It’s obviously best watching with cultish fans in a theatre with a shadow cast but I think if you can just stay in for the first few songs you get captured enough to finish it. Tim Curry gives one of the best performances of all time.

It's a cult classic, one of the best. I went to a showing when I was about 13 in full drag, and I'm pretty sure nobody knew whether I was legit a girl or a boy in drag. Good times.

Same. I don't understand "camp" in general. It's not really "so bad it's good" cause it's intentional. I don't think it's ironic either. I also don't understand Drag either. What's a Drag Race? Can you 'win' one? How do you win? Are the men making fun of women? What makes it funny?

Yes. Both films share the same director, producers, writers, composer, and a half-dozen cast members return but there's little to no continuity with Rocky Horror and it's 90% less gay.

>>
>>215496252
In my opinion, yes, but you'll have to see yourself. Jess Harper from Phantom of the Paradise constantly steals the show and Little Nell/Columbia looks incredible in it compared to Rocky. Riff Raff and Magenta also have a handful of classic scenes. Unfortunately, many Rocky fans are hardcore purists that won't give Shocky a chance, assuming they are even aware of its existence.
>>
>>
>>215496469
I would recommend not watching it immediately after Rocky Horror.
It's a good film but the biggest obstacle is recast Brad/Janet and no Tim Curry.

>I would recommend not watching it immediately after Rocky Horror.
Agreed.
>the biggest obstacle is recast Brad/Janet and no Tim Curry.
I think the lack of Tim Curry is what Rocky purists hate most. If he starred in it like originally intended, it would have a considerably warmer reception within the community.
Waifu bias aside, I like Sarandon a bit but Harper is arguably the better singer. Funny enough, Cliff DeYoung was Sharman's original choice for Brad in the original film but he couldn't make it for whatever reason so Barry Bostwick was cast instead.
>>
>>215496657
with brad and janet you can almost forgive it, since one could argue they're meant to be generic protagonists thrown into nonsense so they don't matter as much
but when you have 3/4ths of the original "crew" dancing around with a character who was definitely written to be played by Tim Curry, it's a big hindrance

Actually not bait, but I know it probably sounds like it. I had a gf who was into Rocky Horror I met on AOL, that's how I found about it. I got pussy when I was underaged, but then turned into an antisocial autistic incel after I turned 18. Funny, that. Anyways there's nothing wrong with being a virgin, having sex is only one part of life- the grotesque hyperfixation on this as some kind of coming of age right just signifies how vapid our society is, and how severely it lacks any meaningful initiatory rites of passage into manhood. Like I said, I got laid younger than most guys, but I still ended up a complete fuck up neet who's afraid of cute girls.
>>
>>215494862
I haven't seen it since a midnight screening in Sydney, Australia in 2005. Pretty crazy to think it would have been projected on film back then. I rated it 9/10 on IMDb. I'll have to rewatch it since it's the 50th anniversary.

It was interesting that LGBTQ characters formed a storyline that had nothing to do with persecution of LGBTQ people. It was a 1970s movie that normalized LGBTQ people as anybody else who likes to sing and dance. >>215496182
I saw a theatrical screening with a shadowcast and it was the most surreal movie theater experience I've had. At the beginning the audience in the movie is standing up and singing my irl audience stood up and was singing too, so it was two audiences singing at each other and I was kinda drunk and felt crazy
The atmosphere was exacerbated by knowing that the people there didn't actually like the movie, they were just there because they'd worn out Rocky Horror but still needed what they were doing to be something related to it to feel like they were enjoying themselves

It's about "modern" or futuristic (for 1975, when Queen, Twisted Sisters, Bowie, Kiss, etc. got started, Grease is also from that era) rock and roll, older rock and roll/rockabilly -Eddie- and even older pop -Janet/Brad-, the type of relationships from one to the next, and also just homaging old B movies as the opening song thoroughly establishes. It misses the mark in how early we'd get there but it accurately perceived and predicted where faggotry was going, the crowd of party goers looks like a woke circus, it could be considered the first use of the rainbow as a fag symbol. It distilled the era perfectly like The Matrix did for the 90's. None of that is too important if you don't like the songs and the actors.

What actually happened is that the company that had been selling the rights to the Happy Birthday Song for decades was full of shit. So they promptly got sued into oblivion by every studio that had ever paid them for a song they didn't actually own.

Idiot.

He based his entire career and stage persona on Eddie and this song, even if you didn't care for this it led to absolute GOLD like the Bat Out of Hell albums. Were it not for Rocky Horror Meatloaf would have been a jobbing musical theatre actor getting only supporting roles, despite his talent and amazing voice.
