I watched the entire prequel and original trilogy again, it made me realize that George Lucas wanted to tell story even if results were somewhat subpar in some ways but great in other ways, you can't deny he had plan to that story and have goal in mind to see it done. What Disney did to Star Wars is tragedy that can be described with words like apathy, disgust, loathing, anger and sense of lost. What went wrong to me is Disney had no plan or end goal to create story in mind, the mouse simply used dart board for ideas and called it day. The Star Wars saga is modern Greek tragedy and Disney didn't understand this at one bit. Now Star Wars is dead because of lack of vision, intense greed and life experiences to write stories. RIP Star Wars.
>>215500733Fumble implies it wasn't done on purpose. It was. They wanted to kill it and they did.
George kind of got the ball rolling with CGI Jabba the Hutt tho.
Wow, what a unique and novel opinion. Surely we've never heard this one before. Grow up, manchild faggot.
>>215500794Curious how you only react like this when someone is criticizing Disney.
Really the worst “fumble” was the lack of supporting media. I grew up with the prequels and even if you didn’t like the movies, they expanded the universe so much that the games and comics could flesh out the prequel time period. It’s been 10 years since TFA and we have like 2 Battlefront 2 maps that take place in the sequel trilogy and 1/3rd of Lego Star Wars 4. And one book, not including the novelizations for the movies. It’s just not enough to sustain a fanbase when your movies are just tanking their interest
>they killed based windu it's over
>>215500733Just give up it OP, Star Wars died long time ago. No need to dig up coffin. Let it go.
>>215500733"Ben Solo" was a big sign they didn't care about story or characters. Why did Han and Leia name their son Ben? Ben is a name Luke used for Obi-Wan, no one else called him Ben. Leia and Han don't have a connection to the character in the same way at all. JJ just loved the reveal of Han saying it. They cared about that, reveals and moments and not the big picture. JJ has never been a big picture guy. They needed a big picture guy. Lucas was that guy, and for some reason, they didn't utilize him.
>>215500781It really wasn't that bad. None of the special edition stuff was.
>>215501119He's my favorite too but it's for the best he stays dead, regardless of what Jackson says. He had a purpose, he served it well, and there's at least two dedicated books with which to see more of him. Can you imagine what it'd look like if Filoni brought him back in a show now? After all this time? There'd be so much to explain about how he came back, what he's been up to, and more importantly why he's chosen NOW to make himself a player in the wider narrative. Basically none of those questions would be answered, and if they were the answers wouldn't be nearly good enough to justify his return.
>>215500733Disney made cynical cash grabs without soul. But it was only possible because George Lucas fumbled the prequels so badly that nobody (not even himself) trusted him to make more Star Wars.He should have just gotten some competent writers instead of trying to write it all himself. A "hero falls to the dark side" story is not that hard to tell well, but its somehow the weakest part of the trilogy.
>>215500733>the take away for Disney is to have a plan next time before making moviesNever fails to make me laugh.
>>215500733It comes down to creativity of a single visionary vs a soulless corporate machine.
>>215503371I rewatched the prequels recently. I think the "turn to the dark side" part of the story works well enough if we keep in mind that the Emperor is using more than just his speaking skills to turn Anakain. He has telepathic, mind-fucking powers in addition, and is probably the one putting nightmares in Anakin's mind.In my opinion, the main weakness of the prequels is that a lot of the action falls flat, especially the large-scale battle against the Trade Fed/Separatist droids. The first one is in TPM, where the Gungans take on a legion of battledroids, and it's fairly boring because it looks like the Gungans are knocking over a bunch of action figures on a bedroom floor. The same can be said of the interminable battle between droids and clones on Geonosis in the next film. Every time these droids come out, we're basically watching an extended toy commercial, one that goes on for far too long. The lightsaber fights are acceptable, because they involve characters we know and possibly care about, and they advance the story, but "clones shooting droids for 15 minutes" is mind-numbing for the adult viewer.Still a lot better than the Disney shit, though.
>>215500766Why would they buy an ip and purposefully make people lose interest in it? Seems like a dumb business move?
>>215503674Humiliation ritual. People will see their stuff no matter what, so they know they can do whatever they want. They have so much money accumulated and more coming in from the likes of Blackrock that they can do this indefinitely, or at least until the movies actually make less than 20 million total. So far even their biggest bombs of the last ten or so years haven’t done that yet, so they have no real reason to be afraid.
>>215503674Jews are a schizophrenic "people."
>>215500733>it made me realize that George Lucas wanted to tell storyDid you come to that conclusion by yourself?
>>215500733Lucas never cared about the prequel trilogy . He just got the toy rights back from Kenner and needed to put out new charactersIt’s why the the scripts have some decent ideas but are lame and gay. He just rushed them out to make money . It’s not like he was working on them for years
>>215505069This.Star Wars was always just another glorified toy commercial for manchildren, primarily men and boys. Disney tried reinventing it for wine moms and girls, and they blew it.
>>215505069Proof?
>>215505069>the scripts have some decent ideas but are lame and gayThe scripts were kino, you're just a zillennial.
>>215501720Ben was their third kid in the true canon.
>>215503674>Why would they buy an ip and purposefully make people lose interest in it?To reinvent it for a new """modern""" audience (AKA glorified tax writeoffs + globohomo quota to apply for government bailouts & ESG points via Larry Fink).
>>215503674George started going on about (((Banking Clans))) and that was the end of it.
>>215505358Wasn't their third kid Anakin? Ben was Luke's kid.
>>215500733The prequels "have a plan" ONLY because the OT exists. The actual stories themselves are just as poorly planned and full of retcons as the Disney movies, and with a hell of a lot less of an excuse.
>>215505383>make the villain faction banks, trade enterprises and tech corporations>make the even bigger bad the corrupt government>the heroes are all religiousYeah, that shit was never going to slide. No wonder Disney's tried to hard to make the Jedi look like they weren't that great and erase their legacy, starting them at square zero with Rey.
>>215503674they aren't allowed to admit what they're making is bad, per contracts. everything anyone says has to be positive, or they're in breach of contract.
>>215505473>The actual stories themselves are just as poorly planned and full of retcons as the Disney moviesThe retcons in Lucas' Star Wars are not as plentiful or as world-breaking as the retcons in Disney's Star Wars: The Ride to Hell.
>>215505527midichlorians
>>215500733Even with the prequels and all the books and shit, Star Wars still felt like a single expansive world.Disney’s meddling has broken the illusion and it is just an obvious Mary Sue schlockfest. t.not a star wars fan
Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy and Driver's movie will save Disney.#maythe4bewithyou
>>215505535What's actually wrong with those? They're not the force, they're not stated to be the force, and their inclusion doesn't change a thing about how the force is shown to work in the OT. The force works through them. They offer an explanation for why some people have it and it can be passed down >see: my father had it, I have it, my sister has itand why others like Han or any rando can't use it even after seeing it in action. The force isn't made less mystical or more eugenically elitist or whatever by it. What would actually be world-breaking is if anyone can use the force, anyone at all so long as they believe in it even if they never did prior. THAT way of thinking is exactly what's happening right now thanks to Filoni, and it's every bit as silly as you might think.
>>215505336I'm literally George Lucas
>>215505535Midichlorians are ridiculous but if you're still believing it's as bad or worse than the Sequel Trilogy then you're suffering from Lucas Derangement Syndrome
