I watched a fair number of episodes back when it aired. It's good TV, but I honestly dont get the hype.

>>215531802First season is kind of low budget. Second season has regular budget, a bit melodramatic and too much teenage romance but it´s campy fun with a few strong moments. Third season is were the show really picks up. Characters start to become more rounded and actually grow into their roles, it also has the best plot and villain overall. I would say season 3 is peak Buffy if Buffy was a story driven show but i believe Buffy is more a character driven narrative and that it´s true strength is on character growth. After S03 the main plots and villains become weaker but character development becomes stronger (This is also the moment you start watching Angel in addition to Buffy because the spin off takes some of the characters with it, not to mention there is some interaction between shows)If you ask me, watching the characters go from who they are by Buffy S03 to who they become by the end of the respective shows is the reason to watch them but if that´s not enough for you let me tell you Whedon had some great taste in women. I mean, seriously.
