>In the winter of 1974, filmmaker Werner Herzog walked from Munich to Paris on foot over three weeks to visit his friend, the film historian Lotte Eisner, who was seriously ill. He believed the journey would be the only way for her to survive and documented the experience in his book, Of Walking in Ice. Eisner did recover and lived for nine more years, though it is unknown if his walk was the reason.
>>
>in the cold and shivering winter of '74...
>>
I bet he felt pretty fucking stupid after doing that lol
>>
>Werner Herzog talked about playing Halo 2 on Legendary difficulty and how both he and his editor Joe Bini started smoking again during the difficult playthrough.
>“It was like looking into an abyss,” said Herzog as he played the level Gravemind. “Covenant aliens are always like an abyss.”
>“But,” Mr. Herzog said, “that is how I knew it was potent material. Both Joe and I had given up smoking, but it was so astounding that we had to stop immediately and rush to buy a packet of cigarettes.”

Insane. In American terms, that's like walking from New York to San Francisco.
>>
>>215547499
NY to SF is like 6 times longer than the OP picture
>>
>>215547222
Why didn't he take a train and just walk along the length of the train cars?
>>
>>215547222
Feet status?
>>
>>215547222
am I having a stroke?
>>
>>215547222
It says 176 hours on the map. Was Werner taking the piss with this 'three weeks' malarkey?
>>
>>215547499
More like walking from Munich, ND to Paris, TX
>>
>>215547573
he had to stop to eat and sleep from time to time too, you know
>>
>>215547573
If he walked ~13 hours a day, it checks out
>>
>>215547499
how long would it take me to walk across the united states all alone?
>>
>>215547499
No it isn't you fucking faggot, it's only like 350 miles. That's like walking from San Francisco to Los Angeles
>>
>>215547634
3 hours (that's how long it would take before you got shot)
>>
>>215547555
you don't understand distances in Europe, at least insofar as it pretains to travelling on foot. The landscape and geology is completely different from that in America. Europe has ancient natural features that break up "the grid" and prevent direct travel. There are no straight lines. The routes are long and circuitious, walking in Eruope is more like an adventure than a commute. Lookup the coastline paradox. Munich to Paris really is comprable to New York to Los Angels.
>>
>>215547659
when the world caves in what you gonna do?
>>
for me it's Walking From Munich to Berlin [1927]
>>
>>215547669
The route in that Google maps screenshot looks like a pretty straight shot to me. Did yurop not develop paved roads until after 1974 or something?
>>
>>215548122
considering what was going on around there from 1914 - 1945 there's a good chance that some roads weren't made until after '74
>>
>>215547655
>No it isn't you fucking faggot, it's only like 350 miles. That's like walking from San Francisco to Los Angeles
>its the "I will flex my google maps app" episode
>>
>>215548267
And even if there were
paper maps were fucking unreliable back then because they kept building roads everywhere

There's a fucking desert in between Caifornia and New York you complete retard, not to mention mountain ranges, a huge fucking river (the Misssippi) and nigger neighborhoods.
The OP even shows a direct route you can take now, although I don't know if Herzog too that route or it existed when he did.
Even walking from NYC to Newark is complete garbage, and that's 1 bridge of separation.
I don't know if you're a stupid American or a retarded Euro, but the continental states have some of the most variety in climate and geography of any country on the earth, since they extend through almost every climate zone. If you include Hawaii (hard tropics) and Alaska (arctic) it's basically every type of climate you can have.

Why would someone from NYC ever want to go to LA?
>>
>>215550649
>I'm New York City born and raised, but nowadays I'm lost between two shores.
>LA's fine but it ain't home; New York's home but it ain't mine no more.
>>
>>215547222
how were the border controls there before schengen?
>>
>>215547625
No it doesn't.
>>215547573
176/21 gives a little over 8 hours a day. That's a fucking long time to spend walking every day. Because he's Werner, he probably took breaks. So it was probably a series of 2 10-hour days, followed by a rest day or two.
>>
>>215550802
Very loose

The only real borders controls were around the Eastern Bloc
>>
>>215547573
How many hours can you walk in a day during Winter?
>>
>>215550649
Why would anyone want to go to either city? I live 60 miles away from NYC and never want to go there, it's like hell on earth.
>>
>>215547669
it's impossible to walk across America without committing countless trespassing crimes. you would otherwise have to take highways where you'd eventually be arrested for walking on them.
>>
>>215551247
Probably the same as any other season. Just depends on if there's snow on the grown, precipitation, etc.
>>
>>215551324
Why do you live so close to the largest US city if you despise it so? lol move to rural Oklahoma.
>>
>>215551407
The North East is a beautiful part of the country.
>>
>>215551440
Is autumn, the fall, your favorite season?
>>
>>215551455
Not the original anon, but in a similar situation.
Spring is the best, time for gardening.
NYC is just too fucking dense and packed. Claustrophobic.
>>
>>215547499
That makes sense, because Europe is 1/10th the size of America.
>>
>>215547634
Coast to coast it is 4500 kilometers, so at the average walking speed it would take you three months. It is a great idea for a trip, USA is beautiful.
>>
>>215550750
Neat.
>>
>>215551377
So Americans don't have right of passage through agricultural fields/properties?
I was just in Holland where they had the opposite extreme - you had to allow people to walk through your pastures with animals herds, seemed dangerous as fuck.
>>
>>215551407
I live in NJ because my kid is here. I moved to SD and the dumb cunt I had a kid with wanted to go back to nj and kidnapped my kid then took me to court. Now I have to live here to see her. Ironically I ended up being her primary parent because (surprise surprise) dumb cunt couldn't take care of her. Thank you for visiting my blog.

In America you can get shot just for going to fucking school. What do YOU think?
