The main girl's deceased father was a comic book artist who designed an avenging angel character for his daughter and she ends up taking up the mantle to defeat Art. Basically the pure love of her father is the only thing that can defeat Art, the demon. There's also references to Mary and such in a dream sequence, I believe. I only saw these films once a year ago, so I might be getting a couple of details wrong. The director is also Italian American (I've pointed this out in other threads). I'm Irish Catholic and went to Catholic school and I just recognize the aesthetic of Catholicism in the film. It's a very blunt good vs. evil storyline. Brutal as hell, of course, but that's in line with Catholicism, which is a brutal, dramatic form of Christianity compared to the typical Protestantism most Americans are accustomed to. I talked about this in depth last thread so I don't want it to sound played out. Bottom line, the director is a stereotypical east coast Italian who likes gore effects, and likely his cultural upbringing led to him including Catholic themes in these movies.I like that the evil characters are actually shown to be peak evil and the movie doesn't pull any punches in that regard. It's like watching a cartel video and seeing how terrifing true evil really is. I think a lot of modern media depicts evil characters as sympathetic, and this is as far away from that as possible, which I actually think is a morally good message. Evil is bad, what a novel idea.

I'm gonna leave it with this: I never was a fan of the Saw sequels, because to me, they just seemed like endless human suffering. An excuse to watch "deserving" (more moral hypocrisy) people scream and suffer and die, humorlessly. With Terrifier, there's always a wink at the audience, "hey, this isn't real, we're having fun," and they take the gore to such a ridiculous extent that you can't help but be reminded of this constantly and you end up laughing at it, because if you have a functioning brain, a modicum of intelligence, and a healthy understanding of irony, you get the "joke."
