Is there a single genuinely frightening horror film that exists?

>>215389349Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
>>215390243How's that scary? Isn't that a good thing?
>>215389349When I was a kid Jeepers Creepers scared the piss out of me. I watched it again last year and I dunno whether it was just residual fear from childhood or what but it still got to me, just a little.
>>215390186This movie was more sad than anything.
Hereditary was the last movie that scare me.
You have to go international if you want to see spooky movies now a days.
>>215389349Movies are not scary after you turn into a teenager. There's nothing frightening about passively watching some images on a screen, knowing you're in no danger, with the lights on, the sound low, hiding behind the couch with your eyes covered.
>>215390787I agree with this, but not in an "Ohhh aren't I cool I'm not scared" way. I'm disappointed that I can't be scared anymore, and I envy those that can be.
>>215389349Indian Immigration 2: The Shartening.
>>215390787So you're saying with the lights on it's less dangerous, and you can just relax and say "Here we are, now entertain us!"?
>>215390787Real tough guy here
Actual answer: lake mungo
psychedelics have made some not-particularly-scary films utterly terrifying (no shit) but it's not something i've enjoyed.
>>215390546For me, the last movie that spooped me was Enter the Void.
>>215389349Yes, its calledREC
>>215389349No, videogames are the only medium actually capable of being truly scary
>>215391376this>>215391221not scary unless you do this >>215391169
>>215390317I watched it for the first time few months back and thought it was lame.Starts off strong but the antagonist is too goofy and it feels like the movie is just straight up missing the third act.
>>215391446That's fair, I think it's probably nostalgia holding it together for me. I love the scene where he's on the cop car in the background, it's shocking to me that the guy who did this also did Jeepers Creepers 3, that film is utter dogshit.
>>215391400this but unironically. theres something about having to actively engage with the horror that amplifies it. no movies really scare me but games scare me easy. not jumpscares, mind you, but creepy atmospheres. theres a part in outer wilds where you have to float your spaceship into a big dark pit of giant anglerfish and it scared the balls off of me
>>215389349Bump since i want a recommendation for this evening
>>215392533As Above So Below
I still thing The Grudge is scary
>>215389349Internet will tell you it's some demon movie from the 70s called "the entity" but it's about a woman getting raped by a demon that follows her around. She tries to fight it but it dabs on her attempts, even with the help of a college paranormal research team.So she decides to let it have its way with her cause it's less trouble.I guess women think it's scary.
tip: if you want to get scared by a movie, watch foreign ones. horror movies are a lot scarier if you can't understand the language imothat being said I don't really have any international recc's and would love to hear some lmao. the last foreign horror movie I watched and really liked was When Evil Lurks, but it didn't scare me that much, it was just well made
>>215392746>>215391376
>>215392801unfortunately I already watched both versions of this movie many years ago, but thank you anon
>>215391618He also raped a bunch of little boys, so... There ya go.
Gerald's Game is the only horror film ive ever seen that scared me
>>215389822Most of these are actually good, plus sinners and 28 years are mediocre but still watchable
>>215392948Yeah, being about to bang Carla Gugino when she's shackled to a bed and having a heart attack and dying before you can even put your dick in her is probably the scariest thing I can think of.
Tetsuo the Iron Man
>>215393077More fun and a bit disturbing rather than scary
>>215393044That's true horror right there.
anons I think movies just stop being scary as you grow older, the horrors of real life pile on to the psyche the older you get until you become desensitized to something that's comparably innocent like a scary movie... it's been many years since I was actually scared while sober unless you count cheap jumpscares. if you want to get scared like you did when you were watching this stuff at 15, I suggest eating an edible beforehand... but then again weed fucking sucks so that's horrible advice too
>>215389349There are some movies with great jumpscares but i can't think of any at the moment
>>215393897>jumpscaresThat's not frightening nor horror at all. Anybody can throw something in your face and make a loud noise. Doesn't mean they achieved anything.
>>215393897Mulholland Drive
horror is cheap trash when you're a cringy teenager looking to score at the local theatre older you get you realise reality is the horror
>>215389349The ending of Black Christmas (1974)
>>215394193All movies are cheap trash, film snobs trying to sound superior for liking one genre over the other is laughableIf you want to be superior start reading books
>>215394292>URRRRRRRRRRRRRGGH >RAAAAAAAAAAAGH
>>215394193Horror is the best Genre
>>215389349I can't get frightened.
Gummo
>>215394371when done right yesunfortunately it almost never is and remains on the level of WWE or some shit in the wider public perception
the blair witch project is the only good horror movie
Mothman Prophecies
Are there any non gag/stealth fetish horror films that incorporate poop or farts in any meaningful way?I don’t consider The Lighthouse to be a horror film.
>>215389349go outside at night and watch on a laptop with headphones. see if you get scared
>>215394728Thats what the normies want tho, cheap slop like Conjuring.
>>215392992>AYOO BLACK PIPO BE MAKIN FUNKY MUSIC N SHEEEIT
I can't imagine watching this for the first time
>>215389822>sinnersIt's basically a cheap ''From Dusk Till Dawn" rip off but with some cringe nigger music-dance scenes
>>215392621Not any scarier than Indiana Jones. To be fair, Temple of Doom is scary
>>215392718Let me shill you this shorthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxQ3PucXg8k
>>215390546The ending of Smile 2022) for me.
>>215395394The endign sucked and wasn't scary at all, you're dumb
May.
>>215395486What a worthless opinion, but you felt the need to chime in anyway. lol loser
>>215392718I always found the on-screen relationship with the mother and the teenage son was weird. Way too touchy. I think the actors were fucking and it accidentally came through in their performances.
>>215389358fpbp
The last movie that I can say did give me genuine dread and stayed with me a while is The Coffee Table. It's a real world scary in that it's a horrible situation to be in. I recommend it.
>>215389349Not if you're a neurotypical adult male
>>215394888That shit must have been truly wild
>>215394888What is this?
Not even example of a frightening horror yet
>>215389349Fire Walk With Me
>>215389349The Strangers genuinely subverted my expectations with its ending the first time I saw it and scared me a bit. It did what most horror movies fail to do which is make you forget you're watching a movie. The ending of that movie feels very real and its uncomfortable to watch
The Spookies.
>>215389822Was Roger Ebert right about "Insecure Horror"? >It's almost as if the Horror cannot quite suspend it's own disbelief and cannot take itself seriously until they locate the metaphorical meaning. The "ghosts" are typically figure's from the protagonists past, mentally ill family members or even the protagonist haunting themselves. This has the effect of unearthing the subtext and placing it within the text. In this case, metaphor is used to justify the superstition, which would otherwise be suspect - in order to appease a literal-minded audience. >What's scary about that? Sad, yes. Scary? No. You can always keep in the back of your mind that, this is just a stand-in for something else, something I already know about.
>>215389349The more real life duties I got the less scary horror movies became. You need to be sheltered and carefree to get scared easily
>>215389822So glad Smile isn't on there. All that shit sucks, though.
