For the past couple of days I have been trying to find an episode where the crew of the enterprise are accosted by a mysterious green slime, and they subsequently investigate... anyone help ?

The only TNG episode I can think of that vaguely fits that description is S05E20 "Cost of Living" where a metal parasite reduces parts of the ship to goo.
