoom studio. The look of The Simpsons heavily changed when it moved to HD in 2008. The movie still has better looking animation than anything that came before it in terms of overall scope.
