It really doesn't. From a cultural perspective almost all of the movies on your list are inconsequential now.

Yes, there will be a new Riddick movie.

Yes, Scott has made a Gladiator sequel that bombed.

Yes, Battle Royale is still a thing, considering video games.

And yes, Vampire Hunter D is also still an outstanding, beautiful genre movie.

Your idea that they matter comes from your own attachment to them that you likely formed right when they came out. This thread is about looking at the present (and the future), not the past.

I picked a mix of movies that fulfill entertainment standards, push technological advancement, possess cultural bearing; mainly a reaction to the common comment that there is nothing to watch anymore.
