There is no point in watching this after first 20-min chapter with Rebecca Ferguson POV. That is the entire movie. If you continue watching, all you'll get is the exact same sequence of events, of the exact sametimespan - from the perspective of another federal employee. Nothing more happens, nothing more is added/revealed, the timeline doesn't move forward 1 second. Then it ends before anything happens or any decision is made.I hope you've enjoyed "A house of dynamite"

Plus like other anon said above it blue balls the viewer, nothing happens.I get the motive and philosophical idea of making a movie like that, but in practice its fucking bullshit.Would have just been a better thriller to space the nuke out, have all the players scrambling about like retards, have the nuke hit then them trying to piece together who hit them with a nuke.

>>215505827What's fucking crazy is that this is like the second or third role he's had where his character commits suicide, like he did in Mad Men. Type casting is bananas.
>>215502854Watched it, the movie pretty much resets 3 times, each "cycle" adding a little extra perspective, ever higher on the chain of command: grunt cycle, XO cycle, POTUS cycle. The third cycle was the worst because of how little it added compared to the previous, the movie just repeated itself at that point, that there was the worst part. The movie ends right before Chicago gets nuked and we get a miniscule glimpse of the beginning of a nuclear war actually kicking off, it was a blueball.I made the mental effort of ignoring the fact 90% of the cast was brown and/or female lol, which I hope is not reflective of reality?Despite everything I liked this movie, not great but enjoyable, it's cool to see what the cogs would do in such an event, all the procedures and military jargon. US military acronyms are porn, they make me jizz everytime I hear them, they're just so satisfying

>>215503338I read "Nuclear War: A Scenario" which is the book this movie was clearly inspired by, which goes into quite horrifying detail about what an actual nuclear strike on the USA and ensuing chain of events would look like, this movie basically stops at 1/3 of the way through the book. Such a waste of a film.
>>215507745when I first heard about this I assumed thats what it was, an adaptation of that bookit turns out its actually a rushed Netflix rip off of that bookguess who is going to be making the actual adaptation (assuming it happens at all now after this fiasco)

>>215507694>we all know that White Aryan Males are the only ones who can keep our country safecorrect
I'm a Bigelow Boy but this is her worst film. It doesn't work. Did no producer like watch it before it was finished?Imagine you're in a Microsoft Teams meeting with Paul, Linda and Brian. The meeting reaches its end, everyone logs off.>*Fades to black* >*Dramatic footage of an orca biting a shark in half*>*OMINOUS CHORD*>"Chapter 2: As above as below" >*Inception horn slowly fading*Then chapter 2 starts and ends with the exact same fucking meeting, but from Paul's perspective. That's literally what this movie is.

>>215502854This is the end result of /tv/ nowGet a good intro or couple episodes. Literally do nothing for the rest of the series/film. Leave a pointless cliffhanger that no one asked for and will never be resolved in any meaningful way ever again. But keep paying those Jews 15/m though
>>215518414Because it was likely North Korea that launched the missile. Hwasong-14 and Hwasong-15 ICBMs can reach, at maximum, the Great Lakes region.
>>215518518okay but why not LA or San Francisco or Seattle? Aren't those all way closer than having to fly over most of the US to get to Chicago?
If you want some good nuclear war Kino, skip this and Threads and go watch Failsafe, either the 60s version with Walter Matthau or the remake with George Clooney and Harvey Keitel.
>>215503338So it's Rashomon meets Failsafe then? Nothing wrong with that.
If you don't know who the president is in this movie, don't look it up or read any more of the thread and just laugh when it happens. That's the only decent memory you'll get from this shit
>>215518570calling it Rashomon is a disservice it's literally the same story being told through three different viewpoints, but the first one is the best and they get progressively worse
>>215518414Because the movie is retarded. If you’re launching a first strike you first detonate nukes high in the atmosphere to remove electronics (and you could probably stop there and win). Then you attack then enemies weapons, silos, airbases, ports, command and control centres, political leadership. Then you attack infrastructure and strategic reserves and finally cities. What would nuking Chicago get you, other than a thank you note and a bottle of whisky?
>>215518553My guess would be that the North Koreans, want to show that they have the capability that they can strike deep within the continental US. (which is where are silos are mostly located, and can wipe out an arm of our nuclear triade) But that's just a guess, the movie certainly doesn't make it clear who shot first. But I surmise that the NKs likely don't possess the amount of Hwasong-14/15 missiles to launch a mass strike against the continental US.
>>215518518Why not put at least two nukes each on two freighters, launch them off the eastern and western seaboards as EMPs then? How does launching one nuke at a nigger city benefit NK in anyway?
>>215518557Nah watch something decent and mostly realistic instead. The Day After comes to mind.
>>215518671Honestly, because it's a movie and they just want to show the middle section between when an ICBM launches and when the payload arrives at it's destination. As they state in the film, the NK regime is all about self-preservation and launching a single nuke as far away from the south-east Pacific (I assume?) would open them up to a massive conventional, if not nuclear counter-strike from the US.
>the nukes are coming in icbms! from the norks!it will be in a backpack or a truck and there won’t be 20 minutes to hem and haw
>>215518671Maybe they're still mad at Dennis Rodman
>>215508399No. American missile defense is designed to stop a single launched ICBM from a rogue state/accidental launch because that's all that's really possible, but it's pretty good at that. Look at how Israel did in its missile war with Iran, then remember that the Pacific is way larger and the US would have a lot more time. The really stupid part of the movie's portrayal is everything else though. They act like you can't tell where a ballistic missile came from, that we'd just believe Russia and China in a missile crisis, that we have to intercept it in the launch phase, and they fire the counter strike before knowing if it destroys Chicago.A real nuclear war scenario has fast response times (launch on warning, 10-15 minutes) because a massive first strike can destroy your arsenal and CnC systems in the ground, preventing a second strike and letting the attacker win the nuclear war. If there's just 1 bomb there's no real rush and at worst you just lose a city, it sucks but it's not the end of the American world. >What are they waiting forNuclear deterrence isn't achieved by missile defense but by missile offense. The USA has hundreds of warheads on submarines, stealth bombers, and missiles ready to launch on a hair trigger. If you try to nuke a nuclear power they can nuke you back, and your missile defense is just as shit (or even worse if you're Russia). It's called MAD: Mutually Assured Destruction. In practice it's like surviving in a street full of armed men by having a gun and armed friends who will back you up instead of trying to wear Ned Kelly armor everywhere.
>>215502854why not show everything like the book this is clearly based on did? Fucking blue balled movie why the fuck would you even bother im actually mad. At least the shitty book depicted everything until the end idk who's decicion it was to not do it properly

>>215508564She joked about her greatest challenge was being married to James Cameron or some shit at the Oscars years ago. Honestly the guy sounds exhausting.
>>215518970Quality post anon. What pissed me off is that they determine early, near immediately that it is both a singular launch and that it is not a directed decapitation strike. Thus diminishing the portrayed urgency of retaliation. What happened in the movie is essentially a rogue or terrorist controlled missile which would garner a wholly different response.>>215519111The Annie Jacobsen book Nuclear War: A Scenario portrays the exact same scenario as in this movie and made me think it was based off of it. She also does a very poor job.Ellsbergs The Doomsday Machine is the superior read.
I watched the first third and had enough. It's a somewhat realistic portrayal of an extremely unrealistic scenario. If you put your defence nerd hat on the whole premise absolutely falls apart.I'm guessing this slop has been on the shelf for a long time and finally someone got desperate enough to make it.
>>215518970>that we'd just believe Russia and China in a missile crisisThis might not be realistic, but the explicit purpose of the filmmakers was to make sure every single character was a rational actor (and my own added commentary, portrayed to be relatable normal people with normal lives). The point of this is to show that under these ideal circumstances, the nuclear-fight systems we have in place are still an incredibly difficult thing to navigate. The filmmakers goal is to make it so the audience cannot interpret the events as due to irrational actors. The biggest hawk in the movie, the STRATCOM commander, is introduced as a cool grandpa and when he explains the case for first-strike he doesn't come off as fanatical but rather as being what is basically a perfect professional doing exactly what he is supposed to do. The goal is to reintroduce the nuclear scare to society, which has largely forgotten that it's still a problem especially with insane shitholes like India and Pakistan growing their arsenals.

>>215502969Where are the Epstein Files retard conspiracy anon?
>>215526234. those are not thaad, retard, you have worked on my dick. thaad is for short and medium range missiles, for long range icbms you have gbi.>GBI (Ground-Based Interceptor) and THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) are two different U.S. missile defense systems designed for different phases of a ballistic missile's flight. GBI is a midcourse intercept system designed to destroy intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in the vastness of space, while THAAD is a terminal defense system designed to intercept short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles just before they hit their target, both outside and inside the atmosph
>>215526234retard, never again speak of things you don;t understand>the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system cannot reliably destroy Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) because they are too fast for it to handle. THAAD is designed for short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles and is effective only in the terminal phase, just before the missile reaches its target. ICBMs reach much higher speeds (over Mach 20) and altitudes during their flight, making them difficult to intercept with systems like THAAD
>>215526332But a guy in the last thread claimed that Mach 20 is not hypersonic somehow.
>implying the US needs nukesDont you guys realize we havent made a new nuclear missile in like decades? Its because the space technology is 100+ years ahead. We dont need nukes anymore.
>>215526385there are lot of retards on /tv/, it's annoying
GOD I FUCKING HATE THAT TYPE OOF ENDING FUCKING FUCKKKKKKKKKKKK HACK BITCH
>>215507985kek the 2-3 biggest "stars" of this mess didn't bother showing up for its premier

>>215525622I don’t need to. I can see a fat negress, which by definition is ugly. Seek help.
>>215526303Kek so they didn’t even depict them using the correct system in the movie?
>>215526786there was no thaad in the movie, so they put the right system in
>>215526385That speed is the speed of the mirv in its terminal phase which is not in the movie.
>>215526812The missile in the movie was sub-orbital.
just got done with it, it was pretty ass idkwish there was more of Becky in it, I only watch for she
>>215526825retard>>215526838it was an icbm you waste of air
>>215503182>Isnt that flick about them "killing" bin laden?>It is LITERAL burger (jew) propaganda."Waaaah waaah waaah! Why do you fight back when I try to murder you?!"
>>215526825IT'S LITERALLY FIRED FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE PACIFIC AND REACHES CHICAGO IN 20 MINUTES
>>215502854Didn't care about the nuke, give me a 90 minute political thriller with rebecca ferguson and jared harris or a 90 minute comedy with idris elba being the us president, he was really good
>>215528030he was really fucking weird, dunno... wasn't believable at all
>>215526896>what was portrayed in the movie didn’t happen!>obey my head cannonNo.
>>215527536It’s ok, you don’t know what a hypersonic missile is. That’s fine. I don’t know anything about dilators other that they exist.
>>215503249I want to make out with her
>>215528124The fucked up pacing ruined everything, ferguson was kino, harris was hilarious yes, that scene and elba made a great president, the hack bitch saved her ass with the casting, she even got jason clark do nothing for a few scenes lmao
So what did Obama II decide ?
>>215528521In the book it escalates to full scale WW3 and 5 billiion people die.
>>215528521Probably ordered a limo and some crack and went looking for someone to suck off.
>>215526896>starting 13m41s into the movie>Seems we have an update>current velocity indicates>that the object will go sub-orbital
>>215528823you are functionally retarded and illiterate, stop replying to me, I won't take the bait
>>215528918>doesn’t know what a hypersonic weapon is>rejects what happens in the retarded movie and replaces it with head canon The state of you. The movie was shit, deal with it.
>>215528328She's 74 now.
