Anakin didn't need saving, he was the chosen one who brought balance to the force. Qui-Gon unironically knew this due to his deep connection to the force, he already did his job by starting his training

This way, Anakin goes back to Tatooine and doesn't become a Jedi or develop his force powers past a heightened intuition. Palpatine's plot goes on as before, but the difference is that when the Jedi decide to spy on him, they choose an agent who is loyal to their cause, rather than placing their faith in the treacherous Anakin. Since this other Jedi won't be fucking Padme and having nightmares about her death, the Jedi Order is much better placed to defend itself against Palpatine's machinations, and won't be set back by a surprise attack on the Temple by a powerful dark Jedi while their best warriors are occupied elsewhere.
