I hate these stupid fucking movies. These are my Star Wars prequels in that they make me sperg out every time they're brought up, and I wish they had never been made because they (almost) actively take away from my enjoyment of the original series.How in the fuck is this in the top 250 highest rated films on Letterboxd? How do people consider this better than End of Evangelion? I legitimately do not understand, I feel like I'm being trolled. All four of these films are capeshit tier.

The ending of Rebuild where Shinji discards Evangelion and decides to grow up is directed at himself, not at the fans. People think it's talking to them because they self insert as Shinji, but Shinji is actually Anno's self insert, and always has been.Also Shin Kamen Rider is a great love letter to classic tokusatsu and one of the most introspective things Anno has made. It's a good film.

The real issue with the Rebuilds are that none of them seem to know what they want to do with the story>1.0 is literally the first anime arc retold>2.0 starts the same but begins to deviate and hint that the whole thing is actually happening after the Third Impact>3.0 is like two half movies slapped together, the first half being similar to 2.0 and the last half just going full retard but you can still see the idea of "the surface level Eva fans want" >4.0 continues being fully retarded but suddenly wants to have a message and try to be deep and also wants to wrap up all of the ridiculous story elements introduced in 3.0, entire ending is just telling the audience we wasted our time and need to grow up (but this isn't a payoff because of how shit the "series" was)I think most people didn't mind the direction 2.0 was going in, it was kind of cool and novel at the time-- a fake-out remake that's really a future timeline. I think people even could have enjoyed the time skip stuff that 3.0 brought in but 4.0 just doesn't even try to continue that.You could watch 4.0 without watching the other 3 and it would still make just as much sense and be as impactful.
The thing about writing with a marker is that it's almost like socially-acceptable graffiti. Then again chinese pictographs can be remade with calligraphy, and still be intelligible.

I think 3+1 was incredible, I actually enjoy all the rebuilds however.
