>People actually watch this slop

for me it's in Return of the King where he fights the Oliphaunt.

why was Legolas cursed with so much wonky CGI? even in the first one, when he jumps on the cave troll. i know it's a cliché thing to say, but it really does look like a video game.

Did this happen in the books?

No

This is kino, dumb frogposter.
>>
>>215485285
If a single sylvan elf could do this, why the fuck didn't an entire army of high elves effortlessly decimate Sauron's orcs?
>>
>>215486684
Yes, pretty epic right?
>>
>>215486684
Yes. Tolkien glosses over most of the battle scenes such as the battle of the five armies being only a few paragraphs. But he ensures you know that Elves are very badass, very magical, and capable of superhero-like feats
>>
>>215486684
In the books the battle starts, Bilbo gets quickly knocked out and when he wakes up the battle is already over.

Since the story is written by Bilbo, the book doesn't tell much about the battle

>no fucking personality beyond epic parkour guy
Rewatching the lord of the rings trilogy recently made me realize how little I care for Legolas as a character

“They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25, and it seems that The Hobbit will be the same kind of film.”
- Christopher Tolkien

^ but yeah it's this. I had fun finally watching those DVD appendices the other day. Philippa Boyens even says she and Fran Walsh basically wrote the action in the screenplay as "they fight", then they let the blokes figure it out.

And the whole staircase escape in Moira was something like "The Fellowship run down the stairs and escape." The different teams just kept adding elements until it was the full action sequence in the film.

are elves retarded wouldnt you want to let the orcs run into the pikes

The ones holding the shields and spears are dwarves
The elves' pride won't let them rely on dwarfs, they have to show off their superiority

by jumping in front of the pike wall that's already being pushed on
>>
On an embarrassing note, I thought Eragon was cool as hell as a kid because it described the action. Mechanical "he swung his sword downward, but the goblin parried upwards!" shit.

tbqh it's just not interesting in text (the Conan stories get away with it by being a bit flowery). Even comic books struggle to do 'readable' action most of the time.

>>215487265
Hollywood is retarded. They hate spear walls. They never let them work correctly. They hate real battle tactics in general. Everyone just runs at each other then 1v1 sword fights with plate armor being as good as paper.

Bollywood coded.
