>looking all over youtube and forums for SCARY horror movie recs
>even asking chatgpt with my specific tastes in mind
>lake mungo every time
Why is Lake Mungo always mentioned? Absolutely dogshit movie and most definitely not SCARY.
Pains me to say it but fucking Skinamarink was the last movie I watched that I actually felt a little scared while watching.

chatgpt suffers from reddit syndrome

all of their tastes and thoughts accomodate to the reddit hivemind

What has scared the anons most recently?
>>
The first 3 or so Paranormal Activity movies
The original Blair Witch
Sinister
The Conjuring

That's all I can think of that actually got me as an adult, you got any more?

you’ve seen all the “good” horror movies. you will exhaust that genre by the time you’re a teenager and then chase that feeling for the rest of your life if you don’t realize it.

Honestly never gave Paranormal Activity a chance, I'll give it a try tonight. Sinister and Conjuring didn't really get me.
Only other movie as of late that I've watched that freaked me out was The Devils Rejects, never really "scared" me but there were a few scenes that were disturbing enough to count here.
>>
If you want a movie that’s scary and disturbing but not in a jump scare way watch Naked Lunch. Literally the most miserable and feel bad movie I’ve ever seen. The Conjuring was really scary the first time I saw it if you want normie-core. /b/-core watch August Underground’s Mordum

do you guys think horror movies scares are more potent in theaters amplified by the locked in darkness and sound system or does being surrounded by people nullify that for you? works for me but there aren't many effective new ones hitting screens. have better luck with games for real immersive frights, at least for an hour or so til the veil of illusion drops
>>
>>215399549
Skinamarink was impossible for me to watch with ADHD and no I will not waste my meds to watch this
>>
Simply watch any trump rally
>>
>>215399959
Naked Lunch is kino, I don't recall any part of it being scary. Just looked up August Underground Mordum- seems pretty fucked up but not in a scary way, might watch it though cause I'm a sicko
>>
>>215399993
horror games scare the shit out of me lol. Almost every theater experience I have is ruined by some retard talking

Preach, sister!

The Loved Ones isn't a particularly scary movie, but certain parts of this movie stayed with me a lot longer than much more gruesome films
Pretty early on MC gets bleach injected into his voice box and for some reason that moment has stuck with me a long time

It's very slow and pretty much nothing happens, but there's a couple scenes where I was just holding my breath from the tension
>>
that movie with a woman that lost her spouse set in a house with a nearby lake. i barely remember any of it but there was one scene... the scare was so unexpected and well executed it felt like my soul left my body for a moment. i was pissed at the director how frightening he made it. had to pause the fucking movie and take a smoke break. fuck.

The Night House? I've actually seen it recommended a few times while searching.

Rec, Spanish version
>>
>>215399549
Insidious was pretty solid when it came to making you jump.
Rec (the Spanish film) is also solid and it feels like walking through a very good haunted house.
>>215399993
The theater setting definitely makes it better.
Especially if other people are screaming around you, it sucks you into the experience.
>>
>>215400251
God I love that scene and wish more stuff like that was done, especially that well
>>
>>215400958
downloading now, seen it mentioned everywhere over the years. guess it's time to finally watch.

A few that stayed with me were The Babadook(2014), The Witch(2015) especially if going in blind, and in j-horror there's Noroi(2005) as well as Pulse (2001)

YOU WERE SCARED BY SKINAMASTINK? nigga i fell asleep after 40 minutes, that shit sucked. I can tell youre desperate to seem like a snob and high IQ but no closeups of kids toys in the dark is not scary

>>215399549
The answer is always REC, its the best horror movie ever made.
>>
>>215399609
I haven't been scared watching a movie in decades, I miss it. Only media that really scares me now is books and games but I'm too much of a pussy to push through horror games, even that movie-game Immortality was too much.
>>
>>215399673
This movie is even better on a second watch, for my first year in college I only had this and Drunken Master 2 on DVD.
>>
>>215399993
it's better in theaters if no one else is there. When REC came out I had just gotten a suspension, decided to spend an entire day at the movies. REC was at the first 9am showing (they used to have those!), I was the only person in the theater. Best horror movie experience I've had, tied with watching The Shining in my grandmas basement on VHS when I was 8 because my cousin had left it in the VCR after he rewinded it.

Marebito stayed with me for a good while after I saw it, I still think about the underground scenes even years later.

Ending to this was quite scary
>>
>>215403142
I watched it at like 3:00am alone in my apartment with all the lights off so it was extra spooky. But nah it was more just all the silence and darkness leading up to when the kid goes into the parent's room, I thought it was suspenseful. im not saying its a good movie but i was shiverin in me timbers

>>215399549
Check out The Vanishing. But avoid the remake

Just finished watching The Night House. I liked it a lot. Not exactly the scare I wanted but very engaging and creepy. I'm curious though what scene you're remembering?
