Sorry. I don't have many good choices. I want pirate kino so bad though. Check out Black Sails though

>Black Sails
I don't think I even made it through the first episode. It's like someone saw how successful Game of Thrones was so they decided to make a fantasy pirate show with all the gay porn and none of the plot.
>>
>>215403093
Black sails starts off so strong then goes woke and shits its pants so hard. Worth watching the first few seasons I forget when it gets bad.
>>

>I don't think I even made it through the first episode
The first season (and partly season 2) is rough. It was very obvious that Starz wanted another Spartacus and tried to shoehorn in as much sex, tits and foul language as possible. And this was peak GoT-Dicks, Tits and Weineers Extravaganza era when everyone cramed as much nudity into their shows as they could get away with.

It's a hard sell because the show matures alot by the second half of season 2 and season 3 is mostly nautical kino, but that first season is so god damn juvenile it's cringy.

Kinda like Star Trek Next Generation, the first season is mad cheesy and everything looks like cheap, italian B movie.
>>
>>215403626
>season 3
Did you watch past that? Is this a mining for diamonds style show?
>>
>>215403691
I havent watched it since it aired, but I remember that season 3 and 4 became alot more serious, less focus on sex and over the top characters and more focused nautical kino, battles and characters. Like it figured out what kind of show it wanted to be and what the audience wanted to see, a show about piracy, not Guns 'N Pirates: Welcome To Bahamas.
>>
>>215403626
That's indeed a hard sell because I'm not going to start watching S3 with no context, but I distinctly remember abandoning S1 almost immediately. And it's really a pity because it's a genre ripe for more serious exploration (as opposed to "Pirates of the Caribbean"), hopefully with lots of real ships instead of CGI, and opportunities for historical/educational exposition about life at sea.

Its a good movie, but completely divorced from the reality where the captain clearly fucked up then tried to martyr himself for losing his ship by trying to get the somalis to kill him. Then he wrote a book about what a hero he was, and unsuccessfully sued his crew for saying it was all lies.
>>
>>215403805
Right. We have plenty of movies about Ancient Rome. Even historical fiction in that period. But 1400's is an untapped mine. The only other thing we have is Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag and it has the misfortune of being attactched to Ass Creed
>>
>>215403805
You can start with season 2, as far as I remember thats when all the major plotlines really start.
>>
>>215402378
This is the only movie I've seen that gives me the same feel as Master and Kinomander, the Terror doesn't count because it's too cold the whole time
They're keeping the sailing kino from us bros it's been going on for too long

Forgot to mention Heart of the Sea starts with a guy trying to pay an old guy to tell the story, it's the perfect intro to a movie I love that stuff

>you know that story about the gentleman pirate?
>Lets do that make him the most foppish, gay, man child character ever created by someone who isn't Seth Rogan.
Could've been good. Have a high society try to fale it with a band of ruffians. But it was one of these nu-age comedies that's afraid to tell a joke. I stopped watching when they reveal Blackbeard is a woman. Yep. Just like Black Sails. The one thing I liked is the set pieces. This is what I want in an oceanic kino. If it doesn't look like a highschool play of Peter Pan I won't have fun. I want it bright and high contrast.

Master and Commander is like a microcosm of British male society.

its weird how somehow this movie about licking the queens boot over a genuine friendship somehow won /tv/ over.

I guess we lived near him, and my folks bumped into his parents and like, went over to his place a few times, and his parents have a huge life sized poster of kurt russel dressed up in the as the lead of the rocky horror picture show or something in the living room/dining room or something? i wasnt there so i cant fact check this, but i have no idea why my folks would like about this or even know what that movie was unless russels parents told them what it was
>>
>>215401290
the gay guy is unironically the villain of the entire series. its kinda weird how they got away with it

...the original 50's-60's series 'The Buccaneers' on which 'Black Sails,' others are based.

'To the Ends of the Earth' has some great moments.
>>
>>215409073
>'The Buccaneers' on which 'Black Sails,' others are based.

BTW, 'The Buccaneers' is about cardinal virtues and so complete opposite in tone of commie-wokey 'Black Sails' which IMHO goes to hell by Season 2 though some great scenes after that worth the wait.

You get a definite sense comparing the two of what is going wrong culturally and how evil these people are.
>>
>>215401290
Pure kino. The fact they built a real mock frigate for this is just the icing. My fav ep is the disillusioned boomer captain who takes it out on Horatio.

Obviously Das Boot, but, be forewarned, once you watch it you've seen the greatest boatkino ever put to film and everything else will pale in comparison.
