It's sorta like doing impressions, it only works if you like the person you are trying to copy. For example, if you tried to reinvent Transformers to be a movie about humans making sentient transforming robots because you hate the idea of sentient transforming robots and want it to be more "realistic", then you are doing that out of spite and the audience will be able to tell, it just sucks the fun out of it. If you are doing it because you love Transformers and want to do something new and interesting to add new perspective to a franchise you adore, generally that kind of energy will yield something more interesting and better. Not saying this is a perfect example because the idea is stupid to begin with but you may understand my point. You see this in Japan all the time, they almost are slaves to honoring what came before in popular franchises, always making loving call backs and homages to popular stuff that came before because the people who work on these things actually like and care about the source material
It is pretty impressive how progressive leftoids both won their feminist culture war against male entertainment and struck a financial blow to these media companies with all these failing formerly male-skewing franchises (serving their anti capitalist ends). It's a win-win

Generally, or culturally I guess, the left is losing its dominance because instead of representing anything actually useful like making sure the average man can work a job that pays enough to live, they went all in on doubling and tripling down on propping up annoying brown gremlin people who are ugly and stupid and make everything worse just so they can have the right to yell at you without you being able to fight back. I think people generally are tired of ugliness and want things to go back to trying to be beautiful, it's just more inspiring. Pursuing ugliness can only ever be a brief trend. The left needs to let go of its ridiculous cultural jihad and refocus on something real if they want to win again, but they are too unwilling to give up on their investment rn, like sunk cost fallacy
