>>
>>215473087
when I was growing up I was so into watching dog movies until I realized that EVERY single one of them is about the dog dying and now I just don't watch them.
Not only is it not fun it's emotional manipulation.
>>
>>215473124
Well in this case the dog survives
>>
>>215473130
>>215473148
Cool, might watch it then thanks!
>>
Pretty solid movie, very well shot considering it was some literal 400$ budget movie that originally wasn't meant for major release. Interesting it ended up being a movie about a dog processing and coming to terms with grief and his powerlessness to protect his owner from a disease. It's almost like a movie made for dogs in a sense.
>>
>>215473087
It has a good message. The approach is very interesting but there are some things that I think could have been improved.
The world is so jaded that people will judge it too harshly before knowing anything about it.
>>
>>215473181
I loved that, but I feel like it didn't focus as much into the dog's emotions after the owner dies. I wish it showed more than just the owner threatening it to stay there forever.
Also what happened to the grandpa and dog? Did he just bury his own dog with him?
>>
>>215473087
Crap.

This is what I would had done.
A big family moves into a town similar to Salem.
Witch curses the family because she is a piece of shit and hates everyone, similar to drag me to hell.
It is implied the families who lived there moved, became broken or some weird tragedy happened to them.
Witch curse brings out a demon.
Demon starts fucking around with the family.
Family is made out of 8+ people similar to Krampus.
Demon starts small heckling the family but only the dog notices.
The main dynamic is between the demon, the dog and the grandpa who hates the dog.
Demon heckling causes the family to start hating each other since the demon hides or misplaces stuff and as consequence the dad loses his job, the siblings fight each other, one of the kids breaks his leg, one of the aunts has a seizure.
There is a little girl who needs constant medication.
The demon goes too far and kills the grandpa by shutting off the valve of the oxygen tank because the grandpa was very religious
The dog does his best to warn the family
Ultimately the dog tries and fails to fight the demon 1 on 1
The dog is put down the next day due to his injuries which the family believes were made by a wild animal but they are not sure.
The demon finally moves to kill the little girl
As he is about to strike another shadow appears in the night
Only the teeth are seen
Some wolf creature mauls the fuck out of the demon rattling the entire house waking up everyone
The demon retreats to the witches home and both are in turn to shreds by the wolf
The witch is found dead with the most exaggerated dead pose imaginable
Later that Sunday gives a motivating speech and the little girl makes a somewhat miraculous recovery
She sees her grandpa and her dog in the distance during the early light for an instant
The spirit of the grandpa and the dog watch the family leave the church and the man turns to the dog and says "Good Boy" and the dog waggles his tail.
>>
>>215473231
>Also what happened to the grandpa and dog? Did he just bury his own dog with him?

I don't know in a literal sense but I took it as the grandfather's dog died because he was unable to move on once the grandfather also died of the same illness.

Also I don't think he was threatening the dog at the end, he said "you're a good boy but you have to stay" ie the dog has to stay in the world of the living and not pass on/give up/die along with the owner.
>>
>>215473231
>Did he just bury his own dog with him?
no. there is a scene where the granpa tells his dog to run fearing it might get hurt. Very likely it followed him to the basement like the Good Dog. Unfortunately no came to check up on him and it died there. We see its bones there
>>
>>215473255
I'm glad you're not a director or writer for any studio. Your ideas are pretty lame compared to the actual movie.
>>215473282
So the moral is that its better to be a Bad Boy than a simp
>>
>>215473231
In both cases the dog followed the owner's spirit to the basement, but the one with the neckerchief got trapped and died. Indy's owner's sister freed Indy before the same thing could happen to him.

>Later that Sunday, the local father gives a motivating speech, says a prayer for the characters that died, and the little girl makes a somewhat miraculous recovery
>She sees her grandpa and her dog in the distance after they leave church, I believe the term are god rays to this type of illumination.
>Anyways the girl sees the dog and his grandpa for a second before they disappear into the light.
>The spirit of the grandpa and the dog stand by and watch the family as they all leave the church together.
>the grandpa, now in good health, turns to the dog and says "Good Boy" and the dog waggles his tail.

I love dogs, I loved the dog in this movie. I don't know how I feel about the story itself though. It seemed pointless and mean-spirited. We're told he was a loving master but he treats the dog like shit for 80% of the movie, the dog does everything he can to save him, in the end he can't? That's it? If dying was important, okay, have the owner die but at least have the dog accomplish something. Maybe the owner still dies psychically, but the dog is able to save his soul at least. The way it is now, it just makes you feel bad.
>>
>>215473883
Agreed. I found the concept really neat but the execution fell a little flat for me in that regard. I feel like the dog didn't accomplish anything and wasn't threatened by anything either so he's just a spectator.

>>
Some of the camerawork had me interested and amused, but it didn't go far enough into dog pov (illegible written text for us, hearing owner as tones, perceiving human faces as other dogs, etc) to make it more appealing to a bigger audience but that contributes to it feeling flat imo. Won't watch again cause I'm not that much of a doghead, but I did cheer for the pup.

Don't worry too much. Cats have Sleepwalkers which features the most heroic pet movie of all time.
>>
>>215473883
Cause the point of the movie is being able to accept and move on from things you have no control over. Also the guy was only mean to the dog twice and it's pretty understandable considering he was literally at death's door, vomiting blood, losing teeth, no one would have much patience in that state, plus the movie showed them having plenty of good times together even up until the end
>>
>>215474055
Nah cats dont give a shit about you they just want food
>>
>>215473087
Actually pretty great, because it present to you a pretty standard ghost story(with a great script and camerawork at that) from a different perspective but it end up turning into a whole different thing at the end which makes it quite the unique movie, going from horror to make you tear up, the more I think about it the better this movie seems to be.
>>
>>215474139
My cat loves me. Don't be mean.
>>
>>215473883
I would say standing by his owner till the end and letting him know he was loved on his final moments is accomplishing something, he brought the owner as much peace as possible in such a situation

Also they gladly eat their owners whenever they die. Its such a selfish ugly creature, cats actually put their paw on their owner's nose to verify if they are still breathing or are ready to be eaten by them.
>>
>>215473087
I'm shocked at how many people don't understand the simple premise of this movie. The dog is seeing Death itself haunting the owner. It isn't some evil ghost movie. The pup is processing his own slowly dying.
>>
>>215473087
Not a good movie it was obvious metaphor for death and dog was never in danger
>>
>>215474188
The movie even has a scene where the sister mentions how dogs can detect things that people can't
>>
>>215474119
>Cause the point of the movie is being able to accept and move on from things you have no control over.
That would make sense if it was "just" cancer but there was a supernatural rape demon dragging him down to rapetown. Like I said, not being able to stop him from physically dying while saving his eternal soul would've made sense, had the dog accomplish something and been actually bittersweet. They were probably trying for bittersweet, the way the movie ended as is? Nothing but bitter.
>>
>>215474182
He literally says the dog can't and didn't save him, though.

I am unlucky enough to live in latin america and the thurd worlders here bash it because they wanted more action and for more cheap jump scares. I am ashamed to live among these "people" who didn't even understand the metaphors and themes.
>>
>>215474230
Yeah, there's no way for the dog to stop him from dying from cancer obviously, but the reason he calls him a good boy is because he appreciates the dog being there for him and wanting to save him, like I said it brings him a level of peace

It's more like A Ghost Story than a horror movie. It's using elements of a horror film to process grief. This is basically a dog seeing his best friend slowly deteriorate. It's a good movie.
>>
>>215474299
>>215474286
Indy is a dog. He could smell the lingering scents of the grandfather and the other dog. There's no demon. There's no ghost.
>>
>>215473883
I think you are missing the point, there was no ghost looking to make them suffer, at least not in the typical way, is an interpretation of what would a dog see in such a sad situation like a terminal illness is, and then the parallel with the dad who had the same end, there was nothing to accomplish except being there... ;_;
>>
>>215473306
Feels like it should been 30 minute short film desu
>>
>>215473328
There was no demon. It was just metaphor of death. Owner had cancer and dog had anxiety over it.
>>
>>215474286
Beginning of the movie we see the owner sent to the hospital over some disease, they tend to it and he recovers to a point, decides to start over because of the experience and move to his grandfather's house (who seems to have died from the same illness). The illness never fully recovered and kicks back up not long after moving, the man is dying, not slowly or subtly, he's vomitting blood, he's losing teeth, he's sleepwalking and fatigued. The dog can sense the impending death, much like the grandfather's dog could when he was going through it. The dog doesn't understand disease nor that he's sensing death and sees it as a figure actually trying to take the owner. At the end the dog tries to follow the owner into the after life in an attempt to save him but is told by the owner there's nothing he can do but he loves him for trying. The dog than comes to terms with this and accepts it, moving on with the sister, unlike the grandfather's dog who was unable to move on and died along with the grandfather.

>>
>>215474300
It's a good idea, but the movie doesn't hit the mark. It's boring and doesnt really peak anywhere, its a very emotionless movie considering the premise. You just kind of sit through it until the end and then its like "was that it?". The main human character is bland and unlikable so you dont end up giving a shit about anything the dog does anyway. There are no stakes because there's nothing to give a shit about.
>>
>>215474380

Can we stop being reddit for a second and realize that not every movie or game needs to be a metaphor for processing grief or generational trauma, and just because it does that doesn't mean it was good?

Conceptually this movie was interesting but the execution was a snoozefest with no stakes. It really kills the tension when the demon catches the dog like three times and nothing bad happens.
>>
>>215474731
It wasn't even a twist. It was obvious from about 1/4 of the way in that's what they were doing and there was no specific reveal at the end for people too stupid to have figured it out by then. The movie was shit.
>>
>>215474896
Every piece of art is a metaphor for something. What you're trying to describe are low effort, on the nose metaphors that are way too specific which makes them boring and condescending.
>>
>>215474055

>>
>>215474322
Todd means fox. The grounds were used for fox hunting. The house was a trap that had killed six generations of the family. The ghost hand attempting to drag Indy into the dog house that he escapes by breaking the chain is a metaphor for Todd being killed because he couldn't break the generational chain. There's a bunch of fun metaphors going on but the ghosts are there. The movie is pointless if they aren't.

The 'dog dealing with grief' metaphor doesn't really land when Indy was having dreams about the former dog and their owner the grandfather. Seems more like an entity was causing the men (at least) in the family to get sick and die younger than expected (he mentions this when they go to the cemetery) and then the creature waits to take their soul when they die. The dog can see this entity for whatever reason like heightened senses or something like that.
>>
Movie isn't a horror movie at all. It's the dog's view of disease in its owner. There is nothing supernatural. His owner had cancer and died. Owners sister found him and took the dog. the end. I was disappointed as well.

Samefagging on your laptop again to look like another faggot won't convince anyone, either. You already tried that too many times.

Only good thing about the movie is the dog's acting which shows the commitment from the film crew to get it done without any digital trickery (took about 400 days of filming over 3 years).

Otherwise incredibly mid.

Nice schizo post anon.

People are discussing it because the torrents are out and it was decently anticipated here, why would they shill a movie which is being watched for free lmao.

I know you immediately started typing and this after posting the dog. You're still not convincing anyone to see the movie.

There's often a schizo anon in a new film thread going on about shills etc. It's been like this since /tv/ has existed.

You know the theory about certain interests trying to make the boards less interesting for people to visit so they eventually stop coming here? This schizo faggot is an agent of those people.
He sows doubt in people's minds by claiming that nothing here is organic and all of the posts are made by one person. Likely affiliated with the Discord troons who brought the site down earlier in the year. For some reason, they love the /tv/ board.

Dog movies are completely pointless depression fuel. It's always either the dog dies and you have to be miserable or the dog can't rescue the owner and now mourns him and you have to be miserable.
>Noo not le hecking pupperino!
You're brown. Hating dogs is for niggers and mudslime sandpeople. Your brown life is worth less than 10 street mutts.

The difference is that dogs usually try to avoid it until they can no longer stand the starvation, those that did are usually with abusive owners so they didn't think much of them.
Cats on the other hand actually eagerly wait for the chance and that's why they check on their owner's state daily. Such foul filthy selfish creatures.

It was just decent. Good Boy is just barely long enough to qualify as a movie. It's like an hour and ten minutes long. There was a little imaginative spark to the storytelling but then also it didn't really quite take off. Felt a little flat.
