I'm planning to see this classic for the first time.Is it THAT good ?
>>215553744I thought it was good, but not the super amazing musical masterpiece it was hyped up to be. There are much better musicals out there, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly, to name a few.
Very good, VERY funny, deliberately so.The only mark against it would be that it haspick and chosen its songs from older musicals.
>>215553744Yeah, it's great. Fun, funny, cute, great music, looks fantastic, even an early example of postmodernism in film. Enjoy it, quite a treat.
>>215553780Sleeping on The Music Man and White Christmas in those classic recs. I'll even throw out a curve all, the Martin & Lewis vehicle Artists & Models, featuring a young Shirley MacLaine (rowr!)
>>215553744No, it's one of the gayest movies ever made despite not having any gay people in it.
>>215553744Somehow the best sections have NOTHING to do with the plot. I swear if the whole movies was in the this expressionist set it would have been so much better. >>215554065Retard
>>215554060for me? Paint Your Wagon
>>215553744I thought it would be some gay shit but it was actually decent and made me laugh a few times (meaning exhale sharply and smile a bit).
I was always a fan of Brigadoon and Cyd Charisse
>>215553744Nah
I like calamity jane
Where my Seven Brides for Seven Brothers chads at?
>>215555550sorry I'm a Meet Me in St Louis chad
>>215553744Worth the watch for the Make 'em laugh routine alone. Great musical.
>>215553744Yeah it really is
>>215554128this guy was insanely talentedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuOJ82bAH0A
>>215553744the dialogue is whip crack, it's got so many subtle jokes every time I've seen it I laugh at something new
>>215555550Outside kidnapping wives.
>>215556066The song "Make 'em Laugh" (one of only two songs in the film that was new) is famously stolen from a Cole Porter song that was in a Gene Kelly musical four years earlier:> https://youtu.be/S9250pY6wfQ?si=aaHGimUO6xfKG3kj&t=29The songwriter for the film was also MGM's chief producer of musicals (and to some extent the point of the movie was just to get him royalties for songs he wrote before he became a producer), so nobody said anything, and you can't actually sue someone for a soundalike tune if it doesn't have the same notes, so Cole Porter didn't say or do anything.
>>215556066I hated that part
