>>215515477it's more than just lampshading. that would imply they make a quick tongue in cheek reference to it and move on, but it's actually a critical part of the Doctor's character in several seasons and a major arc that has serious reverberations throughout the show. the Moffat seasons in particular. the thing is, the whole companion thing was a holdover of the show from the 60s-80s, and things were just different then and the character wasn't fully fleshed out. when they brought the show back, they couldn't just drop that because it's an integral part of the show's dynamic and you need a regular character to be the audience's self insert. but the writers are aware that it's weird, and that becomes part of the fabric of the character. he's not just some whimsical fairy taking these girls on a joy ride. he's a dark, toxic person taking advantage and putting them in danger for his own self interest. and that's the point. also you don't need to keep calling it pedo shit when all of the women he travels with are adults. it's weird, it's creepy, but it's hardly pedophilic. come on now.
