Why is this movie so damn comfy??
I don't the understand the fascination with this movie. It was considered a bad movie for the longest time. Why couldn't it have stayed that way?

Polanski is a jewish sociopath so he understand the narcissistic ego well. Johnny Depp isn't James Bond or a superhero, he is the narcissistic dream tempered by reality. He gets to nerd out over old books and use his knowledge to locate rare books for collectors, he travels frequently, he's attractive, intelligent, worldly. The guy who sets himself on fire is egotism gone wrong, he thinks he has been chosen by Satan and that he has figured it all out without any fact checking or attention to detail or healthy skepticism.In the end Satan is a woman and fucks Johnny Depp, Satan chooses him, but he was not even seeking it, and probably didn't even believe it, he was chosen for his wisdom and realism, the content of his soul which he had cultivated through his life, the ultimate compliment.

Everyone dresses up, Corso just drinks, smokes and reads ancient magical texts in sexy European libraries, and his lodging his provided by a billionaire financier. He has a sexy demon body guard protecting him, he's uncovering secret societies.It has the same appeal as James Bond, just with occult mysteries rather than spy thriller shit.

A really comfy and entertaining 1960s caper film. Clearly Polanski couldn't afford bigger set pieces, but think of it as a well-made low-budget Indiana Jones. Despite that, he's a rapist POS.
