You copy pasted that from reddit so it's the opposite.
>>
>>215447306
Murder in Malibu and Last Salute are kino I must admit.
>>
>>215447147
the later ones tend to be worse, but there are exceptions
Columbo is one of those shows where you should just watch every episode
start with episode 1 and go from there
you can jump around if you want
>>
>>215447290
Last Salute to commodore is by far the worst imo
its poorly edited and the sound is poorly recorded. its very strange to watch, they must have put teenagers in charge of production for that episode
>>
>>215447306
It's a lazy reply for a lazy thread.
>>
Ive only seen about a dozen, but I liked the one with the guy from Short Circiut and Hackers, another good one had the old guy from Boondock Saints. It's fun watching Columbo and seeing all of these actors when they were just cutting their teeth.

I know him as the guy from Super Mario Bros and The Burning
>>
>"...just one more thing ano-..."
>"No Columbo. I've entertained your nonsense beyond politeness. If you wish to keep passively insinuating I'm involved with this crime you can do so in the presence of my legal counsel."
Done. Columbo defeated.
>>
>>215447605
kek he wore jeet face in Short Circuit.
>>

broken clock is right twice a day. In other words reddit is correct this time

But the fun is when the villain of the month tries to out detective the detective that plays stupid and lets them hang themselves

Im a big fan of Columbo but, honestly? Stayvun clears him, unironically.
>>
>>215449029
He would have confessed before even arriving at the police station, Columbo would have just walked him over to the garbage dumpsters.

Stayvun didnt do it and i think the one eyed detective would sympathize with the incredibly obviously mentally handicapped reading-at-a-fourth-grade-level redneck simpleton Stayvun.

Also seconding Any Old Port In The Storm because the message of the entire show gets across in it. The briliant Dr Loomis is the murderer, and he is his own downfall by loving wine enough tk murder his brother Cask of aMonticelli style, but the message is Columbo knew that story too, and learned just enough about wine to prove he was the killer and in the end enjoy a great glass of wine with him too.
>>
>>215447391
It's at least worth watching if you're a fan, since it's so bizarre.

I watched the John Dog Murder Case episode of Detective Conan earlier and it was kino
Apparently it was based off a Columbo episode.
Man, I used to love watching Columbo with my grandma, eating After Eights, staying up and watching a horror film after.
I remember an episode with Donald Pleasence as a wine aficionado or something, but can't recall if it was particularly great.
>>
>>215447660
this literally happens a couple times in the show, they still get caught
>>
>>215447290
>any old port in a storm that low
>blueprint for murder all the way down in the middle
>last salute tot he commodore not dead last
this list is a travesty
>>
Has anyone here watched Furuhata Ninzaburo? Takes generous amounts of inspiration from Columbo but great nonetheless
https://archive.org/details/FuruhataNinzaburo
>>
>>215447364
The later ones are "worse" but I find them way more fun, 90s columbo episodes are my most rewatched

akina nakamori was in tv shows??
>>
>>215447147
Both of the William Shatner episodes are kino. He basically plays himself as an asshole TV star in the first one. He plays Rush Limbaugh in the second one.
>>
Rockford Files is better
>>
>>215447147
i just started watching this kino
were tvs shows all 70-90 mins back then? its great
just watched an ep with martin sheen as the victim
>>
>>215447147
Just start at the beginning then call it a day once he's ludicrously too old to be a police lieutenant
>>
>>215447147
I don't remember. I saw them all, but my memory is terrible. I was recently watching The X-Files and I couldn't even remember so many stars who appeared in the series.

Kojak is better than this goofy bitch

What's this show about? A detective that acts retarded?
>>
Any Old Port in a Storm is the GOAT
>>
>>215451004
I love the music, especially the chase scenes.
>>
the one where mcgoohan is an army general its really an introduction into probability and empiricism
>>
>>215450756
Hey, i am 15 mins in and it is so far pretty comfy. I already like main character and the way the cast is limited and allows to focus on the dialogues and little details.

if you can only watch one this week, make it this one. You'll love it
>>
>>215450127
nta but blueprint for murder is certified midlumbo while commodore is cringekino.
>>
>>215447618
>>215447700
Just watched this one last week, was really good. I thought the 80s episodes were supposed to suck but Ive really liked the 2 Ive watched so far
>>
>>215450756
Been meaning to check this out. I know a lot of weebshit Ive watched has parodied the intro sequence but I still havent watched any.
>>
>>215447290
>>215454249
I've never watched Columbo, can I literally start with any or should I watch the pilot first?
>>
>>215455412
You can watch any episode, youll understand the character pretty quickly, but some are slower than others so you might want to check out a recommended hit first. My top 3
>Murder by the Book
>An Exercise in Fatality
>Suitable for Framing
>>
>>215454249
I dont remember much of that one other than the scene where the nun thinks hes homeless.
>>
A good way to do it by guest stars, especially recurring ones. If you can't figure out an order to watch them, just look at the ones with actors you already like first.

Robert Culp's episodes are the tits.
Patrick McGoohan's are the shit.
Jack Cassidy's are just a pure pleasure to watch.
Willian Shatner shats up the place something epic in his in the best way.
Leonard Nimoy's episode is especially good on a number of levels, (bonus: Anne Francis).
Donald Pleasence probably tops a lot of people's lists.
Johnny Cash is fucking awesome shit.
Lee Grant is a great evil bitch in a very early episode and her interactions with Columbo are particularly cool, and first time you really see the Columbo character and what he would be I think. Not just another cop/detective.

Also subject matter. Episodes with magician shit where tricks are revealed are great.

It's very easy to find a reason to watch any particular episode, something to hook you in, and the above are a good start.

Even the episodes that aren't the greatest it's fun to see actors you like getting fucked with by Columbo in story, or seeing how they play off Falk as actors.

That was one of the most hilarious scenes in the whole series. Like the whole character of Columbo is set up for years just for that punchline. Joyce Van Patten does a truly lulzworthy job, probably why she got to play a murderer in a later episode. Great episodes, but that scene is the icing on the cake. Truly one of the most remembered moments, along with Falk running out of control downhill.

Also what a fucking contrast that series is to the shit being churned out these days. Really shows what you can do when you put plenty of thought and artistry into every episode/movie. A misfire here and there is to be expected with any body of work, but a constant stream of failure just doesn't need to happen.
>>
>>215447147
I just bought this series on ebay for 10 bucks let's go.
>>
>>215447290
"Now You See Him" is way too low on this list, probably a Top 5 episode
>>
>>215454173
Glad to hear. Episode 2 is even better!

If you need a more reason to watch this episode try JoAnna fucking Cameron.

I'd go full-metal Chris Watts on my wife if I had an adoring secretary with legs like that. Holy shit. Can't blame Van Dyke, for wanting to give her the literal Dick.
>>
So obviously its part of the appeal of the show that we never see her, but if you have to cast Mrs Columbo in an episode in the 70s, who do you give the role to?
>>
>>215454018
The main appeal is that they show the murder in full at the start of the episode, and the rest of the episode is watching the detective mess with the person who he's pretty sure is the killer. There's no mystery, it's just character work.
>>
>>215456369
Kate Mulgrew, apparently
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Columbo
>>
>>215447306
He copied it from this blog https://columbophile.com/episode-rankings/
>>
>>215456387
I heard people say it was shit but I assumed it was shit in a boring way, its fucking insane though.
Episode 1 includes
>multiple attempted rapes
>the implication Columbo is a terrible husband
>Mrs Columbo creating a gas explosion to kill a man
>shrugging off the blood on her hands to immediately tapdance with her daughter.
I dont know what the rest of the series is like but that opener is wild
>>
>>215456408
it's not a good show, it got cancelled early for a reason
>>
>>215455412
You start with episode 1, continuing with episode 2, and following that up with episode 3 and so on and so forth
>>
>>215456082

There's one episode that sticks in my mind where a man kills someone using poisoned cigarettes.

Once the man is dead the killer removes the poisoned cigarette butts in his ashtray and replaces them with other cigarette butts.

How he's found out is that Columbo points out that the cigarette butts the killer left in the ashtray didn't have nicotine stains in the center of the filter like they would if someone had smoked them which the killer didn't, only cutting them and burning the ends to make it look like they had been smoked!!!FACT!!!
>>
>>215456369
You don't. Your imagination does a better job than any actress or casting director could. That's why it works so well. Some kino is just like that - and actually relies on it.

Once you see Columbo's actual wife or actually see him interacting with his wife, you lose something. You start changing your opinion about him, and have an opinion on her and how it reflects on his character, etc. Like is she too hot for him or not enough? Does she even live up to the way he talks about her? Is she too confident, not enough, talkative/quiet, too smart/dumb, etc.

You don't want that, and you certainly don't need it.
>>
>>215447729
Thank you for explaining what you meant by "broken clock is right twice a day" by saying "in other words reddit is correct this time" anon. That was really helpful you stupid faggot
>>
>>215456474
>Once you see Columbo's actual wife or actually see him interacting with his wife, you lose something.
Oh I 100% agree, I am more asking what anons here picture when they think about mrs columbo. Or theres always the option of him lying about having a wife, though a few episodes like the cruise ship one complicate that.
>>
>it's a "the Irish are terrorists" episode
>it's a "the Italian are mafiaso" episode
>>
>>215456537
kek they were until the late 90's. The Irish in boston were arming the IRA in Ireland.

That one episode where Leslie Nielsen and Patrick McGoohan are glowniggers who get caught doing glownigger things
>>
>>215456641
I watched this and was wondering the entire time if it was a Naked Gun spoof. Then Leslie Nielsen just got shot and I went "Oh, it's a real episode".
>>
Suitable for Framing
Exercise in Fatality
Try and Catch Me
A Candidate for Crime
Now You See Him
Negative Reaction

Those are the ones I've watched the most.
>>
There are some duds in the original run but we all agree 90s columbo just ain't the same right?
>>
>>215456663
It is really weird to see him in a serious role but I guess he did it for decades before becoming the king of spoofs
>>
>>215456675
I havent hit the 90s yet, theres some bangers in the 80s though
>>
>>215449703
The wine one is one of my favorites, but then again, I like everything Donald Pleasence is in. Even Halloween 5 and that MST3K episode.
