Holy fucking kino
>>
the best film /tv/'s ever recommended me. it's an incredible viewing experience.
>>
>>215511152
It really is insane

Is this actually good or is it reddit 'good'?

I thought the prosthetics/makeup for the old guy looked really fucking bad and it makes me thing this sucks
>>
>>215511708
It's actually good.
Regarding the makeup on the old guy, you start out thinking it's goofy but you realize that it's an insanely kino decision from a cinematographic and metaphorical perspective as the movie goes on.
>>
>>215511748
Interesting. I like other Kurosawa movies so I'll give it a try.
>>
Its apparently free on Tubi so no excuses anyone who wants to watch some vintage Kurakino.
>>
>>215511082
It's just Gook King Lear.
>>
>>215511794
>vintage
IMO it's honestly aged really well. It rarely feels like an "old" movie
>>
>>215511818
Vintage isn't a knock.
>>
>>215511794
Best way to experience this is in cinema. If you see it advertised at an indie drop everything and go.
>>
>>215511082
Not even one of Kurosawa's best, but that still makes it a thousand times better than most other movies.

Did her pussy have magical powers?

Kagemusha appealed to me more when starting to adult. Ran was too stagey, overstated at times. Now I think the bleak ending is apt. He saw where humanity's going even in 1985.

Watch Kagemusha too
>>

She's married to the guy interviewing women in Audition.
>>
>>215512150
Korea remade this with Lee Byun-hun (No Other choice lead)
>>
>>215512183
the fucking balls on those pricks, japan should pay them another visit
>>
>>215511082
Yes Ran is supreme kino

Most pussies do.

It kinda is tho

I mean...

Bump

He has at least 8 movies that are better. Don't get me wrong, I like what Kagemusha and Ran bring to the table, but they obviously show signs of Kurosawa getting older and losing some of his skill.

>He has at least 8 movies that are better
Surely you can name them
>>
>>215513189
Stray Dog
Rashomon
Ikiru
Seven Samurai
Throne of Blood
The Bad Sleep Well
Yojimbo
High and Low
>>
>>215513347
>Rashomon
>seven samurai
>yojimbo
These are fine. Ran mogs the rest
>>
>>215513399
You're only saying that because they're his three most popular movies and you're a slave to the official consensus.
>>
>>215513455
No, then I'd include ikiru and high and low too.
>>
reminder: ran is just king lear, so the only way one could praise it more than other Kurosawa films is if they’ve never read king lear
>>
>>215513557
Ikiru maybe, but High and Low's still not at the forefront of normies enjoyment of Kurosawa.
>>
>>215513574
>ran is just king lear
It's too different. The characters and story are much less interesting than the play.
>>
>>215511758
I'll add to what anon said and say that I think it is overrated among Kurosawa films, but it is still wayyyy better than 90% of films. Plus it's in color and everything looks very cool
>>
>>215511082
For me, it's Kagemusha.
>>
>>215513574
>you HAVE to have read my britbongerino poetry!!!
Everything outside of hamlet was irrelevant.
>>
>>215511813
>asians once again improve upon the white man's creation
why do we admonish them so when we should be uniting to conquer the stars?
>>
>>215511082
>Let me destroy my empire based on a dream
>>
>>215513814
>>215513848
King Lear is probably the greatest play ever written. Kurosawa degrades it with every change he makes, it's impossible to improve upon perfection.
>>
>>215513347
For some reason I couldn't dig Throne of Blood, it just felt like a filmed theater production of Macbeth (but everyone is a samurai now)
>>
>>215511708
it's really good, seeing it in a theater was amazing

the makeup looks theatrical and weird in stills out of context, but it works in the film
