>horrible digital photography, dubious lighting, and bad CGI>soap opera tier dialogue (some of it so bad that I refuse to believe it was lifted from Shelley)>Oscar Isaac, one of the best actors of his generation, gives a completely undirected performance, flailing and gurning>as always, the monster dindu nuffin (didn’t it murder William and Elizabeth in the book?)Aside from the predictably impeccable production design and Elordi’s performance, this film was completely pedestrian and underwhelming. What the fuck?? I thought this is something that Del Toro has worked at and thought about for decades, why is the direction on the level of a high school play? An interesting contrast for this film is Eggers’ Nosferatu: both are idee fixe passion project classic horror remakes, with roots reaching back into the physically meticulous writer-director’s childhood, yet Nosferatu -- which is by no means a perfect film -- completely mogs Frankenstein and succeeds in all the things this film failed at.

>>215551970>didn’t it murder William and Elizabeth in the book?it also killed Henry and framed Justine for murder so she got executed
Does he tie fascism into this in any way? It's just funny how he always has to do it at this point.
>>215551970>horrible digital photography, dubious lightingCould probably be the Netflix model. Their productions always have restrictions towards the grading and cameras.
>>215551970Del Toro is a bad director who got by on his unique visual style for monsters. His writing and direction has always been pretty shit.
Claiming the Monster dindu nuffin ruins the entire thesis of the book. The whole point is the Monster starts off innocent, but learns from its Creator how to be evil - paralleling the tragedy of the Fall of Adam. It's why the Monster is sometimes directly called 'Adam'.
>>215551970only autistic whites and jewish men know how to make movies anymore.
>>215551970I’m bummed Eggere didn’t finish this
>>215551970del toro has 1 (one) good film
Will never be topped coming through
>>215552291Egger's movie would've definitely have Elizabeth banging the creature
>>215551970Any adaptation that tries to absolve the monster AND makes Frankenstein actively evil automatically fails. The sailor himself calls the monster out on his "woe is me" bullshit once they meet
>>215551970whenever you hear a story about a director trying to get a movie made for ages it is always terriblesee also>mute >The man who killed don quixote
>>215552491Truth. King Kong was Peter Jackson’s passion project and it was total ass. Superman Rerurns was Singer’s passion project and it was ass
>>215551970Until this thread I thought this was the same director as Nosferatu.
>>215551970>as always, the monster dindu nuffinWhy do all these writers misconstrue Mary Shelley’s story all the time?
>>215551970>Overproduces sets that added nothing to the story>Adds characters that could have been completely cut out>Every animal was CGI >Gives actors a barebones script that they clearly struggled to work with>Victor has a similar cartoonish plot armor as the monsterIt was a boring slog that felt longer than it was
>>215551970>why is the direction on the level of a high school play?FUCKING THIS
>>215551970Didn't mind Isaac's performance and the twist of making the monster more sympathetic, and generally I didn't have a problem with the dialogue (except for William's last line being "you are the monster), but I will give you the point about the CGI. It was shockingly bad.
>>215553964Disappointing. I expected the movie to be shit but I thought atleast the visuals would be nice
>>215551970I wanted more of the Danish sea captain and his crew stuck in the ice
>>215551970Eggers' Nosferatu was complete fucking garbage. I can't imagine this will be any worse than it, even though I'm sure it will also be garbage.
>>215554217Nosferatu atleast had really cool cinematography and visuals
>>215554019>the twist of making the monster more sympatheticIt's fucking Frankenstein, the monster being sympathetic isn't a twist.
>>215554217Both are boring and awful, Nosferatu is by far the better directed film
>>215551970>dubious lightingwdhmbt
>>215552177the monster didnt learn to be evil, especially from frank. i guess you can say its what happens when left alone but the monster is smart and had good experiences like with the farmers. he more than smart enough to understanding freaking people out with your monster appearance out of the blue is going to end badly. he just doesnt care and decides to start killing innocent kids to feel betterthe monster shouldnt even be looking up to frank as a father figure, hes fully intelligent and only barely even knew who frank was, having seen him for literal seconds before he ran away and the monster had to spend years tracking him down or something. the monster is as justified as if you, in real life right now, decided to go out and strangle random kids you found because a girl you asked out turned you down. there is nothing good about the monster in the book and nothing evil in frank.
>>215551970GDT had a good balance of story + style in Cronos + Pan's. He's shot his wad since, and doesn't show deep interest in the different themes/era he plumbs except as excuse for production design. The older idea that a director needs to be solid in several different arts, given mubis = 7th art, is long gone probably after MTV's "revolution". The most basic of dramaturgy is gone.
>>215554595The monster was shaped in real time as he was treated, but he took the higher road relatively speaking. Yes he was orphaned as nature's abomination
>>215552339>del toro has 1 (one) good filmpacific rim
>>215554758hes an evil asshole. the more he learned about the world and himself, the more evil he became. he should have been doing the opposite since you want to treat him as an innocent babe. frank on the other hand put his own life at risk and those he loved because he couldnt bring himself to knowingly bring more evil into the world (the monsters bride)he wanst playing god when he made the monster, he was just goofing off and experimenting for fun and then accidentally made a monster which is why he got so freaked out. imagine if your cum sock stood up one day and starting talking to you
>>215554824>he wanst playing god when he made the monster, he was just goofing off and experimenting for fun and then accidentally made a monster which is why he got so freaked out. imagine if your cum sock stood up one day and starting talking to youImagine being as retarded as this poster.
>>215554595What film is this clip from?
>>215552271Can I get a style check?
>>215554250Del Taco literally made frankestein kill elizabeth and the monster literally dindu nuffin, he doesn't even try to kill anyone, he WAS monster in the book.
>>215551970Critical Drinker liked it and I trust him more than you
>>215557097>he doesn't even try to kill anyoneHe literally killed Victors brother a bunch of farmers and sailors also some CGI wolves
I thought he was against cgi
>>215552058>born in Mexico>sees crime and decay every day>his own dad is kidnapped by the cartel>still cries about fascism that never existed in his country.what's his problem?
>>215551970gord they had to get Mia Goth in on it. I was expecting something more to do with the original in back and white. And they pissed me off with puppets and horror like Poor Things.
>>215557097He was a blank slate in the book that grew to be a monster because of neglect and anger towards Victor. Making home le good is just weak. He’s neither good or bad. Just a mistake thst never should’ve been made
>>215557273he is a limousine socialist
gizmo has always been a hack. Spanish movies are shite overall discounting some horror. Spain is literally the Philippines of the West
Also del taco cucking frankestein making his girl being into the monster, he wanted a mate in the book
expecting del taco to make a good movie after pacific rimmed keke
Funny how in 80s had this sci modern Frankenstein twist where the monster retains the memories of his last life. Robocop for example. Be interesting if they did an actual Frankenstein melodie where he starts remembering shit from who’s ever brain Victor put into him
>>215552380and also showing a big fraken cock for a few mins
>>215557466>montage of victor spending weeks looking for larger than large cocks to fit his creature
it will probably win multiple oscars and its the first good netflix movie ive seen
