be Captain Anderson
ship trapped in the Arctic
finds half-frozen Victor Frankenstein
before dying, Victor starts narrating his story

flashback time
Victor’s father Leopold Frankenstein is a famous doctor and academic
Victor’s mother dies giving birth to William, and Victor blames him and his Father
Victor grows up brilliant but bitter, obsessed with conquering death and surpassing his father’s medical reputation

Victor attends university, performs an illegal corpse reanimation experiment, gets expelled
enters Henrich Harlander (Christoph Waltz), a wealthy arms dealer dying of syphilis and Elizabeth’s uncle
Harlander offers unlimited funding for Victor’s research for a favor in the future
Victor agrees

Victor forces his brother William to stay behind and help build the tower lab while he goes to seduce Elizabeth
Elizabeth is engaged to William (her arranged marriage) but Victor flirts with her anyway
they share a scene with a butterfly then entrap it and she says she feels like the butterfly trapped in a live she doesn't want to live. She hates war.

Once the lab is done, Victor assembles a body from corpses of soldiers

Harlander shows up wanting his consciousness transferred to the monster
Victor refuses, they argue, Harlander tries to sabotage the lab, falls to his death
Victor then animates the monster through electrical and chemical methods
Creature awakens
instead of awe or remorse, Victor panics
chains it up, beats it, runs tests. full-on abuses the creature
(none of this abuse exists in Shelley’s book)

Elizabeth and William go visit Victor
Elizabeth meets the monster and falls in love with it
Victor tells he to be careful and she calls him a monster. Says the man in the dungeon has a pure heart and soul and Victor doesn't
Victor gets mad and jealous, and abuses the monster.
Victor forces William to take Elizabeth away and destroys the lab trying to kill the monster, losing his leg in the process.
>>
Elizabeth and William get married
Creature escapes, finds Victor, asks for a mate
Elizabeth intervenes, shows him compassion says she loves him.
Victor tries to shoot the creature, accidentally kills Elizabeth

William gets fatally wounded in the chaos says he hates his brother and calls him a monster.
Creature takes Elizabeth’s body, before dying in his arms she tells him she loves him and caresses his face
Victor, now completely broken, chases the creature north
they fight on the ice, Victor collapses, and is found by the ship crew

he dies telling his story
the Creature forgives him, calls him father they say they love each other
Monster frees the ship from the ice, and disappears into the snow

no Henry Clerval
no philosophical debate about science or morality
no sense that Victor had everything. Family, love, status but threw it all away for his obsession with conquering death.
Victor’s father is a cold, elitist surgeon
Elizabeth is rewritten as a feminist moral anchor
the creature is a tragic victim
and Victor is a jealous, abusive narcissist funded by Elizabeths syphilitic uncle
