>final boss is a retarded version of Skynet
What the fuck were they thinking?

They really fucked up with the "villain" of the movie. Fighting against an AI capable of forging and falsifying any digital information instantly is a really interesting scifi concept, but Dead/Final Reckoning did almost nothing with the idea. It was in too much of a rush to the next action stunt to explore the notion.

The human villain was so lame. Solomon Lane and Walker (Cavill's character) were a villainous duo they could have reused. I would have said fuck it and brought Cavill back despite how ridiculous his survival would have been. All scarred up and may as well give him a robotic forearm. The only really good thing about the actual villain in the Reckoning movies was his arrogant final sneer followed immediately by that comical death

>Final chase is a retread of the helicopter chase from Fallout but less interesting and with a worse villain
This movie felt like a whimper after Dead Reckoning Part 1 desu

It was the half hour of exposition and flashbacks that ruined it.

What happened to the "if we kill the evil AI we kill the internet" plot?

The Entity felt like more of a threat in Dead. Then we get Final and the Entity can't achieve total world domination unless Ethan helps it. We went from it being a seemingly unstoppable force to it being a wasp sealed in a jar and Gabriel goes rogue and is the actual main villain (though the American government's inability to trust Hunt after he's saved the planet multiple times already plays a large factor).
They also really hamfisted the Phelps reveal, didn't feel natural. "My father died and I don't like your track record of insubordination so I'm going to assume he was framed and you are a bad guy."
Also Haley Atwell is a terrible actress.

Tom wanted to set up a Charlies Angels sequel series. Could of worked if he made his final act better but it didn't work out. He would have been Bosley/Kitrich to the girl team...

Should have dropped Atwell Cliffhanger style and killed Benji with the bomb in the first movie. The premise of the movie was based around that, you can't save everyone, it's his flaw. That should have been true and it makes a cooler Dark Hunt for the last movie. Then the last movie should have been a fakeout when it was connected to previous missions and it is revealed that doing that was the trick to help trap the entity. A final mask pull at the end.

Plane scene was kino but everything else in this movie was utter dogshit

I highly doubt anyone was even thinking when they made the last two films.

I love Cruise movies and he is a true master at his craft. I also believe he can't emotionally handle the idea of being replaced. I think the idea of anyone else getting as much praise or attention as him bothers him. There really aren't any characters in this franchise except himself and Ving Rhames. I don't think he even wanted a recurring villain with a memorable face and performance.

I feel like the newer these movies are, the less espionage there is. By this final movie, their interpretation of breaking and entering is basically a completely made up sci fi fake movie set with absolutely no concept for the audience to know what the fuck is going on. The last stunt I can actually remember is the falling train because we all understand the construction and layout of a train and therefore we understand the risks associated with the stunt.

The plane scene was cool. The submarine bit was impressive from a technical standpoint, less so from a suspense perspective.
