You have to find movies where it's just the girls experimenting, where it's not their personality. Sadly, a lot of horror aimed at young adults makes being lesbian the core of their character. I'm guessing it's to get young girls to question their sexuality. This scene was done simply to show how Jennifer had changed after being sacrificed.

But its never the cornerstone of their stories. Randy or Jim could easily be replaced with a female character and little changes. I dont think I've ever seen anyone complain about them being gay characters "forced" into a show.

His back story about being kicked out by his parents for being gay actually is important to his characterization and motivation. There was a nice scene when he gets trapped in a freezer that subtly highlighted his fear of being ignored (and referenced an earlier flashback of him being locked out by his family) that I thought was really cool.
