I'm certain that the creature from the opening is probably a mutant offspring of Pennywise. The birthing of it and the broadcast on the car radio implying this heavily. Pennywise is also active as well and is most likely feeding it's child by luring victims and unleashing it as we saw in the theater. Different approaches will probably be the creature being too destructive and dangerous for Pennywise to continue. The books did have eggs, and I doubt they were just dropped now. Probably a snatched or exposed egg by the military.
