Pretty sure the 70s superman movie started capeshit. X-Men started modern capeshit.
>>
>>215515646
The Avengers started modern capeshit, and it came out right before the world ended.
>>
>>215515646
This.
Also superhero movies were still kind of good until Iron Man.
>>
>>215515727
The first Iron Man was good. 2 sucked.
>>
>>215515607
>one of the best movies ever
If you're 10 years old
>>
>>215515646
This. Donner’s Superman was the first big budget huge money making capeshit movie. After that Burton Batman movies, Blade, X Men movies, Raimi Spider Man, Dark Knight etc, etc
>>
>>215515795
t. 5 year old
>>
>>215515607
because no one understood why it was good
>>
>>215515733
Iron Man 1 was just ok. It was actually the corporate entity known as Marvel Studios' first film. But it was immediately followed by The Incredible Hulk, which was awful, and the next year, 2009 they were acquired by Disney.
>>
>>215515709
Iron Man 1 came out before Dark Knight
>>
>>215515607
I mean, it depends on how you argue for why capeshit is so awful now. It could be argued that Phase 1 of Marvel Studios started the obsession with interconnected universes, causing story problems.

After the DCEU, The Batman went into "self-contained" story mode (so far at least) and is one of the better received stories. Maybe superhero stories really are better when you don't ask "hey, what about those other demi-gods? Can't they help in this situation?"
>>
>>215515950
>It could be argued that Phase 1 of Marvel Studios started the obsession with interconnected universes, causing story problems.
This is definitely the start of the problem for me.
>>
dark knight hits a good middle ground of being over the top fantastical with how the enemy and hero behaves while still seeming like a true extension of the real world rather than the comic book one. i can't think of a lot of other scenarios in other capeshit where that's done well. people say the raimi spiderman was good but only in the metric of superhero movies, not in general.
>>
>>215516103
The Nolan Batman movies are pretty unique aesthetically.
It doesn't always work for me. Sometimes it's too self serious to the point of soullessnes, but there isn't anything else like it.
>>
>>215516232
i've always liked the general pacing of everything in them. the buildup musically and visually seem to all line up really well. idk how to describe it either but there is a synergy behind the zimmer musical elements that are super dissonant, and the need to do abrupt cuts. i guess unnerving is the real aspect that you miss out on in typical capeshit. the villains are just shown as ominous big intimating or w/e, it's more grand.
>>
>>215515607
0 for 2.
>>215515845
Let 5 year olds run the country then.
>>215516103
I'm not a huge fan of Riami's Spiderman (or most of what he's done since ED2 [the sequel to the 1996 hit film]), but it's so much better than the pile of crap that is the Dark Knight. Riami at least knows how to stage an action scene.
>>215516232
>pretty unique aesthetically
Lol.
>>
>>215516324
wow you sure convinced everyone of your point. you did a good job buddy. you totally shouldn't kill yourself.
>>
>>215515607
It just really isn't the best Batman movie. Heath Ledger isn't even a good Joker, which is disappointing since if Heath had a good director and writer behind him he probably would have been the best.
>>
>>215516316
They're definitely about a lot more than the Batman comics and the realism plays into that.

I like his performance, but....

Why bother convincing the rabble? They like shit, they live for shit, let them eat shit.
>>215516853
Nicholson played himself. Iconic, but I think Ledger chewed him out.

Why are you all ignoring Burton's batman?
>>
>>215515646
Actually technically Blade started modern capeshit
>>
>one of the best movies ever

Such an overrated fucking movie. Take out Joker and it’s basically a weaker version of Heat
>>
>>215515795
I hate both Nolan and capeshit but Dark Knight makes me fucking kneel.
>>
>>215515607
I rewatched this movie recently and I didn’t care for it. I thought it kinda sucked (other than the truck sequence, which was cool) and was 30 minutes too long.
I enjoyed myself much more with Batman Begins and I honestly think it aged much better.

Ledger played his version of Joker. Just like this almost exact part of the scene
>>
>>215516587
>Heath Ledger isn't even a good Joker
its more about establishing the first "supervillain" that would arise in response to "batman" creating a new environment for "crime." joker is just the closest parallel for this, and it redefined the joker
>>
>>215516931
Someone mentioned Superman itt thread too.
"Capeshit" started for me when superhero movies stopped caring about being entertaining movies, and started trying to be an interconnected multiverse instead of good movies in their own right.
Burton's Batman is an ok film.

It was my least favorite of the trilogy.
>>
>>215517497
Idk. I just rewatched the trilogy and Begins ended up feeling the weakest to me.
Used to feel the same way. Hated TDK for being too edgy.
TDKR is my favorite though

well yeah.
>>

Same. Despite its flaws, Bane is by far the best Batman villain.
>>
>>215517717
I like the chemistry between Bruce and Catwoman
>>
>>215517717
He's not the villain though. It's that chick.
>>
>>215517855
Brutally mogged by Keaton and Pfeiffer.
>>
>>215517717
>>215517640
It's bad and you should feel bad for liking it
>>
>>215517878
I like Returns a lot, but Nolan's realism kinda makes their romance more relatable to me.
Or maybe I just like Anne Hathaway idk
>>
>>215517898
Why do people think it's bad again?
It's like everything I could want out of a blockbuster action movie.
>>
>>215517867
>He's not the villain
Oh, I guess I missed something, was he actually a hero then?
>>
>>215515607
Do you also consider Transformers one of the best movies ever made?
>>
>>215517898
Fuck up, you normie faggot. You only think it's bad because it doesn't have le ebin Jokester as the villain being heckin' weird and silly.
>>
>>215518007
He was a glorified henchman.
>>215517964
You relate to their bad acting.
>>

Somebody get this hot head out of here

Idk when it became the consensus to consider superhero movies their own genre but it's dumb. The vast majority of them are just standard thrillers or sci-fi. This becomes super obvious when you imagine these movies with the main character wearing anything other than a superhero costume.
With that being said this isn't one of the best movies ever (not even the best batman movie released in the last 15 years lol) and it definitely didn't start the 'genre'. It had a hand in popularizing it I guess but marvel was already gonna do their thing regardless and there were prior superhero movies that had mild to moderate success.

Also heath ledger killed it as joker. I know its the cool take now to say he was shit because everyone jerks him off but he really was great.
>>
>>215518233
>Idk when it became the consensus to consider superhero movies their own genre
Because they became the bulk of what Hollywood shat out in the past 15 years.
>The vast majority of them are just standard thrillers or sci-fi.
No they're not. They're action adventure films. And so what? Why do all the action adventure films Hollywood makes have superheroes in them? Easier to just call them superhero movies, or capeshit.
>>
>>215515646
>X-Men started modern capeshit

1,000% correct. 25 years of goy slop dog shit going strong!!!

There are age limits to this board you know even if it is blue.

This piece of shit being botted to very close to the top of IMDB top 250 is when lost all respect for that list. If it wasn't botted by studio shills, its even more disturbing as that implies that most users of the site were absolute plebs.
>started one of the worst genres ever
True.
>>215515727
>Also superhero movies were still kind of good until Iron Man.
Arguably that is where modern capeshit started.
>>215515801
Prior to MCU, superhero movies were few and far between. Overload of capeshit started with Iron man.

jesus christ it's not even close to being the best NOLAN batman movie no less any movie ever

Lumping 'em into science fiction is insult to science fiction. Good science fiction usually makes readers and viewers think, superhero media is almost always easy to digest slop entertainment. Retarded popcorn entertainment in its purest form.

Fuck yourself.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008)

Pros!
> Norton is a great Bruce.
> Roth's performance is damn good.
> Tyler & Hurt are firmly good.
> Hulk visually looked great & intense, vastly better than the 2003 version.
> Chase through the village & confrontation in the factory was gritty, tense & well done.
> Battle on the college grounds was great.
> Final battle was decent.
> The mostly serious tone is personally appreciated.
> It feels very much like the same universe as Ironman (08)
> Music is very good.
> Handling the origin during the duration of the opening credits was well done.

Cons!
> Not much depth to Blonsky.
> Abomination's design is weak & nothing is done with motion capture to make him feel like Roth.
> Final battle is kinda small in scale & generic.
> Actor for the potential Leader was weak.
