why did moviegoers and critics get filtered, /tv/?
>bro what if, and hear me out here, instead of the monsters being cool or funny, we just gave them all severe mental health problems.
>>215376401and it was peak
10/10 trailer, bad film
>>215376462if you're a millennial manchild
>>215376331>What of a bunch of big hairy weirdos came into your room at night and took you away, goylet?Fuck this movie and this story. Monsters are supposed to be scary and bad, not big gay sissies.
>>215376595confirmed didn't read the book OR watch the movie. max went to the island himself.the monsters also WERE scary and bad. they were volatile and extremely physically powerful. they had no restraint and acted on many of their destructive impulses.
>>215376331it hits too close to home so you have the option of rejecting it entirely outright or actually delving into how it makes you feel.
>>215376763Ok fine you got me I remember that this was all a dream and the kid was asleep and the monsters shows up in his bedroom and were like come on kid come play with us a night.
>>215376809>the kid was asleep and the monsters shows up in his bedroom and were like come on kid come play with us a night.again, not what happened. max invades their island, bluffs that he's the scariest monster, and declares himself king.>>215376764that's a really good point. that might actually be a big part of it
How do you make a good feature length movie about some autistic kid using his imagination as an outlet for his tard rage?
>>215376874you dont make it. it was a ridiculous mistake.
>>215376874>>215376903i'm still waiting to hear what was wrong with it
>>215376401What was there mental health problems?
>>215376987its not a movie. its a story parents can read their kids in 5 minutes so they can spend the rest of the night drinking without feeling guilty
>>215377037>hot airit has all of the required elements of a story. did you watch the movie?
>>215377059its not worthy of a feature length animated film.
>>215377085oh, so you didn't watch the movie! i recommend it.
>>215376331Unironically, because it's a movie without a clear target audience. The premise and protagonist say 'kid movie', but the lack of color and the quiet/introspective way it approaches topics is very adult. It's like putting Honey Bunches of Oats in a Fruity Pebbles box.Don't get me wrong, I love this movie, but I get why it wasn't popular.
>>215377267do you think that also affected the lukewarm critical response?
I'm going to try watching it tonight I remember being so hyped up because they played arcade fire in the trailer. But the movie itself was unironically too mature for me and I walked out midway because it creeped me out. I hope it's good.
Do you need to read the book before watching, would it ruin the movie or make no difference
>>215377416come back and tell us what you think, friend
>>215377438no difference
>>215377362Can't really speak on that as I've never cared what critics have to say about movies.
>>215377491I just finished it, pretty pointless desu, not sure what the fucking point was. I was reading Calvin and Hobbes rant about Aristotle when I was 7, I can't imagine wasting my youth reading something so empty.
>>215377438Retarded and also unwelcome in this thread Sarah
>>215377632you finished in ten minutes?
>>215377632Anon it was a picture book
>>215377632>>215377686oh you meant the book. i thought you meant the movie
>>215376331it's too fucking sad
>>215377697There isn't a picture book
>>215377779what?
>>215377822you heard him
>>215377027the only one that seemed really mentally ill was big fella Carol, who seemed like he was either autistic or rare case of male BPD
>>215377037a little bit too close to home, mate
