It took months of training for peter weller to move and walk like a robot.

Is there a more egregious example of soul vs soulless?

I like many of 2014s ideas but overall the original had a much better execution.

Looks like what happened with Iron Man's armor.
>>
>>215507277
Months of training that were for nothing when it turned out that the suit was too clunky for fluid movements.
>>
1987 is still kino, while 2014 is pretty much forgotten.
The only thing I still remember from 2014 was where they actually showed what "full body prosthesis" actually means. That shit was good, and I think Verhoeven wouldn't have minded having something like that in his movie.
Otherwise 2014 was a forgettable movie.
>>
>>215509102

It wasnt supposed to be fluid movement, thats why it took months of training.
>>
>>215509211
He's saying the suit itself forced jerky robotic movements because of how it was made.

I wouldn't buy the demake for a dollar.
>>
>>215509102
Nah the problem came during the filming when in the suit it looked like he was rolling his haunches and ass like a hooker whenever the camera was behind him so they had to make it so all scenes had robocop either on the side or facing the camera. You never see him walking when the camera is behind him because of that.

Had the original Robocop never been made, the new one would've been an ok sci-fi flick. But because the 1987 one exists, it's hard to not view it as superior. 2014 was just the superficial appeal of the concept without any deeper meaning.
>>
>>215505668
Left, but right would still mog any modern take on Robocop.
Rogue City doesn't count as it was made by a fairly small studio with no pressure from the Hollywood machine.

>>
>>215505668
The answer is obvious but I will say the reboot was not nearly as bad as some make it out to be.
>>
>>215505668
The original Robocop is about an Operating System that is plugged into a corpse and gains self awareness taking on the identity of the corpse due to the strength of Murphy’s latent memories.
The remake is about a man who is badly wounded and turned into a brain trapped in a suit, with his free will removed, who has to learn to overcome his captors through his human willpower.
The different suits serve different purposes to show these different themes.
>>
>>215505668
Real answer

Robocop 1 > Robocop 2 = Robocop 2014 > Robocop 3

I haven't finished the show yet so I can't compare it.

I really don't get the whole "let's make it PG13 because it will make more money that way" it just makes people not give a fuck about the movie. Everybody remembers the chest-burster scene from Alien. Everyone remembers Arnold de-gloving himself to show his robot endoskeleton to Dyson. Violence can actually be incredibly important for the narrative. You REALLY don't want the alien face hugger to grab you. Why? You just saw wtf happens when it gets you. The T1000 is a really scary/threatening villain. Why? We see what it does.

I've never even seen Robocop (2014) and I don't ever intend to kek. Why? PG13 SLOP.

It was supposed to be a tease. Have fans get a little upset at the corporate goon saying their favorite robocop suit was too silly and needed to be tacticool. Then reveal the silver suit so fans could soiface. The director underestimated how much fans will jerk each other off into a foaming at the mouth seething rage just from seeing a few still images and not actually watching the movie
>>
>>215505668
Most people don't even know the 2014 version exists.
>>
The entire central concept of the original is the question of whether "Murphy" is really alive as Robocop or not. When you take that away you don't have a movie anymore, you just have a guy in a mech suit.

Thanks for enunciating that. The remake absolutely failed to capture how existentially fucked up Murphy is, and I don't mean in the "he got all his limbs shot off" way
The movie's script went far beyond the special effects to highlight that Robocop only has the most tenuous connection to Alex Murphy, he doesn't really have memories, he doesn't always have feelings, he lost a lot more than his flesh. Yes, it is in fact possible that he is entirely a machine that's LARPing as a guy that's entirely dead. That's why he's so godamn strange and autistic.
The whole "You could never be her husband again" thing isn't just about him missing his dick lol

2014 Murphy in comparison seems to have nothing mentally wrong with him. In spite of being reduced to a fucking severed head and some lungs, he's obviously 100% the same dude, existentially, that he was before he asploded. He could in fact pretty easily just go home and be a husband and father still, without much more complication than some asshole in a wheelchair.
>>
>>215513107
I remember that in the remake a lame explosion is what nearly kills him, but only because it's such an downgrade from getting several point blank gun shots

It's so annoying how they completely missed the point of Robocop's OG design. He's SUPPOSED to be kind of clunky and awkward. He's a first prototype hack job that barely functions as it should and has glaring holes in it's design (can't move fast, probably couldnt get itself up, cucked by stupid protocol, original face hastily slapped on top of robot skull). In the remake he's just sleek and perfect and could probably do all sorts of ninja shit, I dont know, I havent seen the remake and never will. Robocop is a perfect film that needs no improvement.
Except for maybe pic related

Weller worked with a mime and they initially developed a stylized fluid movement.
Robocop suit didn't show up until 20 days into production (they were shooting all the Murphy scenes up to then.)
Suit arrives, takes like 10 hours to get into the suit. Weller can barely move.
They bring the mime guy back in over the weekend. They tear out parts of the suit, redevelop the movements to be slow, deliberate, exaggerated.

The original because it felt like a prototype. The jankiness added realism to him. It's a shame because I really wanted Padilha to succeed in the international mainstream, but that's not his kind of movie at all. Mike Stoklasa saying that he's a literal who was understandable, but at the same time it was one of the many reasons to make him lose my respect for him. Being a self proclaimed film buff and not knowing the guy who made Tropa de Elite or probably not knowing the movie or its sequel at all kinda proves that he only watches Hollywood stuff and the meme mainstream international ones. Of course, Tropa de Elite is a meme Brazilian movie, but you get my point.
>>
Almost the entire reboot was utterly forgettable. The only memorable scene is when they take his body apart and show him that he's just a head and lungs and even his brain was missing chunks. If the whole movie was that good then maybe it would have been something special.

They didn't miss the point, you did. OG Robo is a commentary on 80's neoliberal reforms where corpos privatize everything, including police activity, and everything is for sale, including people's souls (like Murphy's). Nu-Robo is a commentary on an era of drone warfare and government overreach and the industrial-military complex, Nu-Robo is meant to be the industrial-military complex making strides within America instead of just outside, and the sleekness of his design and ninja level of skills is meant to reflect the argument in favor of these policies.

This doesn't mean the movie is particularly well made, just that you have a capeshit fan approach to the character.

Both suits work fine for the cinema world they exist in. The OG robo cop is this busted barely working cyberpunk like world. He needs to be chunky, awkward and silver. In real life a lot of tech was silver back in the late 80s.
The new suit was ok for a Robocop on a bike. The film is sooooo bad that honestly the suit doesn't even mater. Better to just go a new direction then try to force the icon level 80s look and ruin it with changes.

a reboot of robocop should have raised the stakes. he should've been a hero who saves the entire world or at least a very nice major city (that isn't new york, la or chicago or fictional shithole metropolis). he should've also had an incredible car, and also keep the partner aspect. today we hate on feminism, but forget that the original robocop had a female partner and she was brettygood. same goes for casino royale, the only decent bond movie, with eva green being with him for about 1/2 the movie, and she saves his life, but ppl still liked it overall.

same goes for a reboot of tron. cockburn was actually good in tron legacy. why isn't she in moar movies (that require a square jaw)
