No. it’s a stupid limited release and i’m not watching a almost three hour movie in some shit art house theater. I’d see it at my major theater that’s got comfy recliners

>What if Frankenstein was a victim of society and humans are the REAL monsters??
shan't watch, I bet the screenplay was written by a woman
>>
>netflix
haha, no chance, fatfuck
>>
>>215533215
This. Even stage performances are good enough to have an intermission half way through. I'm not sitting through 3 hours, I can wait until it hits streaming. Besides, we all know the limited release is just so it qualifies for certain awards

Frankenstein? Written by a woman? Be serious

I have no idea why they not only pushed a severely limited release, but then waited until after Halloween to do a full Netflix release.

Fuck Netflix, I'll go sailing sometime for it when I have nothing better to do.

Only redditors enjoy that latinx's movies.

Im a big fan of the book but hate del toro. How much did he fuck it up? I love stop motion and PINNOCHIO but hated his whole Mussolini slop for Pleasure Island. Dudes a hack but I am interested in seeing this.

Jesus Christ, where’s the reboot where Frank turns HIMSELF into the monster so we can put this meme to bed. I guess narratively that doesn’t fit nearly as well as him getting killed by his own creating, but.

I'm aware that in the original book, it is the Dr. who is called Frankenstein. However, that hasn't been the case for over a hundred years now. In the original book, the monster is apparently also never described as green or with bolts, but that is basically the official Frankenstein look now. Sherlock Holmes also never says “Elementary, my dear Watson” in the original stories but its one of the things he is best known for. So for all intensive purposes, Frankenstein is the name of the monster.

The "WHYYYYYYYYYY!?" He delivers stirred some existential edgy shit I had gone on at that age. Parents had told me some shit about being ungrateful for being brought into the world and I replied with the typical "I didn't ask to be brought here!" like a week prior. Watching him deliver that line made me feel it. It's some core memory shit now.

Considering GDT hasn't made a single watchable thing in fifteen years, I have zero hope for it.

But, I would not be surprised if this got rave reviews just like that pos Nosferatu.
>>
saw it at local theater with $5 tickets.
Me and gf both hated it, for the same reasons. horrendous pacing. incredibly boring; there's zero momentum in the plot. felt like a five hour slog. aimless side characters. flimsy character motivations. says so little, squanders so much potential. nothing in the way of a musical score.

tons of things i could "cinema sins" but why bother. the overall plot lacked both stakes and thrust. the entire cuckold romance, drama with the brother, and dispute with christolph waltz' character could have been cut and it would have made no effect on victor's actions or behaviors. Like he has a big passage about how "love has changed him" but we are shown that it does not change anything about his motivations or actions, Waltz tells him there's a ticking clock on the experiment but there's no repercussions or change to the behavior of victor.

sets were nice. costumes were great. creature design was good on a technical level; Elordi did a decent job with the physicality of the creature as well. Overall the Actors were fine, they were just given a garbage script.

Why is Frankenstein such a perfect name for a monster cobbled together from bits
>>
>>215535862
Him being called Frankenstein is not inaccurate. Victor created him and creations are often named after their creators. Ford cars, Manson Jar, Jacuzzi named after investors Jacuzzi brothers, etc

It's not three hours, it's 2 and a half, you pussies, and the "art" theaters like Landmark cinemas also have reclining seats, beers, etc. Just go, you losers.
>>
Sounds like the usual Del Toro film. Fantastic visuals and production let down by the script.
>>
>>215533261
Reminder there was a long movie a while back where cinemas wanted to have an intermission but the director threw a fit about it.
>>
Oscar Isaac is great in it, kinda fiery and intense performance. On the flipside Jacob Elordi is very sullen and understated. Mia Goth is good. Christoph Waltz is just Christoph again.

>>
I really liked it and I think it’s my favorite GDT film. My only issue is that the ending and climax felt totally rushed and Victor saying he’s sorry and reconciling with the creature felt completely unearned as a result.
>>
>>215539251
I took it as more of a motherly affection. It’s clear that Elizabeth and Victor himself mirror his own parents. The Creature mirrors young Victor.
>>
>>215534000
Look, go in with lowered expectations and watch it because despite GDT being an insufferable soiboy, he is anti-AI slop and always prefers live effects. Ultimately, that is worth watching and supporting.
>>
>>215539274
victor changed his mind only after hearing the creature's story, which did make him stop seeing him as an "it" or a monster.

>>215539251

The monster takes his father's name, so the monster IS Frankenstein, however, the real monster is Dr. Frankenstein.

Haven't seen Del Toro's take yet, however, I thought the 90s movie with Robert DeNiro as the monster was actually pretty damn good. For some reason people don't think highly of it though.

Special shout-out to Junji Ito's manga adaptation that gave us this meme image in the early days of the interwebs though

>>
>>215541702
Meh, I will wait to watch it before I call it lazy. Then again, Frankenstein is a pretty short book so they definitely had to pad that bitch with extra nonsense to make it two and a half hours long.

I respect Del Toro's commitment to monster designs, but his actual film work is slow as fuck for what it is. It's one of the reasons I'm glad they keep blocking funding for his dream project of At the Mountains of Madness. While I think he would do a fucking stellar job with the translating the Elder Things and Shoggoths to film, everything else will be kinda shit. Pretty shit, but still shit.
>>
>>215533143
In the book Victor is a whiny little faggot who never shuts the fuck up about his sorrows. But he also is the sort of soft, sensitive, boy band poster heartthrob that teen girls (like the author) are always obsessed with, unlike the middle-aged ugly Mexican.
I walked out after I saw the scene where Victor has the Monster chained up and is beating him with a stick. What the fuck? In the book, Vic runs away after creating the monster. He hides in his room and then gtfo
del toro is a hack, his version will never topple James Whales' far more inaccurate but much more iconic adaptation.
>>
>>215541952
I generally love his movies and nobody does Gothic aesthetic as well as Del Toro but I'm fucking bored to tears with Frankenstein.
Holy shit can we just adapt something that hasn't already been adapted a hundred times already.
