these were good love stories
Why were the episode adaptations so much inferior to the books, bros?
>>215467812>condense a 90 minute read into a 22 minute episode

don't remember the episode (or any really) but this was the best book
I read over 100+ goosebumps books but the one I always think about is horrorland for some reason, and this one where at the end of the book this kid is moving away from his home but his dog is still back there when he looks (it might have died)

For me? It's The Beast from the East. Honorable mention for Werewolf of Fever Swamp. I preferred Animorphs though. It's funny in 1st grade I was in the "behind" reading class who wasn't doing a very good job and by 4th grade I was a certified smartypants and now as an adult I'm a true 2deep4u faggot when it comes to literature.
>>215467314I just finished the summer camp one where the twist at the end is that they are on an alien planet training to go to earth and I might vaguely remember reading the book and rejecting the ending because it was too surreal to even comprehend. But I could swear there was another summer camp goosebumps where the kids are competing against eachother constantly to get filtered and fed to a monster somewhere.
>>215468737agreed. this one felt more sincere and didn't have the same cheesiness

The haunted mask is awesome. Or course ive seen the show and movies, I was a huge fan and it got me into horror. I just hate that the horror fan base is god fucking awful now
You bros want to watch some of these on Halloween with me? What's that one site that we use to watch tv together?
>>215468783>>215471285He might be thinking of Welcome to Dead House, the first one in the series, the family's dog is turned into a zombie by the undead townspeople. After they apparently wipe out all the undead, they leave the house, but the protagonist thinks she sees the undead realtor that sold them the house there at the house selling it to another family as they drive away. In the TV episode, instead of this they retrieve their dog who was missing, and when driving away from the town the dog is revealed to be undead and they have to leave it behind, he might be conflating both of those together.
>>215471331Excellent cover art. In fact it's probably the biggest reason Slappy wound up becoming the mascot and the star villain of the book's sequels.

>>215467314Goosebumps never scared me as a kid, but The Nightmare Room had one episode that scared the fuck out of mebasically Shia Labeouf finds an old doll when going through his old toys and he talks about how he outgrew it, it then comes to life and tries to kill his real friends then turns him into a doll. His mom finds out in old home videos when he got the doll at his birthday party and evil magician brought it to life
>>215471562Welcome to Dead House was the only Goosebumps book that actually scared me as a kid. A real draw-in

>>215471619No I do not, as while it had plenty of excellent ones, there were some duds where the artist overdid the crazy perspective warps or garish colors. I'd say it's two thirds good covers.
>>215471331Yeah I'm not saying the invisibility mirror is the Goosebumps mascot. Slappy is iconic. That book wasn't as good though.
>>215471619They used to release three goosebumps stories in one book over here back in day as a hardcover and it would play a spooky tune when you opened the front cover. Not sure if they also did that in burgerland but it was comfy as fuck

>>215471759>>215471798werewolf of fever swamp and beast from the east were not only the best covers but also the best stories
>>215471636It being the first book written meant it was somewhat longer than the average book (after the first ten or so it shifted from an average of 130 or more pages to 120 or less, that doesn't sound like a lot but in a short book it's a decent percentage) with a bit more time dedicated to building up some creepy atmosphere, and it's also a bit more gruesome in spots since the general tone of the series wasn't quite nailed down, it was a bit wackier by later on.
>>215471852I only went once. It was karate camp. I was like 10. It was okay. Mostly nobody gave a shit about the karate, some kids got leeches from the lake, scary stories staying up until 2am at the campfire. I wasn't there for like 2 months though, it was just a weekend. If it went on and on I'm sure I would have hated it.
>>215471855Correct on the first one, it's a good entry. Beast from the East is not really a horror story, more of a fantasy adventure, but that's probably why I reread it a lot, it was different.
>>215471962Are you trying to say this art isn't cool as fuck?
I feel like I would have got bullied at camp because I was so quiet as a kid. They probably would have drowned me in the lake because I couldn't swim. They would have made a camp spooky story about me called the legend of the drowny downy

>>215471787True I read both of them and they were not good lol. I remember laughing and shaking my head by the end of the 2nd one. >>215472116>I miss those days of diving into books that I couldn't put down.Start reading Borges and Italo Calvino.
Ghost Beach was insane. One of the first books I read on my own that wasn't some BS childs book. The plot twist blew me away at the time.
>>215472116>>215472224>>215472255seriously bros right now your can go read Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tartias or I really recommend Invisble Cities of If on a winters night a traveler. seriously bros read Borges and Calvino. Also if you like horror specifically read Clive Barkers short stories. Here's the Yattering and Jack on on audiobook, it's a very very good story.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO4sPvcXdRE

>>215467314Only managed to find this one. I just know that I have 10-12 more lying around somewhere. Still a decent story though and the twist was good.
>>215472917Yeah and it's one of all time favorites, even the shitty straight to DVD ones just because I like the concept and characters so much
>>215472796Also a good two parter in the TV show, they keep quite close to the book and it has some nice atmosphere
>>215472944Fear Street was pretty good and I remember it being more mature than Goosebumps. Goosebumps seems to have been made from the start to just be campy and simple and easily reproduceable The Cheerleader Fear Street trilogy is sick
>>215472676>>215472715>Clive Barker comes swinging out of the gate with The Book of Blood as his first storyHe's such a disgusting pervert, and he lays it all out immediately. >>215472224I’ve read calvino and borges. We’re talking about goosebumps.
>>215472637Vastly underrated Goosebumps entry imo. It might make most peoples top 10 or top 20 but it should be top 5 or #1 easily
Ghost bumps doesn't compete.> Couldn't even find these in library since they kept being banned.I was lucky in the late 90s and my library was late to find out, but they did and I remember asking multiple times about them later and them saying no and thinking I just didn't remember the book title or that it was another book when it was really them not allowing that book anymore
>>215467314I used to watch this with my younger sister and she'd get so frightened her nipples would be hard as little rocks.
>>215467314>Monster blood is a better take of the blob and The stuffHow did they do it?
>>215469842A lot of them had dark endings, or at least dark by kids show standards.
I like Chekhov’s stories, since were discuss literature. My favorites are the huntsman, the student, and a painful clerk.
>>215473702For me it’s Tolstoy’s stories. The Devil would make an excellent psychological thriller
>>215473173Whole show is hilarious to watch these days
I remember reading and watching my fair share of Goosebumps but nothing really distinct and vivid has stayed in my mind besides a short part of an episode. I could not remember the context but it was the kidnapped kid with the creepy old dude, this thread reminded me it had werewolves so it must be Werewolf of Fever Swamp. The exact thing was the kid talking about his parent's guns, specifically the "elephant gun". This stuck in mind because I was so fucking confused as to what that was a kid and had no internet to look it up on so I had to manually piece together info from my grandparent's book collection. Also the book with the cover of the executioner coming down the tower stairs because I remember reading that in the hospital when I'd visit my one grandfather while he was in the hospital and he just did not give a single fuck that I was trying to get some kind of connection with him before he died. Got pissed and never finished the book.

>>215487739I liked it, it was good little thriller in spite of the bait and switch cover.
>>215468737That's not the cuckoo clock of doom.
>>215487792found that cover terrifying as a kid, never had the guts to even read it. Later I found out it was just a silly story about a giant jelly monster that makes kids wash him
I had a couple of these CYOA books, they were alright but you can tell they were running out of ideas at this point
>>215487909>ends with him erasing his horrible little sister from existenceso satisfying
>>215487949I didnt enjoy these because they were always so short.I chose the adventure that I wanted the first time, if I re-read it and choose other stuff, that really isnt my adventure anymore
>>215487949>>215488011>make a choice>go to page 35>WHAT ARE YOU THINKING YOU CAN'T DO THAT, TRY AGAINwtf lol
>>215488034Did they really do that?I dont recall.
>>215487954Yeah, that's the reason why I like cuckoo clock, it actually has the MC standing up for himself, which is rare.
>>215488065sometimes yeah, usually when you chose to do something really stupid
>>215488124>usually when you chose to do something really stupidOh no wonder I dont remember it then.
>>215487792>strangest cover >most kino movie
I bought this book at a book fair because the cover was cool, it was holographic. I really hated choose your own adventure books because I was a fast reader and constantly flipping through pages was annoying. The story itself was fine, it was about kids who are on vacation in Vegas and they come across a real mummy. I think it follows them around, and the endings are when the mummy gets the kids.

Is that nigga RL Stein dead?Need a new revival of goosebumps mania. The new fear street movies are shit
>>215471852No. It's basically a place for parents to shove kids for a few weeks so they don't have to deal with them. Unless you enjoy hiking or swimming in ice cold lake water, camp sucks. Probably the worst thing about it is everything involves handholding, you're never allowed to just enjoy the woods on your own terms.
>>215474113Trapped in bat wing hall was my favourite as a kid.
>>215488453He's still alive, right now he's producing Goosebumps comics
>>215488597Need Goosebumps anime for the new gen
>>215488453If you've never haunting hour it's pretty good. The first 2 seasons are actually quite dark, it's basically goosebumps aimed towards teens.
>>215488630oh thats interestingnever heard of it
>>215488654It's made by RL Stine. There's a lot of episodes on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWYToNleArQ&list=PLbIkVKJZuWZYNZ7gLeuJ0LJU5bYy_8yHh
>>215472796the only memory i have of my great grandma is reading this to me
>>215468070Why are niggers and third worlders in general so mean and angry all the time?
>>215471852Yes. I went to some catholic summer camp in like 5th grade, went to normal. camps 6th, 8th grade and was a counselor my junior year with another friend of mine. Some of the best times Ive ever had
>>215469864harry potter?
>>215488630>>215488654>>215488688The Haunting Hour is dope as hell, love the episode about the team mascot that eats children
>>215474727I have no recollection of a kid learning to fly. I remembered the elephant gun thing, the dog in the intro, the shadow in the intro, and the puppet. That's pretty much it.
>>215485074>I like da pictures!
>>215480171>The Beast from the Eastprobably the best one, and scariest for me personally
For me it's the episode where the witch aunt turns the two brothers into old farts and then wants to literally pimp them to her old lady friends as husbandstruly a product of the 90s
>>215489610They never made that book into an episode, it didn't have any horror at all but it actually was one of the best books.
>>215480177>Chicken, ChickenHe really scraped the bottom of the barrel with this one. The ending made me roll my eyes even as a kid
>>215472005They just wanted to chill and play tag.
>>215472139Read Marcus Aurelius and watch the Grey.
>>215486180>>215486585>fur and cape physics simulator>twigs with tentacle masses and eyesWooow, so scary and innovative
I like Goosebumps 2000
>>215490719why does chicken chicken make people seethe so much? it really isnt that different to the rest
>>215469736>when Han Solo was getting tortured and the only thing you can hear is him wailing in agonyGave me a boner as a kid so...no
Whats that Goosebumps like series where a sister and brother eventually realize the farm they live in is at the edge of the apocalypse or something and they can't do anything to prevent so end up accepting their inevitable deaths at the endThat was unironically too depressing for kid horror
>>215477128I'll give it a shot. I was watching the voice actors of resident evil playthrough and it was fun.
>>215490962Being turned into a chick is not scary
>>215478580Based Adam west cameoing in the episode.
>>215491037>The Goosebumps-like series you are likely thinking of is The Last Kids on Earth, written by Max Brallier. The books, which are illustrated, are about a group of kids surviving a monster apocalypse
>>215491037Scarecrow Walks at Midnight I think?
>>215484036Skeleton keyNever here 2017.Men.
>>215482050This. That's why most kids comics from the golden age don't exist in high quality.>>215482091Yeah they're really cheap. I've seen lots on eBay to for like $5-8 dollars a book but they are also (usually) in good condition.
>>215467314WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF
>>215491037>>215491085That was the Haunting Hour, this is the episode:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jtu12bqxbU&list=PL_ZFR492tBR7R2omqVMvcgAyAxY3q3ON5&index=31

>>215488453He's still around. He actually did some Garbage Pail Kids books. I have them but I'm slowly going through the GPK comics.
If you like this, Blake holsey high was a boarding school with xfiles mixed in. Part Buffy with the kids trying to explore the mysterious of some industrial mega corporation nearby.
>>215467314IIIIIIII'M HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYY
>>215467314>Viewer beware..I’m gonna slap your derrière
>>215491147Yep, that's it.It's quite high concept and depressing for literal kid horrorFunny how they made two endings for it and BOTH end with the sister dead/gone and the brother alone on an empty, still world
>>215491134Thanks for the recs, these look interesting
>>215491316watch the new pet semetary movie. The only down side is that the new jed could never compare to the original actor and it excludes Billy Baterman, but the twist is better than the original story and both endings are suicide fuel depressing
>>215491222>had collection of garbage pail kids>got rid of them during my foolish move on adolescent period>had collection of Pokémon cards>leave them outside one night stolen forever>had collection of yugioh cards, biggest collection>give them to nephew like an idiot>get bent but stay in family until he doesn't really want them>without me knowing dad gives them to female coworkers son, mainly because he gets a stiffy "cheating" in weird ways like that>find out 2 years later when I ask where they went, he acts like it wasn't a weird thing to do "you didn't want them anyways"I just wanted to show them to my woman's younger siblings because they were old enough and they loved drawing their own monsters on cardstock cards which is something I did alot as a kid
>>215492363>this pathetic greentext>painfully avoids saying "my wife's son"nigga....
>>215492244isn't that the one that ends with the dad on the car and the zombified wife/kid asking for him so he joins them
>owned like 15 goosebumps books as a kid>sold them all to a used book store over 15 years agowhyI'd kill for those books right now to relive my childhood
>>215493103the alternate ending is way more fucking depressing only the toddler is left alive trapped in the car as the others surround in and start breaking in
>>215491259Yo, SpongeBob be playin’ too much!
>>215492363Scalper/Speculation "chads" ruined everything. It's just printed paper, in worse quality of what we can print today. But people have to ask tons of money for that stuff now.
I just started watching the first season on Tubiwhat am I in for?
>>215493129I found beast from the east and scary stories to tell in the dark and it was a time capsule.
>>215494227A subpar children's show.
>>215485074Agreedthe appeal of goosebumps was always the covers and the cool raised logo
>>215494451:(
>>215468080Goosebumps wasn't scary
What is the horror tv show that had a boogie man show up and atrack his bullies on a swing set? It was in the 90s.

>>215476712that's because midges are monsters
>>215467314Wow these thread is still upAlso, picrel is scariest book, especially because protagonist actually 'dies' in it

>>215495779awesome cover
Anyone remember the Goosebumps fan website "The Bumps" from the 90s? O ised to go on there to read write ups of the books and episodes and Goosebumps related news. It was created by none other than the eunuch from CNN when he was a kid
>>215497067It might be 80s, they never show his figure. It is just him looming over the kid after he conjurs him up to scare the other kids and it gets him instead.
>>215494227A scare
>>215495911This is the best one. The incel becomes the arch-chud and destroys the world
