Though if youre an atheist and dont believe we have a soul then you will interpret it as meaningless or fanciful analogy and it will largely go over your head. Which is the disconnect I find when discussing this movie. For example with David Lynch, not saying he is comparable to Jordo just for the sake of analogy, Lynch literally believes in the things he depicts. He uses visual metaphor to express things he actually literally believes in. But most of his audience and fans are atheists so they interpret all his movies as "dreamlike" metaphors for processing emotions and miss the spiritual analogues altogether.
