The real question is how much of this movie was based off of personal experiences from Lynchs coming of age.Seems like the kind of story that can only come from personal experience.

Jeffrey is not the same innocent Americana character by the end of the film, and the “mechanical” feel of the robin ties into this. Yes, the robin is real and is here, but deep down Jeffrey knows that there is a darkness that is underneath the town (and possibly himself). It’s not true peace, but those troubles within the film are pretty much gone. I wouldn’t call the vibes of it half-empty though. I’d say it’s just acknowledging the yin-yang of life. I’ve also heard people say that the film is essentially a cycle due to the repeated shots at the beginning and end of the film.
