Lmao, movie had been thought lost for decades and I'd been hoping to be able to see it for about 20 years. Half the scenes in the trailer aren't in the finished movie, which had hardcoded Danish subs, lol. What an experience.

very overrated. riding on a long prestige tail by virtue of being a common rec entry level film for initially making a splash being "taboo" back when it had less competition among viewer access. same with Ichi and Audition though with more merit. so many far more deserving J-kinos.

Rewatching this and man, it's a shame how they dropped the ball on the remaining "Years" entries. '99 only had the one good segment from the Deadstream guys, maybe Flying Lotus' segment if you're generous. And I cant really remember anything great about '85 outside of Dreamkill, with that falling apart pretty hard by dropping the found-footage angle.

>>215546465
There's still plenty of that, though personally I found Halloween to be my favorite of all the Shudder VHS films. I found it to have the best batting average in terms of quality shorts, with "Fun Size" being the only weak entry for me. Maybe I'm just biased because I like this series, or maybe I need to rewatch it to form a second opinion, but I enjoyed the mix of gross out elements, practical effects, and a standout grounded segment in the form of Kidprint.

That's just how it is with these anthologies, one man's favorite is another person's least. At the very least the first VHS is charming because of the unique sleaze factor is had and because it kickstarted the entire series, but outside of the first and last segments I wasn't really that into it.

I found 2 to be a lot better than 1, but that may just be because I never got the hype around the Siren segment.

>>215548093
This one is frustrating because the first two segments are among the best of the series while the latter two segments and the shell story are pure garbage. You might as well turn it off after the funeral segment (which may be my favorite from the franchise).

I'd say act 1 either ends in the bedroom after the werewolf attack or later when the sisters have their falling out after dinner. the second act is then Brigitte investigating lycanthropy and Ginger becoming more sexual. the second act could end in the high school after Ginger has her touching herself, fireworks moment. Or the second act goes until the monkshood discovery and the third act starts with Brigitte locking Ginger up. This third act would end with Ginger injuring Sam and the fourth act is the ride back to the house and the end battle.

NGL to you anons... I definitely think the threads are better when I'm OP. I know people will get assblasted about me saying that, but the state of this shitshow right now is evidence enough that other people aren't up to scuff

>I definitely think the threads are better when I'm OP.
Everyone that makes these threads thinks this about themselves. You aren't special here.
>>
>>215552296
I always strive for a good mix of iconic screen grabs, underrated but high quality horrors, identifiable posters, and just general spooky imagery. Maybe there's a few choices that are less than some of my other choices sure, but I try to keep it tonally consistent with what we've had over the last 10 or so years....

Obviously I'm not the only anon that does this. But it feels legitimately like it's been me and 1 or 2 other dudes holding the fire this season. Really fucking lame.

The difference is (You) are new and it shows very obviously though. It's not so much that I'm special. It's that you are shit.

Every year there are some tourists that hang around and spam nonsense or try and make the general their playground. But this year is a rare one where it feels like they actually won.

>>
>>215552422
You cannot seriously tell me that a headshot of Amy Harper from Funhouse justifies being an OP of /hor/ 2 days down the barrel from Halloween. Sure, you can pull out all your "u mad XD" cards and lay em bare, but why do you even come here if you don't give a shit at all about the discussion fostered. There are always going to be dud threads throughout the season, that happens literally every year, but this year it feels like only about 15-20% were any good. And since there's only 2 days left I think it's a pretty fair time to make that assessment. Apologies if me expressing that I'd like to see a reversion to the norm by next year angers you so... it really isn't something to get worked up about either
>>

Despite their extreme subject matter, his films always seemed far less unhinged and spiteful than his contemporaries. Fulci seemed to like capturing the beauty of violence and death, something which other Italian directors would use as an excuse. He seemed like he had fun making movies.
