From my perspective, one of the biggest problems with the Republic of India is their refusal to let their society enter the 20th century. In Anno Domini 2025, 40% of Indians still work in agriculture. This isn't some accident either. One of the core components of the Indian national project since independence has been to subsidize farmers to an absurd extent, and regulate the agricultural market so much that it would make 1930s America blush. India refuses to let farmers fail, and by extension, is artificially negating the modern market forces that cause society to modernize.
