Wait, is this real?
I thought it was just an in-joke, "Homer is poor, but lives like a millionaire"
>>
it was, yep
>>
Didn't Homer borrow the money from his dad to buy the house and mortgaged it three times? They were always living above their means.
>>
>>215555570
They don't, they literally sold Abe's house and sent him to a nursing home six month later. Watch the thread go to 100 posts without acknowledging this fact.
>>
>>215555621
Sound pretty realistic
>>
>>215555570
A house like that in a nowhere town in a flyover state costs $100,000.
>>
>millennials run jokes into the ground
>but also check out this post about me taking a sitcom super seriously its the best frfr
>>
>>215555570
>Hoomer works at a nuclear power plant in safety
There's entire episodes about how he should be college educated but slipped through the cracks
Grimes fucking rolling in his grave
>>
>>215555652
What are you even talking about, you retarded fat fuck? I'm gonna brick in your goddamn mouth, I swear.
>>
>>215555570
My father thought I was a joke and helped my sister with her off spring. Reality check people are out of form for each other. Makes money constipated to work with.
>>
>>215555570
Homer Simpson is a nuclear powerplant engineer. It's literally the highest-paid blue collar profession there is. They earn like $100k a year, and sometimes considerably more if they've got seniority.
>>
>>215555686
>>215555717
Homer doesn't make much. Of course his house is also a shithole. The walls are thin, it's on irradiated land, there's mold and heavy water damage, etc.
>>
>>215555717
Is a powerplant engineer even considered blue collar? Don't you need a college degree for that? Feels like if thats blue collar then so are architects or geologists and similar jobs that aren't strictly constrained to a cubicle or office.
>>
>>215555740
Also Springfield is clearly a dump if fucking bears are wandering into nuclear plants
>>

>>215555641
Anything after S11E5 is noncanon
>>
>>215555789
They didn't have a tiger problem merely because Lisa carried a certain stone with her. Just totally ludicrous.
>>
It is implied that Homer was making $5/hr.
In the episode with the sugar truck, he exclaims that he made (found) a (one) dollar!
To which Marge responds: "But by going to work you could have made FORTY dollars!"
I know that /tv/'s collective IQ is room temperature on a good day, but it doesn't take a Lisa-level intellect to do some simple division.

Adding everything up over 40 hours 30 years ago, Homer made $12/hour. Adjusted for inflation that's the equivalent of making $25.50/hr today. That's a decent wagie wage especially if you live in an area of the country with a low cost of living.

What are you talking about? You're going to get properties from your grandparents (4 of them), parents (2 of them), you're going to be a millionaire. I don't understand what Americans are always whining about when they all have families they're going to inherit some extremely expensive shit from.
>>
>>215556198
Less than 40% of people are employed so your median salary is actually $12/h and you are just ignoring the majority of people.

>>
money is worthless. we only agree on its worth because we agree
>>
>>215556338
>I don't understand what Americans are always whining about when they all have families they're going to inherit some extremely expensive shit from.
I also hear Americans talk about boomers just giving all of their kids the finger and either spending all of the would-be inheritance on vacations or just putting them out of most of it in general so I wouldn't be too sure about that.
>>
>>215556591
Rare cases where someone was enough of a cunt to get disinherited probably, and even then they can sue for it.
>>

Boomers already cashed out on those properties and blown them cruises, vacations and tropical retirement communities

$48,900 a year AFTER taxes in 2025 dollars. Or roughly $4000 a month to live off of... considering shit was cheaper in 1989 that's not terrible. Add in they live in a small town in 1989 and that's definitely middle class living.
>>
>>215556402
Its a S3 artifact that's in a few episodes, like the school steeple. There's some stairs in the back corner of the car hole near the door.
>>

And the houses went where? Where's your mom? Grandparents? Uncles/aunts?
>>
>>215556693
I actually know a few boomers who take pride in not leaving their kids any money. But it's more they talk about it like it would be a crutch for them and they don't want their kids to be lazy, like they are doing them a big favor in the long run.

The only members of those 6 you listed that have any property to pass along are my maternal grandparents and their condo is going to either my loner incel uncle (the only boy they had) or being sold and split between their 4 kids (one of whom is my mon) and by the time it trickles down to me I doubt there will be anything left considering I have 3 siblings myself.

You underestimate how little boomers actually care about their families beyond doing the bare minimum until the kids are 18 then all but booting them out the door.

Meanwhile there are some families where the lucky little shits inherit a house as soon as they turn 18 and get to save the 30-50% of income that everyone else has to pay on rent / mortgage. Fucking horseshit.

This.

Every other episode has a joke or a plot "call to action" where the Simpson's house has something wrong with it (because it's badly built) and they need money for the right trade worker. Plus, they have that station wagon with shriveled metal on the driver's side that they never fix. Then there are other episodes where Lisa wants a pony or a dress or some bullshit and Homer needs to work overtime or take a second job.

The Simpson's are not a middle class family. They live paycheck to paycheck.

>Should've gotten a trade instead of a useless psychology degree.

What are you even talking about? Homer didn't go to college before he started working for the power plant. He went to college for that one episode AFTER he got the job and the house, though.

Eh, I'm a skilled tradie with no college degree and can afford a shitty house in a mid sized Oregon town like where that's set. If my gf was raising kids then that would be a huge amount of the child care costs taken care of too. Also Homers dad gave him the down payment for that house. I'm more interested in a smaller single story like Hanks home though.
>>

My boomer dad sold our house back in 2006 and ended up clearing $108,000 after taxes and other shit. Of course the fuck spent almost all of it within 10 years and left his kids $0
>>
>>215555621
Yea and his dad was supposed to live there too, he did for a while. They made jokes of it, but reality is Abe would have had to live there and they couldn't afford the old folks home......but it's a cartoon.

There's actually a lot of jobs at nuclear power plants that don't require higher education. Homer worked in a position like that till he got a promotion. Then >>215555686 happened later.
