Just saw Bring Her Back. Easily one of the better movies I saw this year, and also the most misogynistic movie that came out of the 2020's (unintentionally)The directing was kind of ass though, a lot of scenes would have been scarier if it was done by someone more competent.
Putting on Dawn 2004. I have seen this many moons ago, but will be able to judge it more accurately against the other zombie films now.

Where do I start with Argento? Is there anything by him that stands on it's own and doesn't have too many recurring motifs?
>>215426014Jason in 3 is a real deranged freak. That scene where his mask comes off and he smirks at Chris when she realizes he's the guy raped her is some psycho shit
>>215426158I hate giallo but I still enjoyed Suspiria. It's quite the experience
oh boy another thread with the same anons posting about Halloween and F13 in eternal recurrence as if the last thread never happened. I'll grab my bingo card, how exciting!
>>215426158Start with Suspiria, Tenebre, and Opera. Then watch Phenomena, Deep Red, and Stendhal Syndrome.
>>215426222Don’t bother with Phenomena
>>215426237Do bother with Phenomena*
you can start Argento anywhere in his post early animal trilogy, pre 00s, middle era works as long as you commit to watching a couple of them to get the full range of detective giallo, spectacle and surrealism
>>215426219You forgot to tell us what you'd like to discuss, anon.
>>215426158The Bird with the Crystal Plummage > Suspiria
>>215426158Only watch Suspiria, Phenomena and Opera. I guess maybe watch Deep Red since it was the first Goblin soundtrack one.
>>215426353Anon asked where to start with Argento, not some contrarian opinion
Do bother with M3GAN
>>215426262Ass to ass
The Goblin soundtrack in Suspiria is jarringly shite. Save for a few moments.Morricone's soundtrack in Crystal Plummage on the other hand is a certified banger. The cinematography and mise-en-scène of both films are simmilar, and masterful.Having said that, and other unmentioned factors, it's easy to recognise the superior film.
>>215426219Ikr. Same dusty ahh movies
>>215426237>Don’t bother with PhenomenaSadly we have to because we can't directly experience the Noumena.
>>215426316Phenomena and Suspiria already
>>215426158Start with Suspiria & Deep Red. Though Bird with the Crystal Plumage & Tenebrae are also acceptable choices.
watched Et Tu 2023fine little minor picture to pass the time about a stage theater director turning into a murderous tyrant because the show must go on. ratings are stupid high from theater fags and festival screening selection bias but it's not bad, just played pretty straight with few surprises. coulda had more fun with it than they did is my biggest critique I guess but its' not really slasher either
>>215425638>Easily one of the better movies I saw this yearHoly fuck was 2025 really such a bad year?
>Suspiria>Phenomena>Halloween>Harper
>>215426481Kino to kino*
Lot of varying answers which is kinda cool. Sounds like Suspiria/Inferno/Phenomena are more strictly horror/supernatural while everything else falls under giallo murder mystery category, so I might start there. I thought about watching The Church since he only co-wrote and produced that one and it looked cool
Here are my final girls recast for Elm St modern remakes
>>215426655Sounds like a blast!
anybody watched any recent horror from Thailand?https://youtu.be/JBYPPNPhuVg?t=95
>>215426678That's pretty accurate. Yeah, I only like the high concept ones that have some supernatural element, Suspiria, Phenomena, Opera (not supernatural but has birds and eye nails), Inferno is meh.
>>215425644Once Paramount or Comcast buy WB and kick James Gunn to the curb, I want him and Zack Snyder to get back together like a DC ex-wives' club, and finally do a remake of Day of the Dead in that style. Or it doesn't even have to be a remake of Day of the Dead, just another story set in that world.
>>215426678Start with Suspiria & then watch one of the more traditional giallo that were recommended. Inferno is a bizarre barely structured fever dream that is very much a love it or hate it movie. Phenomena is closer to a normal giallo, but has a lot of weird supernatural elements mixed in.
>>215426629yeah

why do people hate bring her back? is it because it's a supernatural thriller?
>>215426980Thinking a movie is mediocre != hating it. I don't even think it's that bad, it's just way too over hyped.
>>215426896yeah the performances carried and made it very watchable scene to scene as a story but still - could've given them more to do as a horror film imo.
>>215426980victim of hype
>>215426883For sure. I did an editing thing recently, cutting together the Joe Bob Briggs segments from the recent thing he did on AMC for Freddy vs Jason with the uncensored blu ray FvJ, and in the process of doing that, I became a little smitten with her.

>>215426179I loved how he shows emotion in 2 and 3, like that smirk you mentioned, or even creepier, how excited he gets when he sees Chris in that dream sequence at the end. Well Dawn of the Dead... I feel like cinematically this was largely a decent remake. Plotwise there was a lot of stupid shit though.>black guy goes crazy and decides to have a shootout with grandma>wrong turn cutie decides to drive after the dog for no reason>why were so many zombies congregating around the mall>why the fuck did they leave the mall in the first placeIn the original it feels like there's much better answers for everything the characters do. They leave the mall because of marauders, dwindling numbers and because they have a damn helicopter.
Black Phone was alright but felt a little too safe. Like I don't need a gorefest but I feel like you could've shown at least a little bit of The Grabber killing the other kids.
>>215428190Above average
>>215427422shut up
>>215428190Yes. Also I like how they don't explicitly say he is a homosexual predator, despite him clearly being one. And it looks like they retcon that a bit in 2, based on the trailer.
This lowkey slaps
>>215427131At first I thought it was just ok but I like it more every time I watch it. It would be much improved if it was gorier though.
Times you acted like Daddy's Head?
>>215428448It's actually pretty decent yeah. Even with the weird The Room acting.
>>215428158>In the original it feels like there's much better answers for everything the characters do.true, planning, decision making and adapting is one of the most entertaining aspects of the zombie fantasy and og DotD executes it well. you lose that if the environmental world and characters are too irrational and ill defined.will say Snyders opening scene with the kid scared the piss out of me when I was one
>>215428482>tfw manifestation of grief or whatever
is it really THAT bad
>>215428556It isn’t bad at all. Argento is always good.
Damn this movie is ugly, and I'm not talking about the gore. Also it has that typical 00s shitty editing, the characters including the killer are boring and the ending is shit.
>>215428623>the ending is shitThat's why you need to watch the alternate endinghttps://youtu.be/S3r-s95uTNE
I think that there's a way to do this but make it good. Maybe take it a little more seriously like Gremlins? Maybe stick with the all out comedy tone but write better jokes with the Ghoulies and a more coherent plot? I'm not exactly sure, I just know what this movie did wasn't it. Still found it enjoyable as boner-comedy-with-ghoulies-in-it, though. Some of the boner comedy actually landed for me. It's a bit sad when your Ghoulies movie is brought down by the ghoulies themselves. Comfy film nonetheless. Kevin McCarthy looks like he's having a great time. Smoking hot women in this one as well.
>>215428623It is a perfect film.
>>215428556>>215428578
>>215428656This movie fucking rules. I recommend it all the time because it is just so fucking funny and fun. I love that it acknowledges how retarded the “serious” premise of the first movie is and just goes apeshit with the over the top “prank war” stuff

>>215428656I always found it funny that this is the only one with a bunch of nudity. Makes sense for it being set in a college, just weird for a series to randomly add that for one movie.I guess I could be wrong, I don't remember a thing about 4 but I'm pretty sure it didn't have nudity.
Whatever happened to the Transylvania Twist?
>>215428759Nothing to remember. Ghoulies 3 is the only one worth a damn, and it’s a fun fucking ride
>>215428767Is that like a titty twist but you say “ah ah ah I tweest your neeple”
>>215428736Yeah, it didn't feel like Halloween and this month flew by. I haven't really watched any movies. Years ago I tried to write one (really) short horror story every day (I did like 20ish) and was going to do it again and only wrote 1.
>>215428736nah it felt pretty long this year
>>215428713I'd honestly watch it again just because I found it so fun and cozy. The prank wars plot hardly makes any fuckin' sense, though.>>215428759It's such a PG movie outside of the sex and nudity too. But man did they pick a good time to throw in some nudity.

Just finished the Long Walk. The non-human wins?
>>215428868Ok simp
jungle gooks made an Evil Dead ripoff right down to the outfit and shotgun but it's kinda boring. I mean stuff happens but it's not really stylized enough to be compelling or the writing intriguing, cgi gore is totally weightless and it's constantly assaulting you at 100 with the forced bombastic score. if you watch honestly skip 'muh family' to 30m in after the intro
>>215428796You've peaked my interest, share them

Anon asked in another thread but I fucked off. Between Frankenstein and The Invisible Man, the former is better. Boris Karloff's acting ability genuinely shines in that movie, he adds so much in painting the monster as a truly tragic creature. Huge visual leap to compared to Dracula, those beautiful hand crafted sets. The Invisible Man is a razor sharp close second. This movie was bombastic in a way the others aren't, he's performing super villain acts while cackling. Also the actor who played him was phenomenal. Obvious stage actor background as he tried to act through all the shit on him by being quite animated and talking very distinctly.

Watching Twilight Zone after giving up on most of its imitators. Hot diggity dog is it good. I'm always amazed at how older movies and shows being black and white and about regular people in regular rooms can somehow be grander, and more entertaining than anything with fancy special effects.
>>215429582also acting and scriptwriting was better back then. a lot of people came from the stage so acting was also more bombastic and expressive. the black and white film means you didnt have to have people worrying about color so you could focus on set composition and lighting more. it was just a different era entirely.
>>215429582Older movies worked on the basis that "limitation breeds creativity". The sheer fact that film was so costly forced everyone and everything to be on point. I've always heard good things about the Twilight Zone, will have to give it a shot at some point.

>>215430635I watch it every Halloween night
>>215430129Everyone should watch all three Ginger Snaps movies >>215430207The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is one of the greatest books ever written.

>>215430331>tfw October ends up being somewhat underwhelming because you already watch horror year-round
>>215430331Try Zombies On Broadway as a pallet cleanser
>>215430518Just one time I'd like to see one of those "swarmed by demons" horror movies end with everybody King fu fighting.
>>215430579Part of me thinks it's him taking his Mom's death really hard. Idk. I have a family member that's kind of like that too and I always get the impression he and his Mom were very close. Funny though his daughter is a minister.
>>215430331>>215430762Tis why i only watch horror in october now.
>>215430608The actual story is his fall from grace with doctors. At the beginning of his career you see the Doctor character in nearly every story being almost deified. In The Shining a doctor dedices Danny has the Shining while taking his temperature and tells his parents and they're like: "That's crazy! But I mean.... You're a doctor, so it must be true. Our boy has mind powers!" and likewise in Salems Lot a doctor dedices the town has been invaded by vampires in like five seconds from seeing a guy who's a little woozy and the main characters go: "That's crazy! But you're a doctor, so it must be true. We've got to fight the vampires." being a sickly kid raised by a single mom she probably really instilled a respect for doctors in him. That all changed after his accident when the doctors told him he'd never walk again and after giving up on life he was forced to prove them wrong by his wife basically doing a Misery on him. Starting with Dreamcatcher doctors are almost never mentioned and when they are they're always portrayed in the most negative light possible and like they're idiots that don't know what they're talking about and are often proven wrong.

>>215428482>>215430512Just finished. Watched because of this thread and it's definitely Trauma Horror, mostly people frowning and arguing and it's all stepmom and stepson dealing with grief about the boys dad dying. Slow and serious despite the premise and title. Also /hor/ anons will take issue with the main male character being a black 'un. Not worth your attention.
finally watched Lowlifes. yes the lead Amanda Fix is very cute and she needs to do more horror. I enjoyed it a lot actually, I'm genuinely surprised it didn't go in the direction I thought it would with the daughter. Reminded me of Cold Fish. You could do a double billing with Strange Darling, in fact i'd watch this before that, the two actually flow together quite well.
blud actually got memed into watching lowlifes

Just finished. Finally sat through this after a long time, and not much to it. Part of the Emotionally Troubled Man Wanders Around cinematic universe, directed by Garth Merenghi. Boring honestly.
>>215432044I liked it, mainly for the visuals and it's one film where le trauma horror was actually done well.More importantly, never heard of Garth Marenghi till now, seems funny based on the wikipedia page.
>>215432113My dear friend, if you are a horror fan and haven't watched Garth Marenghi's Dark place yet, you need to rectify that ASAPWhole show's only a out 3 hours, get on that shit

>>215430331I have been watching nothing but horror movies for over 15 years and it’s made me realize that horror might be the worst genre. I can't even sit through a horror movie anymore without feeling like i'm watching a b-movie.
