For the single truth that everyone knows in their hearts. Herbert had an interesting setting with interesting ideas and great world building. But the story was only ever just okay, the characters were never very interesting or compelling, and no matter how much you try to build up such a mediocre base into a film, it's not strong enough to make a good franchise out of it.Dune keeps failing on screen because it's just not very good to begin with. When you think about how much you like Dune, you think about the parts of Dune you like - sandworms, genetic memory, spice trade, and so on. But you never really liked the whole production.
