Wow this movie is actually garbage. My coworkers said the movie was garbage but I didn’t really believe it bc they are plebs so I was like oh haha guess I’ll see but damn they were right. How tf did this get good reviews. Why was everyone acting like this was some next level stuff with all that Jordan peele firing his people bc he didn’t get this script or some shit

It's so tiring: people complain endlessly about remakes and reboots and sequels BUT when something truly original and well-made gets released you people still are not satisfied.

Just watch The Brood instead, which is the film this one copied
>>

Only original movies can be good, but that doesn't mean they necessarily will be.
Weapons was a clunky leftist school shooting metaphor.
Sinners was racist agitprop.
OBAA was an antifa wetdream.
>>
The chasing scene at the end genuinely felt like a comedy sketch lel

It was barely funny and any attempt at humor pretty much killed the entire mood not that there was really one to begin with, like when the guy was just tossing the drug addict around. It wasn’t scary at all and you pretty much understand the entire mystery before the 30 minute mark. All the extra povs did was drag it out. And the chases and car chases are so run of the mill and unremarkable , I can’t believe you listed that as a positive. And the beginning music was so out of place, not even in an odd twin peaks way but in a did I click on the wrong movie way
>>
>>215501924
I found the naruto run kinda funny. Not a bad horror flick.
>>
>>215503822
>BUT when something truly original and well-made
Problem is the hyperbolic praise most of these movies get. It's 7/10 at best. From a technical standpoint, no flaws, acting is good, editing is good, story is servicable, but a movie is more than the sums of it's parts and this just doesnt deliver anything to warrant the praise it's getting.

And I find with alot of these movies, it's the narrative around the movie and it's allegory or subtext that gets the praise because it touches on subjects popular among left leaning critics (I am a left leaning person myself, so I dont fault them.) But the subject of a movie shouldnt give a film higher praise if the execution is less than.

I feel sometimes that critics desperately want to remain relevant and prop up movies that otherwise would have ran 2 weeks in the theatre and never talked about again.

>>
>>215504227
I don’t get it either. Seems like it’s just from the 17 kids missing in a night and the gun in the dream. Everything else literally has nothing you can even relate to a school shooting. Alex isn’t even some weird autist. Seems like one critic said it and it was implanted in all those “it follows is about stds” horror people

Honestly if you don’t get that the whole thing is an allegory for school shooting you might legit have autism

Clear as day. If you still don’t understand I honestly can’t help you.

The director literally put a giant gun in the sky to make it explicit too

>>
>>215501924
The script was far more satisfying to read than watching the actual film ill say that much.
There's just something about the way that the film is portrayed that takes the mystery and suspense out of it. I think it was the obsession with filming and showing everything happening in real time trying to follow the characters that deflates everything. Most of the movie should have been narrated in the third person, and it should have been like a creepy documentary.

>then we find out it's because he was sober and she fucked that up
>then we find out that the cop had been injected by a druggie and hadn't had any tests before having sex with the teacher
Every character and plotline reveals things like this in a really satisfying way.

That honestly makes more sense. The parents at the meeting yelling at the teacher trying to get her fired. No real police presence. Their abducter is some weird looking creature. She brainwashed ppl to attack normal people. Alex parents mindlessly getting brainwashed and going along with it too. The brainwashed kids become hyper violent

This is like a two hour movie btw. If your ONLY "evidence" is the giant rifle in the dream, and the set up then you clearly have already made your own conclusion and are trying(desperately) to connect dots to the conclusion you made up. How does the aunt being a witch connect to this theory? Or the teacher being an alcoholic? Or the 30 min focus on the drug addict?

I enjoyed this movie but I'm pretty sure Justine and especially Archer didn't accomplish anything in the movie and the plot would have moved forward the same way without them.
>James would have still broken into Alex's house and seen the kids
>Paul would still be pissed at James causing James to tell him where the kids are
>Gladys would still have controlled both of them and tried to leave town the next day
>Which would have prompted Alex to attempt to confront and stop Gladys
It would be one thing if Archer and Justine helped save Alex during the final confrontation but at best they just distracted Gladys and two of her zombies. At most, the biggest impact Justine had on the story was making Paul get drunk and cheat on his wife, which made him recklessly search Alex's house without reporting in.

>>
>>215505878
the movie failed utterly at horror or mystery for that matter, the director was too obsessed with muh cinematography at the cost of what the movie was supposed to be
posts like these who have a mancrush on the director like this are so obvious to spot
the truth is that all he's ever going to do is make outstanding scripts like these into medeocre films, i'm not really hyped for that
>>
>>215505998
I'm not arguing that they shouldn't have been included in the movie or anything, I still think they were important for the way the story was presented to us. I just think that, unless I missed something, they had very little impact on the actual outcome of the movie, and that could have been easily fixed with a few minor changes pretty much anywhere in the plot.
Feel free to correct me and tell me what wouldn't have happened without those two characters' actions.
>>
>>215504697
>director literally put a giant gun in the sky
Did you really get filtered this hard by a damn B+ grade horror film? Absolutely everything leans into substance abuse and family trauma. Everything. It's not hurrrr durr kids go missing so they where shot. It's more like trauma impacting everyone.
Main kid deals with it but carries on as if it's nothing. Even when parents are out of it. Later they last out at him but he still loves them. Aunt shows up forcing generational issues on her family. The wrap up of if you don't deal with problems they literally devour you.
Everyone bleeds black being they are dead inside. How easy it can spread from person to person. The relentless hunt, like going for a fix, of the principle played against the time line of the junky. A junky with answers but nobody cares being stupid junky is a junky.
Like holy shit no wonder capshit is so popular. Being mid wits like you see a gun flash (as in shooting being another type of trauma) and ignore EVERYTHING else and go yep guns.... I got it! Wow....
>>

This film has absolutely nothing in common with The Brood besides "children are involved"
>>
>>215504597
The film is actually an allegory for addiction. Alcohol, pills, drugs, whichever. The director has been extremely open about this. Gladys represents the family being taken over by an addiction, that alters the behavior of the parents, changes the relationships, forces the kid to become the person running the household, etc.

It has absolutely fuck all to do with school shootings.
>>
>>215504697

>>215504597
>>215504527
>>215504697

>>stupid witch bitch sending the puppet unit to steal hair instead of simply killing the nosy bitch ( makes no sense )
because killing her right outside the house using the mother who lives in that house might draw a sliver of attention upon herself? that's why she tried to off her with the principal instead, killing two birds with one stone
>>
>>215505939
This person didn't watch the film.
>>
>>215506761
If you're thinking like a human it can be a problem. Fortunately you have two puppets willing to do anything for you because ironically they have no will. So make them eat the bitch after killing her.
No body no evidence.
>>
>>215507011
You're an idiot
>>
>>215507011
yes, that would definitely leave zero evidence sitting outside the house you are currently hiding in, such a thing as "consuming an entire human body" is famously neat and tidy
the only reason she survived at all is because Archer was there, it was otherwise completely removed from Gladys with nothing tying her to the attack by the principal
>>
>>215506702
No? I babby can't be the hero. The hero is Brolin. You saw him walking away with his retarded bully son as the last shot of the movie. Hero shot. Masculine white man. Hero.

>>
>>215505943
Yeah, I guess they just distracted Gladys and get Paul drunk. Still, I wish the movie had just stuck with Justine. The mystery from her perspective was the most interesting to me. She also got what's his face, the principal, involved, but Gladys also got rid of him, so I guess that didn't really go anywhere either. Cool duck.
>>
>>215507706
Also no.
>>
Pretty enjoyable movie on the whole, but the humor really fell flat for me. It’s like a decent horror movie mixed with a zany YouTube skit from 2012. I found the ending chase sequence particularly self indulgent, it nearly ruined the whole movie for me with how lame it was. Though everybody in the theatre was laughing their asses off so I guess I’m in the minority there.
