The US government wants to capture Pennywise and use him as a weapon against the Soviets.

To do this, they need to acquire the shards from the meteorite he landed on earth in, which will allow them to control him.

In order to do this, they decide to use Leroy Hanlon, a Korean war veteran who suffered a brain injury that makes him impervious to fear.

The Hanlon family is sent to Derry. Pennywise discovers Hanlon's mission and invulnerability and seeks to destroy him.

Pennywiss begins manipulating the town into turning against the Hanlon family. The kids try to stop him, but it culminates in a racist massacre.

Pennywise also slaughters most of the town's population, and mind wipes the survivors into forgetting he exists, winning in the end.

This is so stupid, doesnt Pennywise just straight up kill adults out of the gate because most adults are not afraid of him?
>>
Realistic premise but I bet the execution will be absolute shit like everything else out now.
>>

No, he avoids targeting adults because they're not afraid of him although I'm sure if he wanted to, he could scare adults easily

>use pennywise as a weapon against the soviets
How? Is he gonna use russian fear to turn into a giant kaiju like pic related and stomp all over moscow?
>>
>>215482007
He targets adults through adult fears like cancer, ageing, abusive spouses, rape, bankrupcy
But they're less direct threats, so there's not as much he can do
>>
>>215482007
He doesn't need fear to operate, even if you're not afraid of giant monster it still fucks you up

>US Govt. captures Pennywise and uses him as a spy/assassin against the soviets
>During this time Pennywise is forced to take a consistent human guise and interact with other officers/agents of the Govt.
>Heavy implication that the USSR was actually a near-utopia until Pennywise began to spread paranoia and fear amongst it's leaders
>Throughout the season he grows romantically involved with the female agent assigned to be his handler as she begins to see the man behind the monster
>In the season finale, after a passionate sex scene with his true form, the pair kill the racist govt. agent overseeing the program and then escape into the soviet countryside together

>>
>>215482007
Iirc he sees fear in different ways with adults and it causes incidents throughout Derry history. At one point one of the characters is reading about some kind of riot in Derry and sees Pennywise in the window in a photograph of the riot with a rifle shooting at people, then when he looks back it's a normal person. The book suggest Pennywise does impact adults, similarly to how Salem's Lot worked. It's a corrosive force that fucks them up. It can't just turn into a spider or a clown to scare adults but it can fuck with their heads.

For the same reason I will never understand why Weyland Yutani wants the xenomorphs so bad. You dumb fucks have interstellar warships, nukes, and, androids… why do you want a slightly more dangerous tiger?
>>
>>215483985
I think the idea is you let a bunch of Xenomorphs loose inside a space station and they quickly clean the place out, then you recall them back to their cages and do whatever you were going to do with your new empty space station.
I'd say the bigger problem isn't "let's use Xenomorphs as a weapon" - the Space Jockeys were doing that from day 1 - but rather Weyland Yutani has no rival or enemy that makes Xenomorphs justified. They're the most powerful megacorp, with enough control of traditional governments to use bioweapons and human experimentation, and yet they still want Xenomorphs as weapons to use them on ?????
>>
>>215483985
Or the Jurassic World franchise wanting to weaponize raptors. What's a dinosaur going to do against a drone strike? You could probably take one down with a decent rifle, that's just never shown in the movies because everybody with a gun is made incompetent for the sake of the story.

Considering how IT operates, there's no fucking way the U.S. government would even know IT exists. IT also isn't physically in Derry or our universe. The spider monster is just another projection.
>>
>>215484128
You could just do that with marines. You can't even make the argument that the xenos wouldn't damage the infrastructure, because their blood is a magical acid that eats through everything. "Xenos would be cheaper!", because breeding and feeding them would be so inexpensive, right? Using them as a weapon is asinine no matter what. However, using them to harvest their acid blood or some other useful aspect of their unique anatomy makes actual sense. Their teeth are metal, right? An organic metal that can be grown in vats would be pretty useful.
>>
>>215484197
War isn't just dropping bombs. As far as in-universe logic goes, why wouldn't they? Raptors are smarter, deadlier, more organized than dogs, and are capable of complex communication and strategizing a la orcas. Ingen or whoever can just genes selectively modified for maximum obedience and trainability. The raptors in JW weren't the end goal, they were just the first step to exploring the possibility.

RLM got hung up on the laser pointer thing with the indoraptor (hurr, just use bullets), when if Mike would have actually looked up while jerking off to pictures of Patrick Stewart on his phone, he might have caught that the Indo was a prototype, and the laser pointer thing was just a rudimentary proof-of-concept to show that it was capable of instruction.
>>
>>215484355
The government probably has some idea that a really dangerous and powerful creature lives under Derry, they just don't know exactly what it is. The events of this series will probably be used to explain why Pennywise operates more discreetly in the films.
>>
>>215484524
Thats silly. NO ONE knows there's something affecting the town or its inhabitants. The kids are only able to detect it because a magic space turtle helps them. Also, IT isn't living under Derry, the fucker doesn't even exist inside our universe.

JUST MAKE SOMETHING NEW OR DON'T MAKE ANYTHING AT ALL GODDAMN IT.

There's an argument to be made that Marines aren't as efficient as Xenomorphs at what might be called 'orbital urban combat'. Xenomorphs are better adapted to spaceships. Marines are actually the cheaper option in this case, while Xenomorphs would be expensive and difficult to train but if successful then they'd clean house unless the space station was properly defended. And even then, a small group of Xenomorphs can and will defeat a group of Marines.
>>
>>215483932
The US Military is objectively bad though
>>
>>215484128
We have plenty of animals we could do that with now and we don't. We could breed lions to attack rioters in small towns and probably could jam electroshock probes in their brain to make them stop when we want, but there is no point to it.
>>
>>215484870
But why are they bad in Hollywood movies? Is it because they have bases where they don't belong? Conduct extrajudicial killings? Topple legitimate governments?
No, because they want some new exotic weapon that's actually worse than weapons they already have.

They probably were, but it was less a weapon beneficial to a corporate entity and more a genocide option. Scott clearly thought this because that's exactly what David used it for. Once you drop that bullshit on a planet there will be nothing left after a few years. It'll just be over. That would actually make it pretty worthless unless your sole intent was complete and unambiguous genocide.

One of my favorite tropes is when shit that's portrayed as IRL with a fantasy/sci fi/horror bend attracts the government or large players
>when the FBI run a sting on Jason Voorhees and tenderize him with bullets
>they're also in Final Destination but wisely cast a nerdy looking office guy as the main FBI dude so you know he's no help (he's also almost named Weiner lol)
>the President gets involved in BvS which should happen more often when superheroes are fighting a supervillain in a major US city
There's more and better examples out there. I WOULD like to know the first guy that was like
>an evil shapeshifter clown terrorizing our town and children? get me a line to the god damn white house, eisenhower's gonna wanna hear this
Also wouldn't Pennywise want more fear in the world? Perhaps the US would strike an actual deal that would allow him enough autonomy while still doing his thing against the evil Soviet children. He'd probably get a medal.

The Alien franchise is moving towards "They aren't valuable because they're pit bulls that are somehow smart enough to turn door knobs, they're valuable because they're ultra complex genetically engineered artifacts of an interstellar civilization"
Like the hope isn't to tame them and deploy them, it's to test them and dissect them and learn entire new paradigms of science to invent immortality and cancer cures and unbreakable alloys and sheeit, as if they were some sort of super poisonous magic rainforest flower

As much as people hate nu alien, that angle feels more plausible to me than turning them into Tactical Assault Gorillas (especially when fucking synths exist and would be terrific at that role)

>it's true
https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/hbos-new-it-welcome-to-derry-series-completely-ruins-stephen-kings-epic/

>The series’ set-up riffs on its source material in ways both big and small, complete with numerous references aimed at the King faithful (including nods to turtles, Shawshank prison, and Calumet Baking Powder) and the participation of The Shining’s Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk), whose psychic gifts are being used by Shaw to locate a “weapon” buried somewhere in Derry.

>Specifically, the U.S. military intends to capture Pennywise and sic him on the Russians and Cubans in order to prevent the forthcoming missile crisis and win the Cold War. To control the monster, which they barely understand, they must acquire the 13 “pillars”—rock shards from the “cage” in which it traveled to Earth millions of years ago—that have the power to contain it à la kryptonite, and whose whereabouts have been protected for centuries by a Native American population that’s acted as humanity’s selfless guardians.

>Leroy is the apparent key to this covert scheme, because he’s suffered a brain injury that’s left him unable to feel fear.

King is from Maine and has probably met 3 blacks in his entire life.

He can be on the nose and annoying, but he's never bothered me with his political leanings. He is an old man and no matter what people say about him, he has written some fascinating stories and everyone likes at least one.
>>
>>215481571
Please let this be real. It's so fucking stupid.

I’d charge the fucking thing with the nearest weapon to hand. Either I kill it, and I become a hero, or my name is remembered for ever as the first man who was ever eaten by a giant spider.

All horror series need at least ONE delta green type movie where the government tries to capture them to use as a weapon.

It's the East India company, they were comically evil in large part because they had a navy stronger than most countries including England.

Libtards hate him for using words like "niggers" and "faggots" so much in his books. Because god forbid a racist bad guy would ever dare to say that.

Yeah in the book, Pennywise basically says scaring adults is a pain in the ass compared to kids. Grownups have complex fears - they don’t believe in monsters anymore. Kids are easy to scare, so that’s what he/it does.

It’s way easier to shape shift into a Werewolf and scare the piss out of 12 year olds. How do you even shapeshift into a house forclosure, getting fired from a job, or whatever shit scares grownups

>He went full retard with the sequel
People say this but the two movies are of the same quality.

do we get the orgy or not?

Sounds like a Hellboy plot

How does sitting on anti-pennywise-onium instead of using it against the thing make you "selfless guardians"
>>

i hate this design so much

How is Steven King not deadm he sleeps on a bed of cocaine and jumps in front of moving cars for "book ideas".

>King is from Maine and has probably met 3 blacks in his entire life.
That's the thing. King is from New England, and utterly hates the whole region. Every single small town is a den of absolute evil, full of racism and bullies and probably a clown.
And you could go on down the list of various boomer paranoias.

How do they know this?

At least in shit like Resident Evil, the Tyrants are actually very effective weapons, going by Mr. X and Nemesis. The zombies and stuff are just an unfortunate by-product of their development that unintentionally leaked out into the public.

>>215489718
That's easy. During the Wounded Knee Massacre, a Native American shaman dying of blood lost told the general about it.

Ah, ok. Makes sense.
Thanks anon.

this is just the right amount of stupid where i can believe it without checking any other source

why doesn't king do a dark tower show instead of milking it again

A magical boogeyman in a realistic town is an easier premise to work with than whatever fantasy setting dark tower is .

Jesus, it's like all the worst aspects of modern writing jammed into one show.
They even have to collect the Infinity Pennywise Stones.

The movies never show it but Alien Isolation did a great job with the alien focusing only on lore from the first movie, like a single alien was enough to cause an entire space station with hundreds of people to fall apart and a single alien is so durable it can survive in the vacuum of space without any issue.

Exact same shit happened with Cloverfield, all the movies have zero connection to each other but desperate directors try to shove some sort of relevancy to save a mediocre movie

People don’t realize that the reason pennywise is limited to the town and mainly targets children whilst rarely attacking adults is because he’s literally the bottom of the food chain when it comes to monsters in his universe. He’s so easily defeatable when a prepared group fights him that he has to run away the majority of the time.
>>
>>215490298
Isn't he actually a shard of one half of the universe's yin-yang, with the other being the Turtle?
>>
>>215489379
That makes no sense, any adult would be immediately scared by some murderous raging werewolf rushing at them, or even just some lanky slenderman like figure
>>
>>215483842
Stephen King adaptations are often more criminally stupid than they're given credit for because almost no one actually reads the source material. Almost no one knows that Pennywise is also the "Big Bad" of The Dark Tower series known as the Crimson King, who in the final act of the dark tower, fights off the Hero, Roland, by throwing explosive Harry Potter snitches at him. Yes literally Harry Potter snitches. Stephen King is a hack and I'm still mad I wasted my time reading The Dark Tower for that payoff. If I weren't in jail while reading it I never would have bothered finishing it.
>>
>>215482244
>This might make a really big explosion but it might also ignite the entire World's atmosphere
>Well what are you waiting for we've gotta do it before the Gheris do.

>>
>>215490517
The Crimson King is a different entity, not the same one
>>
>>215490653
That's been retconned in the lastest King novels. It's revealed that the Crimson King and the Spider are both entities controlled by the Orange Emperor.
>>
>>215490653
In Insomnia, near the end in the chapter "In the court of the crimson king", Crimson King reveals he's a shapeshifter and says something like, "Shapeshifting is a tradition in Derry!" Or some shit like that. I refuse to read any more King novels so can you explain how this doesn't directly implicate Pennywise as being Crimson King?
>>
>>215489843
dark tower has substantial issues for adaptation. most notably, one of the main characters is a black schizophrenic wheelchair bound woman
>>
Why has there never been a movie where a military weaponizes one of these guys. Imagine them putting Mike Myers in cryostasis and air dropping him in Beijing. It can be both a fish out of water movie and also an epic horror movie. Maybe even a romance arc where the language barrier is overcome
>>
>>215490452
If they're a schizo maybe
Most adults would think it's some youtube influencer in a halloween costume or some dipshit furry who did too much drugs at a local convention
They wouldn't quiver in fear, they'd get in their car and call the police

Kids react differently to immediate threats like that. You tell them some furry on fent is a hungry werewolf and they'll believe it and run in terror
