Everyone laughs at Chucky but this original movie is way more intelligent than anyone gives it credit for. It's about the loss of innocence. The kid winds up alone in a psychiatric hospital and witnesses his beloved toy fucking murder people. Note the final shot where you see the kid looking back at Chucky's charred remains as he closes the door - he's closing the door to the life that he will never have back. The sweet, happy kid that we saw at the beginning of the movie is gone forever. It's genuinely fucking harrowing and brutal if you really watch it.
>>215491416It was only good when it started out like Annabell. You never see the doll moving. Soon as you see him moving and talking is when it stopped being an actual horror movie
>>215491450Theres a bit where you see Chucky climb onto a bed in the nut house looking for Andy and it still looks fucking great. Couldn't find it on YouTube.
>>215491416Been a long time since I watched this and I watched it first when I was like 7 or 8, but as far as I remember the first movie was played as a real horror with only subsequent movies making chucky into a more maniacal comedy horror villain.
>>215491525Didn't they use a larger set with a midget in a costume?
>>215491416I've watched it, i used to get nightmares
I watched this when i was 5 with my 2 yr old brother we had nightmares for years. Ade dui dembela
its pretty good. i like the part where andy starts crying because he knows chucky is coming for him
this part used to freak me out as a kid even though now it’s kind of obviously a big ass midget
>>215491686Yeah, that midget was outed as a pedo lol I hope he didn’t diddle the Andy actor.
>>215491416Alex Vincent's performance is fucking kino. 7yo has no business being that good of an actor.
>>215492169>>215492126That midget died
>>215491416Agreed. It's a solid film in its own right. The kid being the killer angle was very well done and the battery reveal is, to this day, one of the best reveals I've ever seen in film.>>215491525I love that shot. If I remember correctly they messed with the speed (undercranked it) a bit as well.
Mexico would have a chucky marathon every Halloween culminating in the bride of chuck last time I had network tv. The dark cloud effect is cool af! It reminded me of the mask when Dorian puts on the mask.
>>215491416It's the only actually good movie in the series without any caveats. Holland and Lafia cowriting it with Mancini, and Holland's direction are what makes it head and shoulders above the gay camp fest it became after the first movie.
>>215493607what's wrong with part 2? always thought it was as good as the first one (haven't seen neither of them in years tho)
>>215493674It doesn't take itself deadly serious like the first one does. It's campy and it's when Chucky becomes the main character and protagonist of the series.
>>215493748No it’s pretty much a serious horror movie. It has the same amount of jokes as the first movie. It’s just more stylized and less dark. Andy is still the protagonist
>>215493406Bride of Chucky tv spots on canal 5 had me shitting my pants as a kid haha
>>215493748Is it really that much campier than the first one? Sure OG has the mystery element at the beginning but once Chucky comes to life he becomes the star of the show and is just as vulgar as the rest of the trilogy. Even 3 had that serious tone. Bride is when it gets silly.
>>215493867>Even 3 had that serious tone.lol no
>>215493867>>2154939413 is when it became goofy
>>215493802That isn't true. 2 is not a serious horror movie. Even the movie poster reflects the less serious tone and the shift to Chucky as protagonist.
