as things get worse and worse culturally into the future, you will begin to look back on earlier eras with nostalgia. It's not like the past where things actively got better throughout the 20th century, refrigeration was invented, electricity became widely available, plumbing and pressurized clean water became normal in every house. Television and movies became a thing, society completely changed because of this stuff. The amount of changes that happened in the late 19th / throughout the 20th century is massive. Society actually did improve, get better. The quality of media also improved over time, you went from black and white silent films to black and white films to full color films within a few decades and the cameras and technology they shot the films on changed massively too. Now we're culturally stagnant. AI is going to destroy what little culture is left. Social media has caused massive widespread brainrot stupidity and people are slaves to whatever their algorithms are showing them, locked in a bubble of only seeing the information the machines think they want to see. Even though I'm an older Millennial, I can see the appeal of the 2010s now despite that not being my particular era of nostalgia (late 90s / early 2000s is where mine is). Compared to what exists now even just looking at television / movies things were much more interesting, there was more good quality stuff to watch, there was more excitement for what was being produced back then compared to now. Things are shitty and only going to get worse.
