Just watched vampire hunter d (2000), I loved itRecommend more movies like this
>>215467799I liked that part where the cripple turned into a ghost and vaporized a bunch of vamps with ghost lasers.
yes there are loads of tranime
>>215467799You've reached the peak.
Angel's Egg (1985) is probably the closest in terms of style and aesthetic, but have about zero plot and is just a moodpiece or vibemovie or whatever the hell kids call it today.
>>215467799>2000
>>215467816That's my favorite part too.
>>215468008brother it is literally noahs arc story are you retarded or never went bible pear apple tree duck cable mat

>>215467799The original from 1985 and.. that's it.
>>215467799there's not many, it's kinda unique
>>215467799Vampire hunter F
>>215467799Unfortunately, there aren't any. Do you have any idea what size an army of slave laborers it takes to create animation like that? You don't.
>>215467799Wicked CityHellsing/Hellsing UltimateYou can also watch the OG Vampire Hunter D
>>215467799Even though it doesn't feature vampires, Ninja Scroll has similar animation

>>215467799
>>215468117Haven't seen it in a long time. Just watching this clip gave me chills.
>>215468511hellsing is kinda garbage. animation is alright, premise, characters, story is a cheap power level anime that cosplays as edgy...most of the action is mild
>>215468606It's fun though, same vein was Dragonball
>>215468580wouldn't it be vampire hunter b?
I mean the 1985 original is better
>>215468511Don't forget Demon City Shinjuku too.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpPx3_DB7lQ
Cyber City Oedo 808 has a vampire episode (whole series is only three episodes)English dub with Japanese music only though. Trust me

>>215468657heh.
>>215468606You might be right about hellsing, but man did I enjoy it.Also the part where the zeppelin was over London and you can hear a goebbels speech? That is actually part of the song they used for when the rockets launched and started redecorating London. It is called Schaft Broken English.

>>215468212Back in the day Japan loves charging hundreds of dollars for DVD and VHS releases. It wasn't uncommon to pay almost $100 for a single DVD or VHS tape with just 1 or 2 episodes. Japanese fans hated this and started importing releases from America and Europe to save money. Japanese companies started losing money. So they lower video quality for foreign DVD releases. But keep the highest quality for Japanese only release. Then advertise that Japan has the highest quality video releases to force fans to buy the local Japanese release. Yes. It's a very shady and messed up thing to do. But the Japanese do it all the time. They love price gouging anime fans. It still happens today with Bluray disc releases.
>>215469173What's it like being this wrong? Did you work hard at it, or are you blissfully unaware of your own retardation?
>>215469364its very static. the water doesnt ripple when stepped in for example. when the chick gets grabbed her entire lower body is freeze framed
>>215467799Ninja scroll its a must see too
>>215467799The original is genuinely better. Bloodlust is good. But the original is awesome.
>>215467799I don't even know what the directors name but his stuff is the only anime I ever enjoyed.
I love watching all the grey screen webms posted of shows ill never get to see.
>>215469590>>215469638Am I supposed to be impressed by this?
>>215467799Bram Stoker's Dracula
I used to be obsessed with this shit as a kid. I even read some of the crappy light novels. It's basically just Dracula's half-vampire bastard son roaming around and breaking into abandoned high tech vaults to look for a way to his father.

The voice acting is top notch for an english dub. I remember Carmilla's being a favorite of mine. Shame her VA doesn't work anymore.
>>215467799The original from 1985, and ninia scroll are really the 2 closest to it. Other kinos from that era are ghost in the shell, akira, and the patlabor moviesm
>>215468645Angel cop pairs nicely with this.
>>215467799Madhouse's other stuff like Ninja Scroll and Cyber City Oedo.
>>215468634I love that Kawajiri's entire filmography is basically iterations on a theme. As much as I adore Ninja Scroll, I do think Wicked City was his peak.

>>215468634Context why did she try to eat her lover?
>>215473928>Street Fighter The Animated MovieThis film is shockingly good.
>>215467799The novels are really good too anon. I recommend those. As for other anime like this id suggest Ninja Scroll the 90's anime movie. The 1 season anime series they made was like a fun 7/10. Saying that I saw it when I was like 14 so I don't know if I'd still retain the same opinion if I watched it now. The movie is absolutely timeless though, that and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust are the best anime movies in my opinion. There is an original Vampire Hunter D anime movie made in 1985 which is good also but Bloodlust is the best.
>>215468634Wicked City underdelivers in action, horror, and smut. It does have these things, but they are thinly spread out.
which is better , Bloodlust or Vampire Hunter D? I've only watched the original. But /tv/ always mentions Bloodlust.

>>215474290Bloodlust is a genuinely great film, without even including the “anime” qualifier.

>>215467799Often I'll buy rolls of meat like Strasbourg and use my Bowie knife to stab it and then chew it off the knife like a leg bone.I do this because of the scene with the one human hunter doing it.
>>215468673It happened because of the late night Japanimation marthathon the SciFi channel did every summer. A bunch of the movies posted in this thread were among those aired, including Wicked City.

>>215475629When Sci-Fi Chan and anime weren't trash.
>>215470331I think its incredible just how much animation quality improved between these two movies.Vampire Hunter D (2000) is beautiful, every shot is rendered in a level of detail of a movie poster, its one of the most beautiful animated movies ever made before or since nothing is on this level, Vampire Hunter D (1985) looks like a Saturday morning children's cartoon, standard anime slop.Shame we never got Vampire Hunter D (2015) but hopefully we get a Vampire Hunter D (2030).
>>215468333I wanted this so badly to be Gunsmith Cats, but it just isn't. Why couldn't GSC have gotten a complete series like this? It's not fair :(
>>215470154I think the classic hand drawn animation is too dated for most zoomers, unfortunately. I like both VHD and VHD:BL but the original is an all time classic.
>>215474290While I like both equally, I'm not embarrassed to watch Bloodlust with a normie who isn't a fan of animation. It has a visual style that even general audiences can enjoy.
>techno-gothic aestheticnips are hella based. why cant we come up with this shit?
>>215467799that's not a movie thats a cartoon for kids
>>215467883>3 frames per minutekek
>>215467799Best bet is to look for anything that was released by MANGA! video in the 80s and 90s. >Devilman OVA (not crybaby bs or 70s)>Black Lion>Ninja Scroll (as other commenters mentioned)>Akira (not my favorite but a classic)>Ghost in the Shell (movie, not the series)>Perfect Blue>Street Fighter II: The Animated Series>Blood: The Last VampireNone of these hit EXACTLY the same as VHD:BL, but they're in a similar vein- cutting edge anime with a vision before it became static formulaic tripe in the late 2000s. Also give the original Vampire Hunter D a watch.
>>215468776kek
>>215467799>Recommend more movies like thisvhd bloodlust is the highest form of anime made in the past 20 yearsimo, i cant be topped
>>21547599325 yearssorry
>>215474290Normies will prefer Bloodlust because the animation is cleaner and it has a more dynamic story. Original is a pure classic, simple and not ashamed of it. Hand drawn animation beautifully rendered on a shoe-string budget. Damsel in distress, castle full of evil monsters, vampire overlord, a princess, mutants. It's one of my all time favorites. Bloodlust is good too, but not a true classic like the original.
>>215476008>>215475993It's definitely up there, the late 90s and early 00s had some really great releases like this. A shame what anime became when it started to blow up internationally. The shit they make now seems almost as bad as modern Hollywood trash, but in a different way.

>>215467799nijna scroll just below d and thats it theres nothing else >>215467883KINOINO
>>215475935The lore in Vampire Hunter D is fucking silly, its set in the year 12,000 and vampires have ruled the earth for the last 10,000 years, and during their dominion they bioengineered mythological monsters and nightmare creatures and released them into the wild just for yucks, and built everything in a gaudy gothic style with flying buttresses and gables because that's just what Vampires are into apparently. Like being a goth just comes with the territory once you're bitten. Also at some point the Vampires got into a space war and build their death castles to be giant space ships apparently and most of them fucked off at some point, presumably into space and now humans are just starting to reclaim the earth. You kinda just have to go along with it when you're watching the movie, the title crawl is really short on details, but that's what I understand about the lore from having watched both movies once.
>>215476032mid
>>215469769Underrated post and definitely worth seeing if you liked Vampire Hunter D. The Ninja Scroll series isn't quite as good but has a lot of unique monsters that makes up for a mediocre story.
>>215473784That was good till the end.
>>215476073i loved it, there was just so much mystery involved, so many unanswered questionsi really felt like that nurse at the end where she started to ask for "david" and she was told there was no david
while we're on the Vampire subject I'll mention Vampire Princess Miyu which I started and seems kino. its a 90s OVA series
It's nowhere near the same story but I remember Angel's Egg giving me somewhat of the same vibeSword of the Samurai also has that tragic escort mission going on
>>215469769>>215476081Yeah I don't think Ninja Scroll holds up anywhere near as well. It was big during that post-Akira "Wow anime isn't just speed racer and sailor moon anymore, it can be dark, gritty, and for adults" era. Watching it today, however; it feels childish in a way Bloodlust or Akira don't. Like it gives off the impression of someone exploring the freedom of not having their parents around and they just throw in as much sex and violence as possible because they can, but they're not mature enough to use them in an effective way yet. Its fun if you're in the mood for something for like that but it feels like a 13 year old's favorite movie. Like a pulp fiction or a fight club.
>>215476227Both Angel's Egg and Vampire Hunter D had concept art by Yoshitaka Amano; not /tv/ related per se but he also did character art for the golden age Final Fantasies.
>>215476230who asked tho?
>>215476230Fun fact, Ninja Scroll and the Devilman OVA were my favorite animes when I was 13. Also Hamtaro and Sailor Moon.
>>215476227>Angel's Egg giving me somewhat of the same vibeIts got the same artist, Yoshitaka Amano, and he's got a pretty distinct style.
>>215476315Mine was Char's Counterattack. Being 13 is one hell of a drug.
>>215476357Classic! I never watched any Gundam, never quite knew where to start. Might have to correct that.
>>215475951we just saying shit?
>>215476230That's kinda part of it though in that for its time it was different and it had unique characters with unique powers/abilities and character designs. It also took place in a time period similar to Feudal Japan with a story reflective of that. Maybe a 13 year old by today's standards but it originally came out in 1993, Pulp Fiction was 1994 and Fight Club was 1999. The movies you're talking about came out in some cases over 30 years ago at a time when media wasn't as easily accessible or abundant. Your critique shows a disconnect from the world those movies came from which no longer exists, I mean there was a point in time you could rent any of those movies in just about every city from a video store.
>>215476384Pretty much anon, dont pay attention to my buffoonery.
>>215476435I could rent literal hentai videos when I was 12 because the rental stores just stocked them with the rest of the anime lmao
>>215476461or as it was known colloquially at that time; "Japanimation"
>>215476461Yeah saw that happen A LOT, especially Hollywood Video. I remember shopping at one and a parent was reaming the staff out about a hentai their kid "accidentally" picked out.
>>215476493I always got away with it- of course the hentai back then was no where near as depraved as the shit from the last couple decades. Still, probably didn't do myself any favors towards becoming a well adjusted adult.
>>215468557you must be retarded not to understand what it's about, it's not exactly subtle
>>215467883>>215468117>>215468439I just feel like the VHD World would be such a cool setting for a CRPG, too bad no western dev would ever tackle a japanese IP.
>>215475871Are OVAs still a thing? I'd prefer if we got more of them over full series. Higher quality animation but fewer eps and more akin to short films.
>>215476653>Are direct to video animations still a thing?No...no they are not.
>>215476230hard disagree. NS knew exactly what it set out to be and it succeeded: proof that anime could be mature. tis violence feels purposeful rather than gratuitous, unlike much of the later gore driven grotesque animeschlock that followed.

>>215476058Do you really find that silly? I don't know any media in the 80s with a take even remotely close to that. I think at the very least is quite original. Personally, I find it cool as fuck. Also to anyone fan of the franchise here, get your kokoros ready because both Kikuchi and Amano are in their 70s. It'll be over soon.

Bloodlust is very good, but the audio mixing is so weird. The music is insanely loud compared to dialogue.

>>215476058>and built everything in a gaudy gothic style with flying buttresses and gables because that's just what Vampires are into apparentlyYou say that like there's something wrong with it. If we were a culture worthy of surviving ten millennia we would have kino architecture like high gothic too.But also, at least in the movie, none of that shit really matters or is brought up. It affects how the story is written but you don't get some forced exposition treatise to tell you about this weird world building so it just becomes mysterious and unearthly. The world clearly exists beyond the story being told and is grounded enough to believe but still feylike in its ultimate delivery. It works for me at least, especially paired with that gorgeous animation.>>215476647True

>>215469769>>215476081>>215476230>>215476435Basilisk adapts the original story closely, Ninja Scrolls took inspiration and while masterful the story loses steam quite significantly down the line
How come all the Blurays they're selling of these are dubbed?
I have a multiple billion dollar media franchise story/universe that would become the most popular thing ever made. I would probably start with a small animated series/film to begin with.If I had unlimited budget I’d hire all of the old animation masters to work on it along with sequential/coinciding releases of video games, ARGS and books. It would basically be planned to tap into what makes humans hope and dream while also representing every nation/race/religion and fandom on the planet; while offering merchandising and third party goods and services from toys to fuckin cookbooks. It might not be as profound as some of the greatest works of art but the sentiment behind it and the unifying aspect and size of the fandom would make it transcendent. It would be like dbz for Latin Americas, capeshit for Indians, stalker for Slavs and nba for blacks all roled into one.
Paprika for animation quality. Completely different tone but masterful. Satoshi kon is fantastic.
>>215476081>UnderratedThis word has lost all meaning
